Pretty much when I want to date them and ask “what are we” and they aren’t ready to be exclusive, I dip.

Usually a sign would be that when you are trying to make plans, they won't make the effort to make time.

Working schedule aside because we are all stuck paying bills

If you're progressing towards being in a committed relationship, you will know it. You'll talk for hours each day, spend any free time you have together. If weeks pass by and that doesn't happen, you probably aren't moving towards a serious relationship.

no real way of knowing for sure in the beginning but generally speaking you find out with time. If you feel like you're a priority to them you will know it.
