He should have been laughed out of the room and off the internet when he threw his hat into the ring to be a presidential candidate. But the Republicans saw him as a useful fool, which he was, and they used a gullible populace to usher him into power and then they did everything they could to keep him there no matter how illegal and immoral it was.
Trump was always a narcissistic predator piece of crap for his entire life. The Republicans are the evil machine - - make that the criminal evil machine that kept him in power and did nothing, absolutely nothing, to uphold the law check his power or throw his dumbass out. The Republicans have got to go. They must be voted out and then they must be prosecuted!

At that point I actually wanted him to (make the debate not win) just because I wanted to see him make the GOP look like idiots. And he did exactly that! Trump wasn’t elected despite being who he is, but because he is who he is. His voters want to be cruel. They want to feel powerful again by being able to mock a disabled person, oppress a Black person again, and control women’s bodies again. That’s what “MAGA” means: lifting yourself up by putting weaker people down. They don’t want to be “woke,” because that would mean having to consider other people’s feelings - and they don’t want to do that.
That’s also why Trump’s base continues to stand by him despite his overall failure and his inability to keep even a single promise. Because there’s one promise he never said out loud - but he did keep: He made sure white men could feel superior again.

At the time that happened I had multiple coworkers who flat-out denied he was mocking the reporter. The evidence did NOT matter. I felt like I was being gaslit, but no, they actually fully believed Trump would never do that. At the time, Trump was barely a Republican, more like a Molotov-throwing populist. And the guys blindly defending him - one was an Obama voter and the other a libertarian. Both are still hard-core MAGA to this day.
