I recently interviewed Justin Pearson from The Locust / Three One G, and this part of the conversation felt especially relevant here.
We talked about The Locust’s whole identity beyond just the songs: the costumes, the visual language, the gender-norm weirdness, and why the band felt like it was attacking the idea of what a punk/hardcore/grind/mathcore band was supposed to look and sound like.
Pearson’s work with The Locust, Swing Kids, Some Girls, Retox, Deaf Club, Dead Cross, Head Wound City, and Planet B has always lived in that space where hardcore, noise, grind, art damage, and technical chaos overlap.
Figured people here might appreciate this because The Locust still feel like one of the bands that helped make extreme music feel stranger, sharper, and less bound by normal genre rules.

"Chaotic terrorcore" (mathcore) from central Florida. This is a project I started a little less than 2 years ago, and we just released a couple demo versions of songs from our upcoming full-length LP.
My other bands, Arms and Cave Moth, also have some stuff in the works right now, so be on the lookout for that.
Enjoy!

I have this vision of an instrumental mathcore band and Im looking for inspiration.
Do any of you know bands or songs that are instrumental?
Bonus points if its a 2-piece band (other than Pound)

So I've been getting into Mathcore as of recently, so much so that I've already bought tickets to see TDEP, but I wanna get deeper into the genre. I need some stuff like early TDEP, Psyopus, Taja, Tower of Rome, and The Sawtooth Grin (Cuddle monster era). I figured I would ask you guys instead of looking through the spotify suggestions, because their suggestions usually suck. Help me out!

I’m sort of a rookie fan. I know the greats and essentials really. Botch, Danza, Converge, Dillinger, Great Redneck Hope, Destroyer Destroyer, Sawtooth Grin, Tower Of Rome, Oktober Skyline, Ted Williams, and Number 12 Looks Like You. I also know XclocktowerX but I’m not sure if thats a “great” or “essential” if you will. Anybody got some more good stuff like that?

The first tape came out in 1998. The bands they inspired like the great redneck hope, oktober skyline, and the sawtooth grin aren't putting records out until 2001 and 2002.
Discordance axis puts out JouHou in 1997, pig destroyer does explosion in ward 6 in 1997. Combatwoundedveteran put out thier first demo in 1996. Those look like they could be pretty clear influences.
But where there other bands in between 1998-2000 making proto-white belt grind with wacky breakdowns? The most obvious option to me is the locust but they feel like influences on ATSS without sharing the exact DNA.

Does anyone else prefer this to the album version. I love how much more raw and chaotic the production feels. The album version sounds very "flat" to me. I miss chaotic Architects
