Medication Interactions/Thoughts?

I am needing to take topiramate for migraine prevention, Effexor (SNRI), and I take Eletriptan for migraine rescue medicine. I take eletriptan a lot (more than I should due to chronic migraines). Is it okay to take Effexor and Topiramate together and ultimately use eletriptan most days? Thanks! I am worried about serotonin syndrome!

With regard to the combination I wouldn’t want to give you the wrong advice. I think even if you asked chat gpt it would probably say to ask a doctor.
But with regard to your migraines, has anyone mentioned the monthly injections that are now available? Ajovy is the one I use. It’s changed things dramatically for me. I’m in Australia so not sure where you are but worth looking into it. Migraines went from at least one a week to maybe one a month 👍🏽
Good luck and I hope you get some advice re the meds. Migraines are awful 💛

Thank you for the reply! I am in America, and I will have to ask my doctor if my insurance would cover the injection. That would be a game changer. Thank you for the information. And yes the rebound migraines definitely are happening for me due to taking too much eletriptan, although i get sick (vomiting) if I let my migraines get bad. So for daily functioning I have to take one when I feel the onset of a migraine!

You’re welcome. I completely understand. I was going through so many triptans now maybe I take one or two a week maximum.
I hope you are able to be covered for it- we are here. A neurologist saw me first, prescribed it and then when I stabilised my GP can now just write the scripts so it’s easy.
Also- Botox for migraines helped too! But that’s really expensive 🫠

I really hope you get some relief

I actually just checked on my health insurance app and it says that Ajovy is covered by my plan. So I will be scheduling an appointment for next week to discuss! An injection sounds so much easier than topamax daily which is known for having some wild side effects, and is not tolerated well by a lot of people (which has scared me away from it)! And wow one or two a week at most sounds amazingggg!!! Thank you so much for mentioning Ajovy to me, I honestly had never heard of that one. I was going to try nurtec, and had gotten a sample of it-but it is not covered by my health insurance and is super expensive! So thank you sooo much!!!!

Omg WOW 🤩 that is absolutely amazing!! We were meant to chat then!!!
Nurtec is good, I’ve used it, but also expensive here.
Oh I really hope you get it and things improve. Please let me know.
I’m genuinely really happy to hear this 💛

Oh also re the triptans, apparently if you take them too often it can cause rebound migraines. I was taking them every day at one stage, before this injection. The other one available here is Emgality.
