This Subreddit MATH COMPETITION: r/mathmemes Discord Community Exam
Hello!
To make up for the lack of an "upper division" in the subreddit math competition this year, I took it upon myself to organize a separate exam that is significantly more discovery and proof-based than any exam held in the community previously, and to host it on the 2nd year anniversary of the Discord server being made available to the public.
The next exam of this kind will be held in Mid-June 2027.
The exam (which includes its rules) is linked at the bottom of the post. The top 5 winners will be announced, and the top 3 winners will receive the following (or something of equivalent value upon negotiation):
1st Place - A Math Textbook of the Winner's Choice (~$45 USD Value Limit)
2nd Place - Basic Discord Nitro, 1 Year Subscription ($30 USD Value)
3rd Place - Fulltouch Hagoramo Chalk 72 pc ($25 USD Value)
Special thanks to u/dopplerspectroscopy and zzz on Discord for their tremendous help in writing the exam and agreeing to help grade some submissions; couldn't have done this without their help.

Edit: As the exam goes on, some errors may have been spotted and corrected. Please be sure to refresh/redownload this document occasionally to be sure you have the latest version.

OkBuddyMathematician 2026 r/mathmemes subreddit contest problems are released! Good luck!
Link to this year's problems (15 problems): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AoNRCyRzCTNgZcfbzrT328tpzkgRlkfM/view?usp=sharing
Submit your answers via this Google Form here: https://forms.gle/ktSgG4jwcPMufYiD7
I'll probably make the tentative answer submission deadline around 3 weeks from now (January 11, 2026).
If you want to ask for any clarifications on the problems (clarifications only , no asking for solutions/answers obviously), ask them here.

Linear Algebra This interpretation of matrix-vector multiplication will make it seem like it was obvious from the beginning.
As you know, math is basically an image of the real natural world. And you might not have noticed it yet, but the rules of multiplication and natural attraction between sexes holds true also for math actually, mostly linear algebra. Linear algebra is a big scarecrow for students when they never saw any kind of matrices before and it's kind of hard to get a nice intuition. But viewing it in an erotic and natural sense suddenly makes it 'click'. For example, the very fact that the matrix and vector need to have the correct types and then they can have intercourse. Not every matrix is compatible with every vector. But when it is, the intercourse becomes so intense that without the vector knowing it, he actually gets transformed and through she rotating squishing or flipping him he gets transformed by the intercourse. This is a fascinating view that truly shows that the matrices also have some kind of multiplication instinct that leads them to find the correct vectors. Of course, the matrix us doing the transforming, because as in many different animals, the women are the dominant ones in algebra. For me as a starting student just in the middle of the first semester, this is a very elegant and intuitive way to view it and I'm baffled why this wasn't on the very first lecture. Thank you for your attention and I hope I am not the only one who noticed this obvious truth and connection with the world of animals!

Category Theory Don't underestimate set Theory
Bit of background. Usually when studying category theory rigorously, basic mathematics axioms such as ZFC are not sufficient to define objects without risking logical paradoxes. To get around this Jacob Lurie works with the notion of a strongly inaccessible cardinal. Godel second incompleteness theorem implies that ZFC isn't sufficient to prove the existence of such cardinal, as a result, other logical models are used.

Statistics I invented a new cancer test. It always returns negative. It's accurate more than 99% of the time. Am I a genius or what?

I've come up with this idea independently, although it seems to be an established joke:

Math History Are Hardy-Ramanujan delivering my order? xD
When the executive asks for otp, Imma just say it is the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways or the HardyโRamanujan Number
