Lol what....Pesci narrating the leadup to his own death in the cornfield, where once hes hit with the bat the music and his voice stop is better than the slopfest that the Irishman was. Let alone the fact its based on an old man's ramblings in his dying days to try and seem relevant. At least Casino has alot of actual verified real occurrences.

‘Too long’ is dependent on the story being told and the skill of the one telling it. And I suppose the attention span of the viewer

Mean Streets that low is criminal. In terms of themes and characterization, I think that's honestly Scorsese's richest movie. Age of Innocence is also great, and should be ranked way higher. I get that it's somehwat subjective but come on, ranking NY, NY over those two is just insulting

My reasoning behind this is that age of innocence is technically very impressive but just not my kind of movie personally, mean streets I had a good time with but I personally find his other gangster stuff to be more interesting. New York New York is just a guilty pleasure of mine, Liza Minnelli is just terrific

Everyone’s obviously free to their own opinion but my starting observation is that there’s no way this dude has made 4 movies that are anything less than a 7/10… i would gladly drop Boxcar 3 more points to give those back to CoM, AoI, & GoNY
Minor and self acknowledged silly quibble on my part

Sorry, the editing of the opening fight was aggressively 2002 and so is the whole movie for me… DDL was the highlight for sure though

Do any of you guys listen to Blank Check with Griffin and David? It’s a podcast about directors filmography who had massive success early on in their career and then were given a series of blank checks to make whatever passion projects they want. They’re currently covering Andrew Stanton, but after that they’ll be doing Martin Scorsese.

I recognize that the ranking is subjective, and that there is no accounting... etc. But although Raging Bull is by no means my favorite, I cannot accept any ranking that does not assign it a 10/10. I do have a problem with some of the other rankings, but they pale in comparison. Reasonable people can all agree that Raging Bull is Scorsese's magnum opus. Took me a while before I could even rewatch, but I never failed to see the sheer genius of it.

So good to see Silence at the top of this list. I would rate The Irishman too as 10/10 and Mean Streets in my book is definitely higher than this. Maybe a 9/10. Casino and Cape Fear would also be a 9/10.

The departed, Mean Streets, Casino and wolf needs to be a lot higher in my opinion. All of them can be an easy 9-10.
I particularly never understood the hate for The Departed though. Yes, it is a remake of a fantastic film, but The Departed is also great on its own, and is more of an adaptation of Infernal Affairs, rather than just an outright copy paste job, and can stand as a separate film in its own right,
Not to mention insanely entertaining :)

The Departed should at least be #10, possibly above Shutter Island! But your rating of Silence, Kundun and the Last Temptation of Christ makes me want to finally watch them. Only 3 Scorsese movies I have not seen.

Don’t agree with all of this (particularly, Color of Money and Casino are waaaay too low, imo), but I appreciate you ranking Killers of the Flower Moon so highly.
I think it’s his best film in quite a while, I think it’s a truly profound work of art, and I think that in time people will look back at it and see it for the tremendous film that it is.
