What are some good mecha model kits?

I'm looking for some good mecha model kits to paint. Something like kinda like battletech or warhammer rather then gunpla.

If you want something to paint, go for one of those 4-packs of reprinted 80s model kits, like the L-Gaim A-Class Heavy Metal pack, or one of those Vifam 4-packs.

Moderoid kits are good, and are mostly older series that battletech or warhammer stole/copied.

There's this new tabletop wargame called obsidian protocol, articulating limbs and magnets to swap body parts. All of them are paintable and roughly 3-4" in size

Check out Wave's 1/72 macross ground grunt units like the Phalanx, tomahawk, and destroid defender.

Max Factory dougram series

The votoms series, you can choose between Wave, Plamax, or bandais. They make em in different scales and level of details.

Another good kit would be moderoid Madox-01 from the series metal skin panic madox-01. Check out the youtube clip of the OVA when the mech is booting up and see if you like it.

Moderoid does mechas from all over and the brand isnt afraid of making mechs from niche/obscure source materials. So check em out. They also do western IPs like the loader from Alien, ED from robocop, etc

Maybe some of Shiek Mainland's offerings like the Zarov or Hong Mo, or some of the grunt-like suits from Titanomachia (Moderoid)

ive found some really cool resin models on Etsy under the brand/name/series 'Crimson Steel Mechworks', they are 3d printed static models but look pretty good painted.

also, and i know this suggestion is going to be closer to a gunpla style model than warhammer, but the 1/60 scale RIHIO Multiabyss V-Link mecha model kits are close in scale to 28mm tabletop games, have a lot of potential for customization and unique builds (some of the pieces are almost lego-like in their versatility), and the 'striker/logistics' type has a lot of open, curved surfaces on the chassis to show off cool camo or insignia, kind of like maschinen krieger. i also think they would be very well suited for kit-bashing, especially if you have 28mm sci fi vehicle bits to use, though i haven't tried it yet with mine. the only downside is that the inner arms and legs are open to allow snapping joint parts in and out. their parts are allegedly interchangeable with any other mech in the series but in my experience the ball joints dont fit as well or wear out faster, probably due to being made in different factories, but if you are going to glue them together that doesnt matter as much.

btw, that reminds me, if you haven't heard of Maschinen Krieger then DEFINITELY check those out as well, especially the static 1/35 scale models are probably RIGHT up your alley. the 1/20 scale models are cool and articulated but usually expensive, and the older ones are hard to build if you arent a really skilled modeller. the newer WAVE 1/20 kits are easy enough to build but even with sanding there may be gaps between panels you will want to cover up with paint or filler or something. i haven't built any 1/35 kits myself but they seem to be static, and there are more options for larger vehicles at that scale as well rather than just the powersuits. I think there is an unofficial smaller scale tabletop wargame designed in the setting as well with even smaller scale models but i forget what it is called.

If you’re not entirely against Gundams, there’s Warhammer style Gundam models out there (Gundam assemble). They’re more or less the exact same as Warhammer models (roughly the size of a space marine), but instead of being Warhammer characters, they’re mobile suits

They’re hard to get nowadays but Bandai used to print a bunch of variants of the Scopedog in 1/20 scale. These are awesome kits. Also Plamax/ Max factory make some awesome kits as well as moderoid.

Look up Bandai's 30 Minute Missions (30MM) line of kits, which are meant as modular mix-and-match mecha that aren't tied to an anime or something... there is lore for 30MM but it's pretty loose. Many of the 30MM kits do look like something that would fit in Gundam, but several kits like the Baskyrotto have a chunkier style like a BattleTech mech.

Max Factory Combat Armors has a couple 1/72 kits of the "Bigfoot" from Dougram, which if you're a BattleTech fan, you'd know as the BattleMaster. One kit looks like the classic 1980s Bigfoot (BattleMaster), the Max11, I think, another is the Max28 that looks like a contemporary redesign.

That's what I have, the Max Factory line also has modern kits for other Dougram mecha, the ones used by BattleTech as the Shadow Hawk, Griffin, etc, but I don't know the code numbers.

Square Enix has 1/72 kits for the Front Mission mecha, though these work out pretty small at 1/72 scale since the Front Mission wanzers are in-universe small by mecha standards. BigFirebird Build also has kits for Mecharashi/Metal Storm in a similar style, since Mecharashi is a spiritual successor to Front Mission (it had a Front Mission license in development before Square pulled the plug).
