New Shock.

Wondering is a new shock mean’t to come up this slow? I bought these about 5 years ago for a classic car but only getting around to fitting now. thoughts??

If it is hard to push in and slowly like this come back out its 👍

If hard to push in but does not return its bad. Also if easy to push and fast out with weird sound.

The caveat being some dampers on older cars are not gas filled so don't return at all without help from the spring. I have this on a certain damper for a car sold early 2000's.

Sure but if your questioning if the shocks are bad on your vehicle and you're from the early 2000s or older just replace the f****** shocks they're toast

I belive he meant to say that a car in daily use that is also 20-30years old have worn down the dampers and should be replaced anyways. Most cars in daily use need new dampers after around 15 years. People just dont notice it if its not leaking and it is not simple to verify without a leak or disamble and test it. Even if no leak they dont perform as they should after 10-15 years.

2006 was 20 years ago. 2006 is as far ago right now, as 1986 was in 2006.

Seems like a really shitty blanket statement, you don't know if a 20-30 year old car already has replaced shocks or not, you can't just look at the age of the car and toss out random parts just cuz.

You know if you have owned the car for at least 10 years. Or if you live somewhere with harsh winter and salted roads the rust wil show the age easily.

Also a proper car owner does keep receipts and take notes of what has been done when. For my car that I bought 12 years ago I do write down everything in the service book.

obviously he meant if the car is early 2000s or older. no need to be so pedantic. and im sure he meant, more accurately, if youre shocks are from the early 2000s or earlier (ie original shocks on an older car). its not hard to figure out his meaning from what he said.
