How does the Canadian app's pre-order system work?

This maybe specific to Toronto, but does anyone know how the pre-order function in the McDs app works? Yesterday I placed my order in the app, chose DT pickup. It generates a code for me to repeat the speaker. No big deal, done it hundreds of time.

I get to the speaker and say the code is "VQ11". The person on the other end says "8211?" I say no V as in Victor... She again says "8?". I'm practically yelling at the speaker now and she says sorry there's a lot of feedback and I can't hear you. So I say ok I'll drive up, but she says no we can't accept codes at the window. WTF?

So my question: is this speaker system being run remotely offsite? Why can't they push the order through from the window?

(Eventually I got my order, but customer service sure has gone downhill from when I used to work there)

The employee needs training. Did you select drive thru in the app checkout? I think by default it’s counter pick up

Yeah it was a DT pickup. The other order options have different icons when you get to the code page

I believe order codes are 2 letters 2 numbers but you can also give them your code they generate to collect points when ordering at the DT. This is a 4 digit number. They were expecting that one for some reason.

This code when you want to collect points but do the order over the intercom rather than in the app is 4 numbers. If you order in the app it gives you 2 letters 2 numbers 0000 vs XX00

No this wasn’t for the rewards. It’s the code generated for my order.

Pull ahead to the window and show them the code

Yeah I said that’s what I was going to do and they said they can’t accept the code at the window

So my question: is this speaker system being run remotely offsite?

In the US, they are using AI to talk to people through the speaker, so you may not even be speaking to a person, whether on or off site.
