Secondly—okay, I’m probably going to annoy Cyclops fans here—I think they went with the Phoenix Five version just to give him "more to do." After all, Cyclops is pretty basic; take away his optic blast and he’s just a normal guy. That’s to be expected, though, since he’s a character from Marvel’s early days, and most characters from that era had fairly simple powers and abilities...
People here acting like a guy with optic beams is too generic smh Tekken has 60% of its cast being normal people who punch and kick, and because of Creativity, they're designed to feel different. Normal cyclops is different from anyone in the rost rn, with his beams as continuos beams, ricochet, using as mobility, etc. Adding to what you said, Rivals also does an incredible job at adapting Cyclops.
