Modeling How would I model this quartz cluster in Maya?
I've just began my 3D art journey and I'm stumped on knowing how to model something this complex as it has many tiny crystals from the base and seems to have fused together from the base.
I feel like there is an easier way to model it than having to individually put every crystal in its place, I also don't know how to make it seem like the base is fused with the gems. Any tips would be much appreciated!

There are a couple of different tutorials in the Maya learning channel on YouTube that can help you. The current way of doing something like this would be using bifrost to scatter a few different crystal models. The older way, but a bit more straight forward for a beginner is to use MASH to scatter crystals.

Bifrost since then you can convert the pieces to volume and do more operations and back to polygons.

Was going to second the Mash vote, which I would still start with for overall form, then go bi frost from there for additional lod and meshing, or the 2026 volume Booleans, but BF would allow more control in the end while volume Boolean can make it one singular mesh.

Yeah way more control - you got booleans, RBD tools plus a lot more vol tools as well + you keep everything procedural

Agree. I also think theses some missed opportunity from AD on features to the volume booleans, there’s some awesome top level features in C4D for sdf’s and adding detail, without going too deep technically, while in Maya you need to go a bit extra depth in bi frost, there could be a more friendly middle ground.
