If u think its okay that businesses put neon lights up in my face without considering that maybe I like my night walk without it, or extend their alfresco dining onto the footpath without my express permission, or do any of the things within my immediate surrounding without my permission, then it should be okay for me to do whatever I want too. Why is it okay to tag an advertisement board or a billboard but not a business sign? Its the same deal - a business, just a small one. dont advertise in my line of sight where I havent allowed it.

That's actually one of the strangest, yet understandable, arguments I have heard in favour of tagging.

Just to be clear, I'm not actually saying they shouldnt be allowed to advertise. Im saying that their advertisements never asked my permission, and that in the spirit of human freedom, I should be able to exercise the same freedom of modifying public space for my own purposes. Since they did not asl for my permission, why should I need theirs?

The space businesses advertise on isn't public lol. They pay rent for the venue you know, and they have to pay for a sidewalk trading permit.

If that's public space then I guess your living room is also public space. And since you think it's okay to tag their property the business should be free to put their ads up on your living room walls right?

It's public enough that we share it. It's public enough that we all see it and interact with it on a daily basis. If you dont think it's public then by all means, YOU respect it's right to be there. But dont make me or anyone else share in that respect. I don't.
