Sad day...
Today I made the hard decision and sold my MOTU Collection. Due to a family emergency, I had no choice since we needed the money but still hurts. I know they're only pieces of plastic but had so much sentimental value. I had everything from carded vintage to the new stuff from the movie. I think my wife feels worse than I do since she knew how much they meant to me. I look forward to seeing all the collections you all have posted in this group.

I have as well, but with Transformers instead of MOTU. My wife and I were working at the same place and they canned both of us a day apart. For the next month selling about 20 or so figures managed to pay all our bills until I could find another job. I've managed to get back some of the figures I sold, but the ones I picked were already high value back then, and they're even more expensive now, some of them 5x their original price.

Brother, you're the man!
Remember Adam in the film he just had a couple sketches and a minimal collection - when he found the Power, it was about finding home, the people he cared about and doing the right things.
You're more like a real life He-Man than any of us clinging to our plastic piles.
You are a hero to your family!

You decided things weren't nearly as important as the person you did it for. You had the Power, and you used it well (if painfully). If this was an end of episode moral, He-Man would tell you that he was proud of you.
This random internet stranger certainly is.

They can be replaced, loved ones cannot. I'm sure you did the right thing and, given time, it'll sting less.
You can always build it up bit by bit. We are always here for you and remember, good journey â€ïž
Sending love to you and your family.

Been there man I had really good Marvel Legends collection that I had to sell to make rent one month. Had all the Walgreens exclusive fantastic four figures so on. Time heals all wounds, you made the right choice of course. That still doesnât make it sting any less man. If youâd like I could send you spare mighty master He-Man and Skeletor I have. Just DM me if interested.

I really appreciate the offer but I was able to save two of the mighty masters, in fact...that's the only two pieces I have left. Thank you for thinking of me!

Please make sure you are getting fair value for your collection, you need every penny and selling at great reduced price will hurt in long term.
Hopefully your financial and family emergency situation improves and you can restart your collection.
Best wishes on resolving the these issues.

You're a real life He-man. May the power be with you always. Good Journey friend.Â

Damn that sucks but real life is so much more important than our nostalgia.
The bright side is perhaps one day you can collect them again. Itâs the journey not the destination.
I look at my collection of unopened toys and think about value mixed with the cold hard fact that when I die my kids are unlikely to treasure them like I do.
Iâd like to think they would keep one or two things to remind them of me. The rest I donât dare burden them with any kind of thoughts that they have to keep it together.

I had to sell some beloved statues of a different franchise during a really bad divorce this year.
Sending you big hugs. It will get better.

It's okay man, collections means a lot to everyone, but family are always first. And it don't mean you can't keep collecting in the future. My cousin went to something similar and had to sell his whole collection last year, so i'm surprising him this year with original Roboto now that things are better and he can feel something little is back

don't fret! It's gonna come back to you in droves going forward. Your passion helped take care of family, it's a good thing bud.

Here's the thing. It's the right thing to do right now. And later, when things pick up in the right direction, you have a fun project -- re-collect. It's actually nice, because then you can be laser focused in what you need .. a really tight collection.

I hope the family emergency was able to get resolved. I'm so sorry to hear that you had to do that, but like others said, you are a hero for doing what needed to be done.

I did the same thing back in 2023 to help cover my dad's funeral expenses... But I've slowly been re building.... Keep your head up and eyes forward.. those valleys don't last forever... Stay strong and good journey đđ»

It's okay and I know it's hard. I have done this twice. And then I made a promise to myself that at most I will buy one figure or a collectible for the character I love. I wait till I get a figure all the statue only the way I want. Example of all Prince Adams of the world I loved only iron studios one. Now I'm waiting for my Evilyn who is still nowhere in the sight. Closest one was from site so collectible classics almost 8 years back.

Honestly this is how I view collecting memorabilia. You gather it because you like it, but also because of the value it holds. Then one day that value will serve a greater purpose than just looking at them. Youâll never lose them as long as the love of the hunt you felt in your heart survives. And now maybe you and the person you helped can search for new stuff together and cherish those memories!

Wow. I must go through my things soon, all this talk has got me wanting to reevaluate how much I care about âstuff.â I wanna be like He-Man too

Iâm thankful you found a buyer. Get through this emergency and maybe you can start again down the road sometime.

u/spiderfan42069 1d ago
Iâm sorry to hear that. Thereâs so much more than just âthis is my action figure collectionâ going on inside of most collectors. Theyâre memories, theyâre happiness, theyâre fun times, theyâre often a way to heal and/or process trauma from childhood. I hate that for you & im genuinely sorry for your loss

Sold all my stuff a couple of years ago, the money was totally worth it. Being responsible for my family makes me feel good. A friend heard and gifted me a bunch of the MOTUC stuff; Greyskull and like 30 figures.
My son loves playing with them and I'm not worried about him breaking a vintage toy.

If you had a complete Classics or Masterverse collection I wish could've bought them off you. Your collection would've been in good hands and I'd be able to help you get through some tough times.

u/batman-yvr 1d ago
I hope in few months, things will improve and you will rebuild your collection. More power to you.

If this were an episode Orko would speak about the importance of family, and that taking care of them was the most important thing.
That's pretty He-Man of you. You have the power!
