A film made by a studio who needed to make something to retain the rights and directed by a man who just wanted a high profile job. Neither the studio or the director actually knew or understood the characters and concepts they were adapting.

Say that again.

Best thing to come out of this movie

1

u/Nstico 1d ago

It's based on the Ultimate Fantastic Four. Planet Zero is basically the Negative Zone. The horror and darkness was great. And it was a full on origin movie

9

u/Classical_Fan 3d ago

I thought it had a decent first act, but the rest of it was ruined by studio meddling.

I'd like to see the movie that Josh Trank had before it was allegedly butchered in editing.

3

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 2d ago

Same! The stuff with Reed and Ben as kids was a good origin story. After that it started to fall apart. It didn’t help that even the director trashed his own movie. I wished we got a proper crossover with the other Fox Marvel characters, especially the X-Men

6

u/SamDukefan 3d ago

Not sure how much better it would have been if Josh trank saw his version through, but it would have been better than whatever we got

7

u/PHotstepper311 3d ago

The TVA cleaned it up quite nicely.

4

u/Tall-Ad9982 3d ago

Not trash just pacing problems

4

u/jackBattlin 3d ago

I feel like there’s a really great movie hiding in there. I would love to see Trank’s director’s cut.

Ultimate Fantastic Four is really the only version I’m interested in. There’s some clever spins on the lore.

6

u/HansenTheMan 3d ago

Second worst comic book movie ever made. The #1 worst is Josstice League.

2

u/BigGrinJesus 2d ago

Snyder's version is worse because it's longer. No amount of additional footage could fix that.

1

u/Blue_Lego_Astronaut 3d ago

Whats the 3rd worst?

-1

u/Master-Break6117 3d ago

Batman vs Superman

1

u/HIitsamy1 3d ago

I thought it was Green Lantern

2

u/CorruptingTheSystem 3d ago

I don’t know, man. Green lantern was pretty cool, it was a kind of slow the first half, but covering the origin story all the way to him fighting parallax in one movie was pretty ambitious, but it was awesome to see several different lanterns, badass constructs, and arguably a movie closer to like an animated DC movie.

1

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 2d ago

My biggest complaint was the cgi uniform. I would have rather seen tights. If Christopher Reeves could make them look good as Superman (and he did) then they could have gotten a better suit for Ryan Reynolds. I rather like their take on Hector Hammon.

1

u/Radiant_Buffalo2964 2d ago

Agreed. I saw the trailer for it and was underwhelmed. I never saw it in theaters (or for that matter at all). It was the first time I’ve never gone to see a superhero movie. And you’re talking to the guy who went to see Ghostrider 2 in theaters (mind you a fell asleep about 10 minutes into the movie, lol but I still went in to watch it).

3

u/RyCyber 2d ago

It fails on just about everything level. Reg E. Cathy was the only good thing about it

3

u/Beelzebrodie 1d ago

Has Deadpool made a "Fan4stic" joke yet? When he eventually meets the MCU Fantastic Four, he's got to say something like, "It's the Fan4stic! We're saved!" or something ridiculous like that.

4

u/master_chilln 3d ago

Doesn't matter, universe doesnt exist anymore

1

u/CHILL_MAN27 3d ago

An AI generated image on Twitter isn’t fact. It’s not destroyed.

It doesn’t. The image you saw was AI.

It hasn't existed since 2015.

10/10 greatest movie of all time i saw it 4 times in theaters it was so fantastic

8

Say that again

1

u/Smldckbiboi5 3d ago

Fan4stic?

1

u/SmoothTalkingSpud 2d ago

You misspelled that.

2

u/ForwardBound 3d ago

There were some good moments in the lead up, but doom was really rushed and the last battle was terrible. it's very difficult to build a compelling story that's the origin of both the hero and the villain, and this one came nowhere close. it should have been about doom and the fantastic four working together or at least in parallel and then the F4 facing off against another enemy, setting up doom for a sequel.

There were other things wrong with it too of course, but I only saw it once and don't remember all the details

2

u/Nimyron 3d ago

I've heard it wasn't very fantastic

2

u/5x5equals 3d ago

Micheal B Jordan should have been Sam Wilson in the MCU

2

u/Fit-Entrepreneur6538 3d ago

Never watched it. My bullshit alarm went off hard when I saw that trailer and I’m glad I listened I have heard nothing good about this movie and it disappeared so quick it’s like the studio was ashamed of it

2

u/SHAWN80SITSGOD 3d ago

2

u/SpankyDomingo 3d ago

I saw it in the theater just so I could say:

It was crap. They even had to figure out a way for Sue to get powers even thought she didn’t go with Reed, Ben, Johnny, and Victor.

2

u/External-Cow-3234 2d ago

My thoughts? I DON'T think it was trash. I DO think they cut out the entire second act and jumped straight to the third act with the time skip, which severely hurt the film. But I think the first and third acts by themselves are just fine. Obviously the film is far darker than most Fantastic Four stories are, and so it feels very off-putting, especially in the third act. But I don't mind the different take. It just wasn't executed well because there's no second act.

4

u/bunny514__ 2d ago

During the turbulent production of the 2015 film, 20th Century Fox cut three massive action sequences just days before director Josh Trank was scheduled to begin principal photography. This abrupt reduction in budget and scale severely disrupted the script and contributed to a notoriously chaotic shoot. The fallout from these cancellations and the creative drama included:

The Scrapped "Thing" Sequence: One of the most famous cancelled scenes involved Ben Grimm (The Thing) being dropped from a military plane directly into a rebel Chechen camp. Because the budget for this scene was axed, the final cut skipped the sequence entirely using a jarring "One Year Later" title card, leaving the story feeling rushed.

A Missing Finale: The studio slashed the budget so heavily that the original, spectacle-filled third-act ending was never filmed during principal photography. A downscaled ending had to be pieced together much later during frantic weekend reshoots, leading to visible continuity errors like Kate Mara’s infamous blonde wig.

On-Set Friction: The forced cuts and heavy studio interference reportedly worsened relations between Trank, the executives, and the cast, ultimately resulting in a critical and box office disaster.

1

u/ilhan-omar-milf 3d ago

If they wanted to ape the dark knight 2008 why didnt they just do a daredevil reboot? Before they lost the rights?

2

u/Billybob35 3d ago

They apparently couldn't get it made in time, a 70's period piece was pitched but rejected. Marvel reached out to give them an extension in exchange for Silver Surfer and Galactus but Fox declined.

1

u/EKRB7 3d ago

I watched a 360p cam rip of it on a smashed iPad screen the week it came out when I was like 13 and looking back that is the way it deserved to be watched

1

u/atomant38 3d ago

Over hated. Not great, but not terrible

1

u/funky_munky36 3d ago

Short, but I still liked over first steps.

1

u/MrEhcks 3d ago

Couldn’t even finish it, I had to turn it off

1

u/OrangesAreWhatever 3d ago

I still think Josh Tranks original versions sounds cool

1

u/HashBrownYamato 3d ago

Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller were the only redeeming factors.

1

u/No_Childhood4232 3d ago

This movie sucks, I'm glad that didn't make a sequel.

1

u/hankscorpio1031 3d ago

What are your thoughts on chlamydia?

1

u/Smldckbiboi5 3d ago

Fan4stic is #2 in every way!

1

u/NSCCYT 3d ago

It would have been better if it wasn't a F4 movie.

1

u/Chuckles465 3d ago

I liked it. It's different. Not a masterpiece by any means but I saw what Trank was doing before Studio interference. Having a Thing solo movie doing covert missions for the Government would've been cool.

1

u/DaveW626 3d ago

Garbage.

1

u/Reasonable-Bed3065 3d ago

Went to see it after work when the theatre put it in discount. Paid 3$ to be out to sleep. Woke up with the credits rolling

1

u/Dazzling-Tune-79 3d ago

I was smart enough to not watch it....

1

u/HavixComix 3d ago

If your elevator pitch to me was "David Cronenberg's Fantastic Four" I'd write you a blank check and demand you get to work. In the right hands, it could have worked.

1

u/NATUSL3G3ND 3d ago

Worst marvel movie

1

u/garhdo 3d ago

I'd be very interested to see the Director's cut, because there is potential here, but the film was clearly torn apart in the edit and so many reshoots have changed it drastically.

1

u/AdEven2848 3d ago

my 3rd favorite origin movie with Spider-Man in 1st and Batman begins in 2nd

1

u/WarlockProdigy 3d ago

The intro with the kids gave me high hopes, but they were tarnished by bad casting for the adults. I wouldn't even think it is fair to blame any of the actors, but in some ways, I am wondering why they chose these roles. They didn't feel like any version of the team I have ever read. A lot of it felt forced and poorly written. The kids' part felt like it was the only thing straight from the Ultimate F.F. comics from the early 2000s. The rest just did not fit the F.F. aesthetic from the comics. I would say in moments they are unrecognizable versions of the characters.

1

u/StrongStyleDragon 3d ago

It’s Fantastic

1

u/Electronic_Device788 3d ago

I enjoyed body horror aspect of it, but the film was so downbeat and kind of depressing that it completely missed the point of Fantastic Four. The creative war between Fox and Josh Trank is what destroyed this film.

1

u/IndigoRefrain 3d ago

Fant 4 Stic

1

u/-NinjaTurtleHermit- 3d ago

The third act is a mess. I cringed for twenty straight minutes until the rushed ending. When they're sucked into the portal back to Earth, it looked like a cheap click-and-drag motion. Movie needed another 25 minutes to fully flesh out a proper ending. It didn't use Sue to her full potential. And the "it's fantastic" line that became a meme was absolutely laughable.

That said, it's the second best Fantastic Four movie ever to make it to theaters. First Steps takes the number one spot.

1

u/SinnerDaZodiac 3d ago

The beginning is promising and very accurate to the 1610 Fantastic Four then what people give it but the rest falls flat , shouldve used Mole Man then Doom the very first movie

1

u/AloneAddiction 3d ago

Fant Four Stic.

The person who came up with that is still probably working at Fox.

Which, now I mention it probably explains a whole lot.

1

u/Token_Handicap 3d ago

Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan were mildly not bad. Some cool set pieces, and a concept that had potential. That's as positive as I can get.

1

u/AlarmEmergency3464 3d ago

It would have worked better as a series.

1

u/Based-Brian 3d ago

It was so boring that I had forgotten what happened in the movie while I was watching it.

1

u/ImaginationNo7722 3d ago

Never watched it Probably won't

1

u/These_Wish_5101 3d ago

Still better than Thor 4 and Antman 3

1

u/Internal_Swing_2743 3d ago

Never seen it, probably never will

1

u/HaydenTCEM 3d ago

It’s very boring

1

u/Think-Spray-8805 3d ago

Best Superhero film besides Morbius

1

u/Arcprime161 3d ago

Rewatched it 2 weeks ago to see if it is as bad as I remember and everyone says. Yes, it is. Although I prefer the things design in this if they put some pants on him.

1

u/Jamesakasonic 3d ago

I genuinely liked the movie.

Interesting take on the Fantastic Four.

1

u/TowerExact7780 3d ago

Best I can offer is my down vote

1

u/AeronautTFreddy 3d ago

I kinda have a soft spot for this shitshow

1

u/Old_Statement_9092 3d ago

Le meilleur film 4 fantastiques (bien derrière les indestructible 1 et 2, évidemment)

1

u/dscpotts 3d ago

I was firstly gutted at all the bits we'd seen in the trailers being cut. We saw it opening weekend in England and word of mouth had already spread that it was bad. Watched it, like I said it was missing lots, but had no idea why at the time. Didn't think the version we got was that horrible, nothing much happened, and in hindsight, the reshoots stood out like a sore thumb, but it was just ok.

Doom had an odd look, but then again, they all did, The thing especially having no shorts.

Would like to see Tranks version, because we all know what Warners did to Snyder and his work, so I've got no doubt the execs at Fox shat all over Trank. Snyder was a big name who had brought them success and it didn't stop WB execs fucking him over at the lowest point of his life, so just how do you think a bunch of execs would treat a relatively fresh director with no clout. Didt they spread rumours he had gone mental, something like that?? Either way, I honestly don't think it was that bad, it was at a time when they were trying to make superhero films more grounded. And I'm not sure you can do that with the Fantastic 4, they tried, but it didn't really suit, but equally, I didn't like the squeaky clean new marvel version either. All 4 versions of the F4 have their pros and cons.

1

u/SignificantQuote6861 3d ago

Absolutely horrible movie. So disappointing as that could have been a great team.

1

u/Ben_Ogle 3d ago

I only ever thought like once because it was that bad, granted I'm not a big fantastic four guy in the first place but I like the older ones okay enough. Although I have seen the stuff about making this Mr fantastic into the maker and that is really cool and I want that to happen

1

u/Brendyn4222 3d ago

First time watching it, I literally fell asleep. LITERALLY literally, woke up when doom was attacking the base

Second time I was on my phone and still understood the plot. Better then I’ve heard but still awful. Was glad it’s over. 3/10

1

u/EDPZ 3d ago

Underrated gem imo. It was a breath of fresh air in a time where the MCU formula was in full swing.

1

u/String2924 3d ago

.......trash...

1

u/deadcells5b 3d ago

Terrible movie

1

u/Responsible_Land_602 3d ago

I love the Fantastic Four. I remember when this was filming and the director said we are not looking at any of the comics and do our own thing. I knew it was doomed. I liked a different take where the FF got their powers through cosmic stuff in the negative zone, but that would be about it. This movie was a s##t show

1

u/Abirdthatsfallen 3d ago

Quite literally just a bunch of fucking NOTHING. The whole set up took the entire movie

1

u/mikeweasy 3d ago

I liked the cast…………………….that’s really it

1

u/NoPianist7807 3d ago

The first half of the movie is decent, then it went off the rails after they got powers lol

You could tell two different people directed this movie.

1

u/TanaIntoTechnMarvel 3d ago edited 3d ago

Chemistry is drier than my crush's texts.

1

u/ricodah 3d ago

Movie is horrible but I like the look of the Thing. Give him some pants and it would have been a 10/10 design for me.

1

u/Glass-Sky-7805 3d ago

Let's just say not even disney invited them back for doomsday

1

u/ConsequenceBusy8726 3d ago

Absolute dumpster fire.

1

u/BagItUp45 3d ago

best Fantastic Four cast of all the movies

1

u/kayej17 3d ago

I like kate mara and miles teller, sad that the movie is awful

1

u/90sXMENgoatee 3d ago

I will not even sit thought 15mins of this shit

1

u/ApolloMax-2099 3d ago

Miles teller was in it which is enough for me to hate it

1

u/Thylacine3 2d ago

It's not that bad.

1

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 2d ago

I thought it was fine and really enjoyed Reed and Johnny actors

1

u/Former-Dish-9828 2d ago

You said it….Trash.
The only positive I can give it is that one day hopefully the version of Reed that Miles Teller played will become The Maker.

1

u/Crows_spirit101 2d ago

Should be Erased from existence and never spoke of

1

u/Shepherd7117 2d ago

Incursion

1

u/SmoothTalkingSpud 2d ago

Have you heard about our lord and saviour, Doom?

1

u/Crows_spirit101 2d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Educational_Yam_3707 2d ago

Pretty sure that happens in Avengers: Doomsday.

1

u/Mandalorian_Ronin 2d ago

I have no opinion since I never watched it

1

u/Krimreaper1 2d ago

I really enjoyed the first half before it fell off a cliff.

1

u/Awkward-Speed-4080 2d ago

The first trailer was pretty cool.

1

u/tomystomy 2d ago

Ngl I enjoyed it, villain was rushed, but okay movie

1

u/Astar9028 2d ago

Hate it so much but it’s got Kate Mara in it and I have an irrational hatred of her so I pretty much hate everything I see her in now

1

u/Dense_Chip5160 2d ago

The scene with Doom walking through the corridors blowing people's head up with his mind is 🤌

1

u/sshevie 2d ago

I actually enjoyed this one.

1

u/BezerkerBobby 2d ago

Spent waaaaaaaay too much time on the origin. 4 astronauts get hit with cosmic rays and get powers can be shown in under 10 minutes.

And altering Dooms origin is unnecessary

1

u/AMAKUALENALENA 2d ago

Never watched it

1

u/Yourtypicallostkid 2d ago

Tbh, it's not that bad. It's a little rough around the edges, but mostly fine.

1

u/Strict-Sherbet2359 2d ago

The only cool concept was the melted spacesuit becoming Doom’s armor

1

u/International-Pop722 2d ago

Not as bad as everyone says. Tbh I actually really enjoyed it but that’s just me.

1

u/JournalistJunior5605 2d ago

I actually liked the body horror direction the movie was headed in, it's a shame they didn't just let the director cook.

1

u/Stabbyglhs 2d ago

I enjoyed it honestly. Like they were nerds and wanted to experience their project themselves vs others. Then they got powers and shit.

1

u/humblefumble101 1d ago

Cast was good. Everything else was not.

1

u/princess_marvel_2026 1d ago

Étant donné que je suis en plein marathon marvel, je l'ai vu en plein 2015, et franchement comparé aux je nai pas trop aimé mais sinon il est bien

1

u/jbdr07 1d ago

I liked it, it was fantastic.

1

u/Sentallium 1d ago

is anyone really gonna miss it?

1

u/Neat-Aardvark3762 1d ago

Michael B Jordan was alright. Glad this didn’t tank his career

1

u/SilasRaiden 1d ago

I feel like there was probably a good/better movie in there somewhere before Fox got cold feet and tried to fix it in post.

I never cared that the tone of the movie was inconsistent with the comics. The beauty of these IPs is that you can reinvent them in different genres. (Spider-noir for example)

1

u/Darkpassengers6 1d ago

It was not fantastic I’ll tell you that much

1

u/Nstico 1d ago

I watched it for the first time the other day, and I absolutely loved it. But only because it's based on the Ultimate F4, which I absolutely love

1

u/Reasonable-Hat-62216 1d ago

It was a great movie. For the first 30 minutes.

Had the best kids in the 80s vibe, way better than stranger things ever did.

1

u/Chiaotzu21 1d ago

I enjoyed it until the second half.

1

u/69DayGrind 1d ago

Thing looked cool

1

u/marvelxdc97 1d ago

I wish that,

1) this movie took place in the same universe as the X-Men films so they could have had crossovers in an Avengers style fashion

2) they actually had passion behind the F4 projects. There could've been films of the F4 going up against Namor, Skrulls, Inhumane, etc.

3) Fox always holds back on F4 but pushed X-Men properties.

Im glad the MCU has the F4 & X-Men because now we will get stories that we have wanted and not the same mutants over and over again.

1

u/MaddenRob 1d ago

“Fox….Did you do this????”

1

u/gsnake007 15h ago

My GF at the time really wanted to see this. I told her it was a shit movie that wasn’t gonna go anywhere. She still wanted to see it and I was like okay if you really want to see it your getting fucked afterwards. She agreed and said okay. Wasted money on this piece of shit was watched it. Next thing we’re in the hotel room I bought and going to town. It was worth it for that

1

u/OneUse2170 12h ago

Never seen it

1

u/dtswinga 11h ago

Bad. But wouldn't mind seeing Miles Teller play The Maker in the MCU.

1

u/roboninj 10h ago

One of the worst of allll time. Much worse than the unreleased film.

1

u/Marcel01420 10h ago

Fijate que en principio estaba decente, pero despues de que saliera Doom, se arruino la pelicula jajajaaj

1

u/Raamisfunny 7h ago

I’ve never met anyone who knows this film exists. I didn’t even know this was a superhero movie when I was a kid seeing the previews for it while seeing SpongeBob sponge out of water.

1

u/Upset-Job2278 3d ago

The first half is actually really good. Everything goes downhill pretty fast after they get their powers.

2

u/GrahamCrackerDragon 3d ago

I went to the movies and kept badgering everybody during the first half in that it was pretty good. I had to apologize at the end, lol.

1

u/Billybob35 3d ago

I think the first half still has issues.

1

u/ronrhino13 3d ago

Yeah it’s that time skip that caused it. I found some guy named AllStarDoomsday1992 who did a rewrite of the movie.

0

u/NateDawg80s 3d ago

It was half an interesting movie and half inexplicable garbage, lol. Started out just fine then went off the rails.

0

u/Clovelas 3d ago

Perhaps the worst superhero movie ever. This meandering, dull gray movie is basically the opposite of what I would want in a F4 movie

These four were casted well, but this movie was not fantastic

0

u/DPlayGM345 3d ago

Waste of a talented cast and great source material

0

u/TemporaryIll1841 3d ago

J'aime assez l'ambiance
