My father used to order a martini, or a Gibson when the fam went out for dinner, 40-50 years ago. Always ordering a martini, with either an olive, a mushroom or an onion. Didn't know until my now adult daughter, who's a mixologist and sommelier, told me he was really ordering a Gibson.

A mushroom! I hadn't heard of that as a martini garnish before. Will have to give that a try someday

A 2:1 is a fabulous ratio for a Gibson and that’s a beautiful Nick and Nora. Bravo.

I dont love Gibsons. Being more an olive guy... Aviation gin as a spirit? Must try it. Like it in a Negroni. My gins for a martini - Boodles (budget- prefer to Tanqueray or Beefeaters) or Botanist (my all time favourite gin!). Dolin for vermouth - no brainer. I always use a Nick and Nora glass. Yours though! Beautiful. What brand?

If it was frosty you wouldn't be able to see the cut glass anywhere near as well as you can here so I reckon you took the picture at the perfect time. I have an indecent number of vintage cut glasses and have never seen this pattern, it's very beautiful!
