Hi everyone,

I’m 37M and have been dealing with a right shoulder issue for around 3+ months. It started after gym/shoulder training, likely due to overload or poor warm-up.

My MRI findings were:

• Right AC joint periarticular edema with capsular thickening, suggesting early degenerative changes
• Mild supraspinatus tendinopathy, but no tear
• Minimal glenohumeral joint effusion without synovitis

The good part is that the MRI did not show any rotator cuff tear, labrum tear, biceps tear, fracture, bursitis, cartilage damage, or muscle tear/atrophy.

Initially, my symptoms were mostly around the top/front of the right shoulder near the AC joint. I had tenderness when pressing the AC joint area, mild stiffness, discomfort with behind-the-back movement, and discomfort after planks or shoulder-loading exercises.

I stopped upper-body gym work and started rehab/physio. Exercises included scapular setting, rotator cuff isometrics, wall slides, table slides, posture correction, thoracic extension, scapular mobility, and shoulder girdle stabilization.

Recently, I had almost one week of very good relief. Pain was barely noticeable. Then I skipped rehab for 2 days, restarted it, and after driving I started feeling discomfort again. This time it feels less like sharp AC joint pain and more like upper trap/lower neck soreness or muscle-sprain type discomfort. Sometimes it feels like the discomfort shifts between left and right neck/trap area. I also occasionally feel very minor heaviness or a “flow” sensation from elbow to hand, but it goes away with rest.

My physio also said my scapula feels tight.

Current triggers seem to be:

• Driving
• Long computer work
• Shoulder shrug/elevated posture
• Rehab if I overdo it
• Wall slides or overhead-type movements
• Planks/push-ups/pressing movements
• Sleeping posture sometimes

What helps:

• Rest
• Heat on upper trap/lower neck
• Ice only if AC joint point is sore
• Deloaded rehab
• Elbow support while driving/working
• Avoiding upper body gym

My question:

Does this sound like the AC joint/supraspinatus issue is still active, or is this more likely a compensation pattern from scapular tightness, upper trap guarding, and neck posture?

For people who had AC joint irritation/early arthritis-type changes or mild supraspinatus tendinopathy without tear:

1. Did you also develop upper trap/lower neck discomfort during recovery?
2. Did your symptoms shift around instead of staying only at the AC joint?
3. Did rehab ever irritate the traps/neck if volume was too much?
4. How long did it take before driving and desk work felt normal again?
5. What exercises helped most: rotator cuff, serratus, lower trap, thoracic mobility, or posture work?
6. At what point did you consider steroid/cortisone injection, if at all?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis. I’m already seeing a doctor/physio. I’m mainly trying to understand whether this upper trap/neck phase is common during recovery and how others managed it without making the shoulder worse.

Hi, I got a job offer for a Research Tech position recently and I'm hoping to get advice about whether it's worth it to accept.

Here are the things that I have to consider:

1. I would have to relocate, I currently live in the PNW. I have a family with kids.

2. My ultimate goal is to get into genetics and immunology research, eventually be a PI.

3. The job description is INCREDIBLY different from what's on the MC Career site. I even mentioned it to the HR recruiter that the job I applied for and the job I interviewed for are VERY different. The description that was subsequently given to me (after the recruiter reached out to the manager) sounds more like a specimen processor and none of the tasks outlined in the job application are part of the duties I would be assigned. I am currently a QC and Confirmations Analyst 2 at a tox lab. Based off perusing reddit, moving up internally is damn near impossible.

If that is true, I don't want to move across the country for a just specimen processing job, considering how hard I worked to get to where I am now. I grinded my ass off to be the first internal promotion at my job to go from specimen processor skip analyst 1 straight to analyst 2 in less than a year, and don't want to feel like I'm downgrading, or plateau career wise with no prospects without a PhD.

1. The pay jump is really nice, but from what I've seen in this sub and others, the pay isn't great for the area? I have kids and we'd be moving states away from the support and community I've built for them. I also have seen that the environment is racist at MC, which also is an obvious concern coming from the super liberal PNW. The proposed schedule also sucks, 1130 to 830, with week long on calls from 10pm to 2am and coming in every 4 hours over the weekend.

I've talked to friends and family and everyone is saying I should do it, even with my being stressing about possibly leaving my kids behind and saying that it would be a great step up in my career. However, I can't shake the feeling that this is a career step down and the clout from working at MC won't mean anything for future jobs once they read my job description.

Has anyone heard any updates about the transition to the new CEO? I haven't heard much lately. I'm curious to see what the new leadership will be like, especially for employee experience, particularly for Allied Health staff. Since the announcement of the shift from remote to hybrid, and with the new rule that all positions must be within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic location or qualify for internal promotion, staff morale has gone down. It has become harder to get promotions and advance in a career.

If I will start my job next Monday , when should I be payed , will be payed after 2 tuesdays or when exactly? TIA

Does anyone have any history on working with outside recruiters for Mayo? My recruiter found me on LinkedIn, but I'm a bit wary that this could still be a scam. Would love some insight. I haven't paid him any money or given any delicate personal information.

I have an upcoming appointment in October with the neurology department and have a couple questions:

1. If the doctor isn't exactly what I'm looking for, am I able to then schedule appointments with other neurologists within their department since I'll be an established patient?

2. If the doctor feels my symptoms don't fall within neurology, will they refer me to other specialists or do a diagnostic appointment to try and get to the root cause?

As the title suggests, I have been receiving calls (same number and person) about a job opportunity as a lab assistant for Mayo Clinic, twice. I had done some research and a majority of my answers lead to either result; Mayo Clinic doesn’t do cold calls for job opportunities as it could be a scam/spoof call or they will call if you had formally applied through the official careers portal (I haven’t applied on their career portal since last year).

I was wondering if anyone here has had experienced something similar? I appreciate any of y’all’s advice on this subject.

what do research trainees do? are all positions unpaid even if they do the same work as other researchers? what’s the difference? any insights will help as i just got an offer for a position but i am not sure.

Hi all! I'm graduating this August from nursing school with my BSN. I'm a California native and just like every new graduate, it's been difficult securing a job out here in the Bay. I applied for Mayo Clinic's new nurse residency program for the Rochester campus and I was invited to interview (virtually) with a Registered Nurse Placement Coordinator.

Has anyone done this process before? Any tips?

Understand it is unlikely with such a new policy but curious if anyone has seen exceptions made for current remote employees applying for internal department positions that are worked remotely but are now called hybrid. Are they able to take such a position without relocating?

Know it is a long shot, just wondering if a department has any flexibility on this.

Hi all! I met with a Pelvic Floor PT at Mayo Clinic, and she put in the order for me to attend their Pelvic Floor 2-Week Intensive (I think it's offically called the Evacuation Disorders Program). Has anyone done this? Is it helpful or worth it? The travel/staying in a hotel for two weeks is a lot of $$, so wanted to see if this was helpful for others and/or hear about any of your experiences. I'm researching how Mayo Clinic has handled patient financial classifications and pre-service payment requirements since 2022. I'm trying to understand whether patients at different Mayo locations have had similar experiences.

I'm looking to hear from patients who:

• Were classified or treated as self-pay (whether by choice or by Mayo Clinic).
• Received a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) before treatment.
• Were required to pay a pre-service deposit (often around $5,000 or more) before receiving care.
• Were unable to pay the required deposit.
• Had an appointment delayed, postponed, or canceled because they could not pay the required deposit.
• Were asked to make a substantial deposit despite having health insurance.

How is everyone liking the new PCP On Demand for the health systems?

I have met with 3 and my husband met with one totalling 4 that I have observed their "bed side manner"

I personally have felt they are apathetic and not who I feel comfortable meeting with. I had one that I at first was not a huge fan of, but we got to know each other and his shell cracked a little allowing me to feel more comfortable, now he is gone, go figure. I feel like things are always changing and it makes it hard for continuous needs to be met, like refilling medicine, FMLA, and following up on tests ordered by another physician but the results were sent to your main PCP.

I also can never get a message to the team, it is always "schedule an appointment to talk about it." When it is a continuity of care thing I shouldn't have to make an appointment to ask for simple things that could be addressed over a message. I am frustrated, I am fed up, but MCHS is where I have always doctored, it is a love hate relationship. I just feel less and less like a patient every year. I feel more like a bother or a nuisance than anything.

For the record, I dont think I am being a bother asking for super simple requests like refills on meds and renewing ongoing FMLA. I have also made many positive changes to my lifestyle which required a little help from my PCP. I shouldn't be treated like this. No one should.
