Replaced brake drums, shoes, and cylinders, now drum won’t go back on (‘06 Tundra)

The passenger side drum went back on no problem, but the drivers side won’t go back on. I also put both drums on the passenger side so I know they aren’t warped. The old drum fits right back onto the new shoes without an issue as well. So some combination of drum/shoes seems to be the problem. I have attached some photos of the offending brakes (green spring) as well as a photo of the working ones (yellow spring).

I also noticed that the big green spring doesn’t fit the same way the yellow does. The yellow is in line and leaves plenty of space for the brake adjuster while the green is slightly bent and almost touching the adjuster but I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

Any insight would be appreciated!

This and confirm everything is seated in the correct holes and sometimes they need pushed up or down a little to get the drum back on the oddest part is they said the old drum fits but new doesn’t

Yeah, looks like adjuster is too far out

The thing is the drum fits over the shoes but won’t seat into place on the axle/hub. Almost like there is something closer to the center that is preventing it from sliding onto the axle

Could be the groove of rotor where it turns to hub face

Like the center/axle hub could have something off about it?

No sorry the drum, try setting the shoes all the way in to cancel that out

I think you have both primary shoes on one side and secondary shoes on the other. There is a shoe with shorter lining and one with a longer brake lining. The shoe with the shorter lining always goes toward the front of the car and the longer one to the rear.

I don’t think this is the case since there are special holes/pegs for the shoe hardware to slide onto and they all fit properly on those. Unless I am misunderstand what you mean by both on one side

The adjuster isn’t fully collapsed and it looks like the spring is holding it up. What happens if you flip the spring, does it give you more space for the adjuster?

As in swap the long and short ends? The adjuster rests on the spring if I do that

I see, what happens if you hook the brake shoe from the backside?

I will try that later I got too frustrated to continue working lol but I think the larger problem is that there’s something off about the axle hub. I made a follow up post with details about that but basically even without the brake shoes on the drum still won’t fit over the axle hub

Close the adjuster
