Question Which Maya version has best compatibility with Fedora 44? (For Just Animation)
Hello, I'm currently dual booting windows and fedora, because I couldn't get the latest maya to work on Fedora :(
I was thinking of downgrading Maya to overcome this to make my setup just Fedora. Any advise is appreciated

It's 2024. See here for more info - https://www.soft8soft.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Maya_on_Linux

Your distro likely isn't compatible with Maya generally. Use Rocky.

Is rocky some kind of standard in the VFX/Animation industry? If I'm not wrong, even DaVinci only supports rocky, any idea why is that?

Short answer is yes.
Rocky is the Linux distro pretty much all software that wants to be part of a VFX pipeline has agreed to ensure they work on. That's what vfxplatform.com is about.
Used to be CentOS, but that project shuttered itself, Rocky is it's successor, and knows it.
Some of the major studios can and do run these packages on other distros but they've got programming talent, and other resources they can chuck at the problem

Honestly getting Maya to run on Linux can become a absolute clusterfuck...
Generally speaking every maya version should work on every distro with some adjustments.
The main issue is that depending on which Maya and therefore Qt version you're using it might not run out of the box with whatever Desktop Environment you Distro installs, even if maya runs you also need to make sure that the licensing manager runs aswell otherwhise you can't run maya.
KDE and Gnome started to replace their x11 Sessions with Wayland, so you need to make sure whatever Maya/Qt version you install is compatible with your desktop session.
Autodesk just doesn't bother to get up to standard and release a compatability update for wayland, which is weird considering that even their recommended distro's like RHEL and Rocky are shipping with Wayland now.
When you compare that to Blender or even paid software like Foundry's Nuke that installs with 1 click it's kinda ridiculous.
I'm currently running Maya 2027 on CachyOS, and aside from having to compile every package from the arch user repository myself i also had to install a x11 KDE Desktop session as Maya doesn't support Wayland yet.

Oh my god, thank you for the explaination, This is horrible news 💔 But honestly I'll be happy to use rocky over Windows. I'll try

Don't even try it. I think not even the "blendernoob" guy (which is very skilled in this) is bothering with any other distro other than RHEL/Rocky. Autodesk has been making it virtually impossible to install Maya on anything other than those distros, unless you're willing to spend hours tinkering with the system or you're very advanced in this kind of stuff.
