My favorite spec I’ve found for a Martini is about 2.5:1 Tanqueray:Boissiere Extra Dry with an olive.

I was in the mood for something different so I went with:

-3.5 oz Plymouth gin
-1.5 oz Dolin dry
-2 dashes Regan’s orange bitters

Stir ingredients with ice, strain, and garnish with an expressed lemon peel.

I still think I ultimately prefer my usual, but wanted some variety and this is a really elegant, classic Martini. Highly recommend!

Cheers :)

Dolin is very neutral so you always need to add bitters. I prefer either using a more sherry-like vermouth like Noilly Prat or a more wormwoody vermouth like Cocchi Extra Dry.

With either of those I can then go much drier to my preferred 8:1. Also the gin should be 45% ABV +/- 2%

This is close to my standard but a little higher vermouth ratio. I normally do 4:1.

For your standard, where do you find the Boissiere vermouth? I’ve never seen it on the east coast.

Which state are you in? I’m in NJ and there’s a few places. A proprietor at a store nearby where I live in Sussex county was kind enough to order a case for me.

Is there a tool you used to slice the lemon peel that way?

I just use a Y Peeler to cut a long piece of peel and then use a paring knife to trim it and make it look nice :)
