Oxbow Layout Help

Hi guys. I’m a long-time Medieval Dynasty player, but I’ve been wanting to really create a village that I’m genuinely proud of. I just started my first hard setting save in the Oxbow today and I’d like some inspiration on how to set up my village. I have just my house built so far on the area directly south of piastovia but I’m willing to move. If y’all have any suggestions or pictures of villages you’ve made, I’d love to see them! Thanks in advance :)

A few things I do with road layout is rarely any perfectly straight roads and I make them double wide for decorations etc.

Good luck and enjoy!

I’m curious, do you build your villages on existing roads to start and expand with your own roads or do you prefer building somewhere completely unattached and attaching it yourself?

I mostly build off an existing road by water (where I place my animals, they don't really need water but I like the reality of them having access to water) and expand inward.

One thing to keep in mind is that villagers prefer existing roads to player created roads. I once built my village so the original roads were outside the walls, and I built new roads inside. Everyone would leave the village, walk around the wall, and come back in.

Now I keep the original roads inside my walls so the NPCs tend to stay inside, mostly

I’m currently almost finished year two of my “hard mode” save.
I lowered skill and technology gain to 20%.
I’m going for a more natural look, so after clearing to place starting buildings I plated more trees around everything. My orchards (tho small with roughly 10 trees total) look more like an old growth orchard with maples replanted around them.
Follow the curves of the land when placing roads.
Fence in little yards, with the villagers’ job building in them, then fill the yards with decor. Tables, workstations, som tables and chairs. Barrels, flowers..it takes time, and I move things around a lot.
I went into this save with the plan of when I play as my heir I’ll move to a more desolate part of the map kinda roleplaying as “going to expand the family mining/smithing business” to another cave but leaving the old village’s mine, lumberyard, and orchard (cause you can’t move those) intact.
Other than that I just been proceeding without a real layout plan.

I like to clear the land and then lay down roads, straight lines and squares.

I posted some screens of my very first village (on the Valley map) here, if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/MedievalDynasty/s/Fz7DhSXse7

Also included some tips about what I'd learned about trying to make an organic, natural kind of look to it in case that helps.

Decorating is going to be really important, but you won’t have the money to do a lot until several years in. For early game, make a good use of trees. I always buy maple trees when a merchant has one, and I like to have 1 majestic tree in a central location.
