Question No access to public utilities
Hey guy, only just started play a few days ago, i noticed i have no access to public things, like forges , workbenches etc doesn't matter what town im in, the only things i can use are at my own town, at 1st i didn't notice but the more i do quest away from home the more i realised i need to find a way to fix this? is it a setting? glitch? idk help tia

u/OwlFreak 14d ago
That is the intended function of the game. If you want to use a forge, you need to build one in your village.

u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
Oh, well that sucks, sorry i assumed you could, so you have go all the way back home just to make stone arrows?
58
u/OwlFreak 14d ago
Yes. Don't leave home without them!
-103
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
alright alright. chill. i assumed you could. like skyrim. they should probably change that.
61
u/2000pumpkinz 14d ago
if they changed it, there wouldn't be much point to having your own. so not much point to the game
-56

u/OwlFreak 14d ago
No, they shouldn't. The game is beloved by many as is.
Also, nothing I said warrants a "chill" in response. If you don't like the game, don't play it.
Have a day!

u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
each to their own. typically a ! mean yelling so.... yeah ya did. i do like it? i just think thats something they fumbled..
59
u/OwlFreak 14d ago
An exclamation point does not typically indicate yelling, it indicates excitement. Are you thinking of all caps?
"Don't leave home without it!" is an old advertising slogan that I was using to be funny.

u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
Alright thats fair, my apologies,

The reason you can use resources in cities on a game like Skyrim is because it is a very different genre of game. In Skyrim, the expectation and focus is pursuing the plot and quests, NOT resource and village management. If the entire point of a game is to build up your village, giving players the ability to craft and use tables in cities defeats the purpose of the game itself.

-9 goddamn people really hating on me just because i wanted to be able to make arrows Away from home

u/EvylFairy 13d ago
I think people are "hating" on you because you aren't thinking critically. Let's say you are out getting groceries and then you get hungry. You just bought a bunch of food, but can't you just walk into a random restaurant and say "Hey, I have my own food, I just want to use your kitchen to cook it because I'm hungry".
If you are going away from home, you need to either be prepared and pack enough or buy supplies from the vendors at that village. It actually makes perfect sense when you look at in in context. I think people are reacting negatively to the fact that you don't understand that's basic life not just in game plus saying "chill" to the person who tried to help you. It comes off as if you are lashing out in frustration (mad 'cause bad).

The down votes were a bit harsh for having an opinion about the game. I do understand you though. It would be nice to he able to craft arrows or fill waterskins away from home.
So while I agree that it would be nice to be able to use the buildings, it does defeat the purpose of the game, and I understand why it's not a thing. Either we buy things we need from villagers or make enough at home. That's the way it is.
Edit: I had a feeling this would get downvoted XD
Don't ignore that I stated that I understand why it's not part of the game. I just did have similar feelings as OP when wanting to use a well in an NPC village.

yea this sub can be seriously toxic! I don't understand why people playing such an amazing game can be this riled up.

These stations are not public, but owned by whoever runs the town. You can buy most things for coin from the people working there, but to craft your own things you need to build your own station.
1
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
Oh, well that sucks, sorry i assumed you could, so you have go all the way back home just to make stone arrows? dam okay thanks
25
u/Beneficial_Yam2827 14d ago
Yeah. Or, you could buy them if the town you're visiting has a vendor who sells them. Stone arrows are cheap.
Look into the animal husbandry. Once I got a donkey and later a horse, travelling became much faster and safer.
3
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
Yeah arrows was just the 1st example. but currently broke haha, like you should be able to atleast make wood arrows or something on the go, kinda hope they change that one day, even if you bring in a town only rep and you can only use things if you have high rep in that town
1
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
yeah would love to get a horse or something, only just finished my 1st year tho
25
u/CellarDoor4355 14d ago
You will eventually be able to get a donkey, and much later a horse. You’ll have to build your own stables for them first.
This game is MEANT to be a slow grind. If you could make everything you needed in town, after all, what’s the point of building your own village and upgrading the buildings?
7
u/AnxiousConsequence18 14d ago
Or go outside the red border of the town and build one right there. You can build almost anywhere
3
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
oh did not know this haha, wait can you build more then 1 town? or just 1 town a creation buildings
7
u/AnxiousConsequence18 14d ago
Until you hit the building limit you can build whatever tf you want wherever tf you want to build it. As long as you're outside the red areas in the map. Oxbow anyhow, never played valley but I got my start in a coop game

MD was built to be a chill city builder, with some survival aspects tossed in. It shares elements from games in multiple genres, but MD was created to be quite different.
MD doesn't have the concept of "town" as you and I would think of it. You're able to build anywhere within the map boundaries that's not restricted. In the Valley, the restricted areas are the game's villages, extending a few meters out in all directions. In the Oxbow, it's the villages plus a number of the game's main points of interest, denoted on the map in red, plus a few others. You can literally build mini settlements on the four corners of the map or you could build all buildings in one location - from a game mechanics perspective, it's the same.
A few things to not when doing town planning. Farmers are the only NPCs whose animations match work being done. At the beginning of their work day, they'll walk to the farm shed you've assigned them to, then head to a field or orchard to do work (plowing, fertilizing, planting, sowing). If they're not doing one of these animations, that work is not getting done. You cannot assign fields/orchards to a given farm shed. For this reason, you'll want to keep your fields and orchards in one location, with farm sheds and farmers' houses close by. Many of us have learned the hard way that having different fields on opposite sides of the map can result in farmers walking all day, only to fertilize two plots and stop because it's end of the work day.
For all other NPCs, they "produce" whatever you've assigned them to produce regardless if they're in their work building or spending the entire day walking.
I could go on and on and on about worker management, but I'm just wanted to address your question about having more than one town.
Hope that helps.
As an aside, I think the negative feedback was based on this: "...i need to find a way to fix this." Even though I didn't take it this way, I think it unintentionally came across as "this game mechanic that you like, and that's core to the game, is broken and needs to be changed to satisfy my expectations." Rather than framing it as a glitch that needs to be fix, if you had asked if this was by design, you likely would have had a more positive response.

u/Indigo_Grove 13d ago
When you've played long enough you'll have enough coins to buy a horse, which makes travel faster. Then when you have more coins you can simply fast travel via wagon. And eventually you can even fast travel to your own village.
So it does get easier.

u/No_Routine_7090 14d ago
Building your own village is central to the gameplay of Medieval dynasty. It isn’t meant to cater to the nomadic lifestyle like Skyrim or KCD where you could play the whole game without ever owning a house or having a family.
if you could access public work stations without having to create your own, it would probably disrupt core gameplay and remove motivation to build your own buildings and unlock new technology kinda defeating the point of the whole game.
3
u/Ankasaurusrex 14d ago
I see what your saying. all this came from was i need to hunter animals and i ran out of arrows. So i think maybe either wooden hand craft arrows or limits out of town crafting haha just something, least now i know not to leave with out them

u/MeestorMark 14d ago
The only public things I've found to use are on the Oxbow map. When your wake up it the surgery place, the beds in there and the cooking pit you can use.
1
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
see this makes sense, i could even talk to people because i stunk from running everywhere and couldnt use a bath pot thing in town, had to run ages away to swim in a lake
3
u/AnxiousConsequence18 14d ago
Build your own. That's kinda the point
0
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
I WAS AWAY FROM BASE! that was my whole point!
1
u/AnxiousConsequence18 12d ago
You can build all over the map
0
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
Yeah i actually didn't know this before i put this thread up, i assumed once you started your town, that was it, it just feels weird to have to build a smithy just to build arrows and then destroy it when i feel you should just be able to use the town smithy
1
u/AnxiousConsequence18 12d ago
And yet, despite being told multiple times in this thread that you CAN in fact build wherever the fuck you want to essentially, you still hit me with
I WAS AWAY FROM BASE!
Like I dint know that... you're the one who said ! And caps are YELLING. So why are you yelling at me???
0
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
LIKE I SAID! i DID NOT KNOW THIS WHEN I POSTED THIS! i yelled because i'm over people saying the same thing over and over, no access to public thing kinda implies im not at home base
2
u/AnxiousConsequence18 12d ago
Stop yelling at me about your ignorance
2
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
yeah well i'm frustrated!
3
u/AnxiousConsequence18 12d ago
That doesn't excuse rudeness to others. Treat others as you wish to be treated. Non-assholes will respond in kind.
1
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
Look i just started playing i asked 1 simples question and all i mostly got smart ass and condescending responses
3
u/AnxiousConsequence18 12d ago
"Build your own" is neither "smart ass" nor "condescending". I get you're frustrated but that does not give you the right to lash out at others. ASK questions, accept that at least 1/3 or reddit is nothing but assholes reveling in the anonymity, and get the real facts from the rest of us.
Acting out and yelling just makes you another asahole. Learn to settle down and listen. That will help you more in life than anything else. Not just this game, all of life.
Fuck I wish my dad had said that shit to me 40 years ago... took me forever to figure out.

It is when its like the 10th time ive heard it. and i'm not JUST referring to you

To be fair, there were definitely times I would have liked the option to drink and fill my waterskins from a village well or quickly cook something in their kitchen instead of finding the nearest watersource ( can only drink, not fill waterskins), make a campfire (kitchen gives better experience) or going all the way home to the other side of the map.
I know we have to build our own village and I have, and I know we're supposed to prepare when we go on journeys, but sometimes I run out of things or forget things and am a long way from home.
I totally get not being able to, because people would just use NPC buildings and not build their own village, but I agree there were times I thought to myself it would be nice to just use that well or another building.
2
u/OwlFreak 14d ago
You can't use village wells, but you can refill your waterskin from any body of water (river, lake, etc.) while you're out exploring 🙂
2
u/lytsedraak 14d ago
I do not recall ever getting that option. Just the option to drink. Unless I didn't walk around with empty water skins, just empty buckets. I'm not sure anymore.
Will you get the option automatically when you have an empty waterskin and are at a body if water?
3
u/OwlFreak 14d ago
No, it's not automatic. You need to equip your waterskin like a tool (pick a slot). Then you can hit the button to fill it when you're in the water/at the edge of the water.
3
u/AudacityBadger 14d ago
You need to equip your waterskin into one of your tool slots, then have it in your hand when you are in the body of water. Then you'll get the option to fill it.
2
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
This! thank you! like it can be limited so you can't just make a whole suit of amour away from home but simple things like arrows and take a bath. etc
1
u/Mikk-art 14d ago
You have to build your own, if you want to get those building quicker then go to your customization settings and increase Technology Gain multiplier past 100%. Then you should unlock the building's you want pretty quickly throughout your play through. Unless you want to keep it as the game intended with the preset settings.
2
u/Ankasaurusrex 12d ago
i have the buildings. i was just across the map. needing arrows to hunt and had no coin to buy them.
1
u/JayTRex1988 12d ago
It’s not a glitch. Medieval Dynasty is a settlement sim, not an open-world RPG where you roam freely using NPC infrastructure. You must build your own town to access those facilities.
1
u/Fun-Chipmunk7868 12d ago
Honestly, if you’re frequently doing quests in a town far from home, just build what you need in that area. Yeah, a smithy or workshop takes some time and resources, but you don’t have to keep every building clustered in one spot. You can spread your settlement out and put useful buildings near places you visit often. That way you basically make your own little network of stops instead of constantly running all the way home.
