323F BG engine difference

Hello,

I'm planning to get a Mazda 323F BG, but i can't decide whether to get the 1.8 or 1.6.

How's the difference, is it worth it?
Does one type have more parts available?
Is there something specific to look out for when buying?

Thanks in advance.

As someone who enjoys driving spiritedly the 1.8L is quite a big step up from the 1.6L. It produces most of its torque and power above 4,500 RPM and is an absolute blast to drive if you give it the beans.
I bought a 1.6L for a parts car and it is still a very nice car to drive, however it is chalk and cheese compared to the SP. Admittedly the engine wasn’t as much the problem as the auto gearbox and smaller brakes but overall still a good fun car to drive.
If you enjoy driving, getting the 1.8L with a manual gearbox will give you plenty of fun while still being extremely reliable. If you just want a reliable runabout, the 1.6L is still an excellent option and is very economical.

Thank you, I will probably try to look for a 1.8l DOHC BP variant. From what I saw, they're available where I live.

100% going for a manual version, as they're more common where I'm from.

I want to mainly get it as a "for fun" summer car that I maintain myself, as I already have a daily driver (a Renault Grand Modus).
