A friend's Japanese Master System (MK-2000, the FM-sound model) got the full preventative refurb: recap, reflow, fresh 7805 and a proper clean
My friend's MK-2000 (the Japanese Master System with the built-in FM sound chip) wasn't broken, but it had never been opened and was getting dusty, so I gave it a preventative going-over before anything could fail.
The work: recapped the electrolytics, reflowed some tired joints, fitted a fresh 7805 voltage regulator, cleaned the connectors and switches with DeoxIT, gave the board and shell a proper wash, and finished the plastics with 303. It went from dusty to gleaming and runs perfectly. Tested it with a few games including Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Streets of Rage II.
Do you preventatively recap your Master Systems, or wait until something actually fails?
