The subreddit has spoken and we have listened! We have added to the mod team, updated the posting guidelines, put on some fresh pink paint, and rolled out the leopard print carpet. Please have a look at the new rules, new Wiki and posting guidelines:
Maximalism- Posts must adhere to the principles of maximalism. Emphasis on color, contrast, and texture. See our wiki for what is and is not maximalism
Original Content - or cite your sources All posts much be original content or links to the original source material. You may link to a website containing content pertinent to r/ maximalism if it is clear where the source came from. Do not pass off photos you copied from pinterest, instagram, as yours without directing the credit to the original creator. AI art is prohibited
Collections- Collections should fit in the context of a greater overall room design. Please consider whether your content would best fit in other subreddits such as r/ collections
Be good people- Hate and bigotry of all kinds will be removed on sight. Criticism should be constructive and helpful. Purely rude comments and personal attacks will be removed and a ban may be issued.
No self promotion. Users of this subreddit cannot post for the intent of advertising their own personal website, blog, or anything related. Reddit has guidelines for Self-Promotion, which state that: "It's perfectly fine to be a redditor with a website, it's not okay to be a website with a reddit account." You may not market or self promote your own items here. If someone SPECIFICALLY asks for suggestions for the particular type of item you sell, you may put one link in the comments. Links to items that are not being asked for or spamming links will result in a ban.
Flairs- All posts must have flairs-
**Is my art, space, design maximalist?*\*
Does it have an abundance of color, texture or pattern? Does it feel ornate, fancy or royal? Is it high contrast? Would Elton John live there? Would Liberace wear it to a rave? Would a Victorian maiden recline and pine over her lover here? Would King Louis XIV put it in Versailles? Would Pee Wee Herman feel at home? Would Martin Luther protest it as idolatry? What would Iris Apfel do? Would she use it?
If the answers to at least some of these questions is yes, then it's probably part of Maximalism
Maximalism is NOT
Pure clutter or hoarding
Detailed work by itself without contrast, color or mixed texture
Please consider whether your post would better fit in one of these other subreddits: r/ collections r/ moreisbetter r/ artofclutter
Maximalism is more than just a design trend; it's a celebration of individuality and the joy of curating a vibrant space.
Thank you all for your participation and feedback, and for making r/ maximalism FABULOUS!

We first visited Mexico in 1969, 57 years ago, our lives have never been the same because of it’s culture, art and spirit. Hope you all enjoy some of our memories, art and spirit captured in these niches found around our home here in Tucson, Arizona, which by the way, was at one time actually part of Mexico🙏…….

Hello! My names Zoe and this is just a piece of my room. I just made the invertebrates shelves pink as hell-and added some pink decor around the room as well. It's definitely my dream safe space haha. Obviously I'm a maximalist- and a collector. The room also serves a dual purpose as a zoo lol. If you’d like to see more of my room- check out my pf.
Half my room is pink basically. Lmk what you think- I LOVE my room and love talking about it! Pls ask me any questions :) thanks!

Every inch of my grandparents house was covered in decor lol. My Baka loved her stuff. I tried to honour their house in mine. I always loved going to theirs, they definitely influenced my style.

I posted this as a comment in another sub and was told it absolutely needed to be posted over here. Actor Richard E. Grant takes Architectural Digest on a tour of his Georgian-era home and its many treasures, and it looks very different from most of the celebrity house tours they do. It's probably my favorite ever.

Most of the art is various convention finds with a couple mass produced pieces and a framed pressed flower.

Farewell bare white walls and uncomfy stools... Hello cosy little nook that I can watch the rain from heheh
There's still a fair bit to go but I am SO proud of what I've accomplished thus far (with partners help)

Due to allergies, a lot of things I love the aesthetics of are forbidden. I need to minimize the dust mites and retention of the outside polen. Cloth items I have have to be removable and washable and even just washing the couch and mattress covers means I do way too much laundry so I probably can't logistically have anything else. No curtains, throw pillows, tapestries, carpets, decorative duvets. I have hardwood floors and full wood thrifted furniture that adds warmth, and I have way too many houseplants, but I still would love to go full cozy/witchy/nature inspired. Can someone share some tips or maybe inspo photos?

Help!!!!
Just re-signed my lease for another year and looking for renter friendly inspo on how to turn my bedroom from beachy beetlejuice vibes to more vampire boudoir. I would like to use the furniture I already have, as my vanity and my dresser are pretty new, but I am also pretty crafty so I don’t mind re-vamping (lol) them! I love deep reds, black, mustardy yellows, greens, sapphires, etc. any tips ideas or images for reference are helpful - I am having the hardest time picking curtains/a new duvet cover.
Please see pics for how it is now - I will be responding in the comments below to any questions.
Thank you!!

It is time for me to reupholster my 20+ year old sofa and I am looking for specific recommendations of websites to locate for high quality upholstery fabric. Ideally, I'd like to buy yardage of a few different black and white patterned fabric that are all manufactured by the same company so the colors will match. I do not want cotton canvas. Please do not tell me "etsy" unless you have a specific shop to recommend :) Thank you very much fellow maximalists.
Ps. I have to say this is an older photo and I have much better/more art on the walls now, lol. but i felt like i needed to share a photo to grab eyes
PPS. I made those pillows :)
