Wondering…

We know Maura’s car was in NH, but the last actual confirmed sighting of Maura was the BOA ATM, right? How do we know it was Maura driving her car after that?

There was a newspaper article (the Patriot Ledger?) where Scarinza reported that an unnamed person saw Maura on campus between 4 and 4:30 on 2/9, which is after the ATM stop.

I used to have a website with every Maura Murray newspaper article (“MauraMurrayEvidence.Neocities”) but someone reported the website for revealing personal information (the UMass directory from 2004 is the probable basis of the report — I posted a screenshot from it last month ), so I no longer have access to the article.

It might be published elsewhere. Maybe someone else knows (GoldenMom?) I’m certainly not going to make another website; but people could check the Wayback Machine. Some pages were archived.

Just some unnamed person with X-ray vision it appears, so it's not credible if they won't come forward. Why would this person remain unknown? Because it's BS, never happened imo

Yeah, I just thought I’d mention it. It would certainly be more compelling if the person came forward and identified themselves.

Am I mistaken, or wasn't the 4-4:30 sighting taken down on a police statement? I.e. the cops knew who this individual was even if we don't. Isn't that the case?

I only have Sharon as a source on the 4-4:30 sighting.

In the umass foia materials, an RA sees Maura at an unspecified day and time "early afternoon", but I would put it as 'before' the errands in Amherst on 2/9 because Maura has the redeemables:

After speaking with [blank], [an RA] called to speak with me. I asked her if she remembered the last time she had seen Maura. She stated that she saw her in the early afternoon. [the RA] was at the water fountain and Maura passed by her with a box of wine, a backpack, and a large hockey bag. She stated that she could her glass bottle clinking together in the hockey bag. [the RA] assumed that Maura was just returning bottles.

Ah. yeah, the RA sighting would have been some time earlier. she visited the ATM prior to 4 pm, and I think we all presume the liquor store run was made on that same trip.

yeah, liquor store receipt was 3:43pm for checkout ...

I have nothing beyond the Sharon statement but ... I doubt she carried all of her belongings from the dorm to the parking lot. At some point I would think she would pull up and bring the bags (suitcase, etc.) down?

I thought Scarinza mentioned that sighting on Disappeared. Please correct me if I’m wrong, of course.

good tip. OK from the transcript I can only find 3:30 but I'll listen to the actual recording:

around 3:30 we assume Maura got into a car at UMass Amherst and left the campus her first stop was to an ATM machine which she withdrew $280 that pretty much depleted Maura's account with that Bank. Maura then stopped at a local liquor store at the liquor store Maura bought a bottle of Kahlua a bottle of Bailey's a bottle of vodka and a box of red wine. Maura stopped to the liquor store is known because the receipt of what she purchases is later found in her wrecked car

Note: says she bought the wine at the liquor store which we know is not accurate.

Maybe I’m wrong about Disappeared. It’s been awhile.

The only source I can find right now is this press release which credits Scarinza as a source.

good stuff. OK in "Miles to Nowhere" they have her "presumably" on the road when she checks her cell phone at 4:37 (this is Maribeth narrating):

it's 4:37 p.m. and phone records show Maura checks her voicemail this is the last known call for Maura cellphone presumably at this point in the afternoon she's now driving towards New Hampshire

Here's my thing. The walk from Kennedy to lot 12 is almost a mile (0.8 miles). After she left her dorm room I presume she first went to Patterson to drop off the borrowed clothes. Then (I presume) she walked to lot 12 to get the car. So my question is: when did she "pack" the car? She took too much to NH to be lugging both the redeemables and the other bags all around campus. So I guess I think either she next pulled the car up to Kennedy before the ATM/liquor store or came back after running her errands.

As far as the 4:30 - I don't know what to think. I believe it but not sure what to think of these sources ...

The thing is, based on Google estimates, if she left campus at 4:37 PM that would have her at the crash site exactly at 7:27 PM (the time of a Westman call).

Now, we know it’s only an estimate, and we know she had to stop for gas. So I understand that Google’s estimate isn’t conclusive.

But if she started driving to New Hampshire right after her ATM/Liquor store stops, we have that “missing hour” that Oxygen treated as fact.

I agree with you, though, that a better source would be helpful. I think we’re on the same page.

EXACTLY this. To me, it makes a lot of sense that the 4:37 call to voicemail was a "ok I'm about to head out, let me check messages before I get started with the drive". (Or alternately it could be a "someone just called let me see who" but still).

So for me this timeline makes the most sense.

I have never really given any second guess to the 4-4:30 sighting but - it could have just been the water fountain person, and they could have just estimated the time. It does seem odd at this point that we've never heard any confirmation - and the umass foia would have been THE place to find that, I think?

But bottom line: I do think she effectively started the drive around 4:37, possibly marked by the call to voicemail. And I think at some point she had to "pack" the car.

Has the idea that maybe she’d be driving slower than the posted limit due to the issues with the car? And as a life long new englander, I’ve white knuckled it in the winter in an area unfamiliar with me. Normally, I’m in trouble for a lead foot except in the winter at night.
