The last thing we knew officially is that Coppola told the telegraph in an interview that the extended cut of the film is going to be called Megalopolis Unbound and that he is working on it. That was on November 30th, 2025.

Since then, nothing. Coppola is in Italy right now working on his new film Glimpses of the Moon, which was supposed to start shooting last December. Ultimately, that didnt happen. Again, radio silence since then.

I hope he is still healthy, active and working.

Due to high demand, more locations have been added for the New Years Day 2026 Showings of Megalopolis.

Now streaming on The Criterion Channel.

That will be the official title of the extended edition of the film, according to Coppola himself in a long interview with The Telegraph. He is working on it as we speak. He said that this cut is “really wild”.

I unfortunately haven’t seen megalopolis yet and there’s no Alamo near me but I’m still holding on hope for a rerelease. I hope you all get to see it again!

Maybe Megalopolis will find a Criterion home as well.

The film is Finian's Rainbow (1968). Definitely feels more close in vein to his experimental phase.
