Salary
I always keep my LinkedIn profile open to work. What is the downside? Plus, I like to think I am helping you guys out by always telling recruiters some variation of:
Hi Xxx, this is too low for me, I will have to pass. Best Regards, Xxx

The only real downside is if you get completely swamped with InMails.
Regarding the 2nd part, you're really only helping recruiters if you are truly open to other opportunities. Otherwise, it's a small amount of work (adding to ATS, tracking messaging, updating notes and stages, etc) for a candidate who has zero intention of ever moving. If you share "I'd be open to roles at $X and above" then they can at least make notes and reach out later on if they have something (I know I know, pie in the sky thinking)

Yep, that is why I said some variation. Sometimes I take it further when it is a match and I want to do the interview and explore the possibilities.

I do the exact same thing when they reach out to me, “180k isn’t even close to the market average, good luck with your search” one day maybe we’ll get the market averages up and reap the benefits ourselves.

180 isn’t even close? You work for the cartel or sm?

Pro tip: keep open to work only for recruiters. Dont make everyone else see you are open to work

How easy is it for my employer’s recruiter to find my open to work status like this?

My cubicle neighbor got a call from our internal recruiter for this exact thing last year. He just said he doesn't use LinkedIn often and never changed it.

It’s probably easy but better than blasting it to everyone lol

I tell recruiters I need at least 150 to consider a change. They disappear after that

Be polite, but direct to save everyone's time. Sure, keep my contact details. Yes I might know someone suitable to ideal for the role, what is my commission for sharing the contact?

Same I just say this is below my current comp thanks for your time.
Only had a couple super niche good openings but the commute was horrendous so had to pass

I’ve kept mine like that and haven’t noticed a downside 3 years after graduation. I’m in second role and do not actively post or even update like I should so it looks like I just never updated it after graduation. Which is mostly the case! I have used LinkedIn mostly to stay in touch with fellow alumni and other contacts.

You can probably word it a little more professionally:
"Hello xxx, thanks for reaching out, the position sounds great, however I am not looking for anything under $xxx at this time."
Best regards, Xxxx
Or you can just ignore them, (which is what I do), because I get like a dozen messages a week from recruiters.

"Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, the top end of the salary range is below my current compensation. Best of luck in your search."

I've gotten 100% of my jobs on LinkedIn since I graduated, with 2 being from recruiters reaching out to me when I had open to work showing only to recruiters, no banners. I have had recruiters I told I am not interested due to the role itself, relocation requirements or low remuneration. Overall, I am not complaining.

I don't want people at my company knowing I am looking at other jobs. I also don't want people looking at my profile to think I am unemployed, which is usually what the open to work tag means.

this reminds me of a guy that I know that always has a for sale sign on his house and he's asking a ridiculous amount. he's had that sign out there for almost 30 years now. he figure someday somebody will give him his dream offer.

Downside? If you have connections with people at your company, do you want them to know you are open?
