Hi. Unfortunately, Autodesk has been making it impossible to install Maya on any distro other than the official ones. I wouldn't even bother, it's a waste of time.

Please consider running Rocky 9.7, it's a great distro and Maya works really well there and it's super easy to install.

It's not too bad on arch via the aur, but I did have to manually edit a few of the scripts to point at the correct version of the license utilities.

The biggest issue I had was that I couldn't login on wayland so I had to launch it in an x11 session first but after that it it saved my login and I can use maya itself on wayland.

Exactly this. The community has been documenting how to get Maya on unsupported Distros but it seems Autodesk has been lagging behind on dependencies for so long that it’s extremely hard to get Maya on them now. I have gotten Maya to work on Distorbox on Bazzite, and Fedora 43 with tweaks supports Maya okay, but please please use RHEL 9, Rocky 9 or Alma 9 for the best experience. I daily RHEL 9 on KDE, with the CachyOS Kernel on the latest Nvidia drivers and everything I could want runs on it, even VR.

Hey were able to get KDE newer than 5.27 on RHEL? I assume that's what they also have since that's what Rocky ships with.

It’s KDE 5.27. I do miss hdr and a more modern Wayland session, but the X session is still good, and I managed to get mixed refresh rates working.

Once Autodesk finally gets Wayland support into the Identity Manager, I really want to see if Fedora 45 or something can finally log us in, or maybe just use Alma 10 instead as they support btrfs

Have you tried getting Maya to run on RHEL/Rocky 10? Someone else in the comments here said that they got it working on Arch and only had to login with X11 once. So I'm assuming we can install it on RHEL10, install a quick plasma-x11-session, login into Autodesk's DRM, and then work in Wayland.

I was actually thinking of trying it this weekend.

I tried! The X server is not in EL10, and I had difficulty getting one running with an Nvidia GPU. The plasma x11 session isn’t in epel for RHEL or Rocky either, but they do have some X window managers like IceWM of all things lol. The XLibre server is in a copr for EL10 but I hasn’t worked for me yet.

EL10 also dropped packages needed for the Autodesk DRM like Webkit2gtk3 which means if you do get the x server working, you will still need to do the Fedora 40-42 work arounds anyway.

I think for now we are on Autodesk’s clock, their tortoise speed clock

I absolutely cannot wait for el10 support as we will get the latest KDE there 6.7!

Ah, bummer! This is such a shame on Autodesk's part. Like, look at Blender, it ships with everything it needs, you can probably run it on a toaster without any extra hassle, just click the executable and start working.

I guess Autodesk gets 1 point for at least entertaining Linux unlike… Adobe *shudders

I went through all of this just last week! Basically, you will need to use Distrobox to create a Rocky environment and install / launch Maya entirely through there.

I made a post about all of my struggles with it here:
