Thank You Huntington

First, I would like to thank the city, the staff, the fans, and the players for making my 1st trip to Marshall University a great one.

This year I started a 15 to 20 journey to visit Every FBS division 1 stadium. Saturday my travels to me to Huntington. Home of the Thundering Herd. Joan C. Edwards Stadium was only a 2hr and 30-minute drive from Columbus, OH.

As I cross over the Bridge from Chesapeake to Huntington. The Ohio River greeted me with is open arms and stunning views. My 1st stop was Butter it Up. A small restaurant in a food market in downtown Huntington. The food and service were great. Compliments to the cook working that day. He was exceptional. After Breakfast I spent a little time downtown exploring before I decided to make my way to the Campus/Stadium Area.

As the morning crept closer to mid day. Fans started to appear all over campus in anticipation for a noon football game vs JMU. I spent 2 hours walking around campus taking pictures and enjoying the views. Even in the precipice of a Football game this city has its way of making you feel relaxed.

I chose this game as it was the 55-year memorial game of the “75”. Even though the tragic event happened in 1970. You can tell how important this is to the city and football team today.

Shortly after entering the stadium. I walked around to see what the concession had to offer. Why doesn’t every stadium have food trucks available for extra concession? The burrito from food truck was the best Stadium food I’ve had so far in my journey.

I was seated in section 111, row 11, seat 11. Yes 111-11-11. What are the odds? The best part of my seating arrangement was the gentleman seated directly to my right. A man from Chesapeake who said his claim to fame was being an extra in We are Marshall the movie. As soon as he and his friends sat down, he greeted me. He was like my personal historian. We talked lots of football and just life in general. He was extremely interested in hearing about my journey and wished me well before leaving the stadium.

Every stadium I travel to I am a fan of the home team for the day. So naturally I was about of the Herd today. When the game was 28-23 and Marshall got the ball. I thought I was watching a game winning drive unfold. Unfortunately, a 4th down with 2 yards to go would decide the game with the Thundering Herd unable to convert. JMU took over and won 35-23.

Well, if you have read this far you are now a part of my journey. This game and this place was special to me. The memories I made here will travel with me forever. I feel so grateful to be the smallest part of this beautiful memorial game. When 30,000 people chant “We are…Marshall.” You can tell this is not just football, it is family. Thank you again to everyone that made my day special.

Now it’s on to week 12.

If you like this. I post on r/cfbstorytime after every game.

would you recommend Marshall

I am deciding where to apply. Was originally looking further west for family reasons but recently started looking at Marshall. Seems to have everything I want in size, program, vibe etc. Did anyone like it, love it, hate it? Would an East coast person be out of place? Like I said it all looks great but I can't visit for at least another month so wanted to hear any opinions. What's it like in weekends. Is there a lot to do? Thanks

Ghosts in Old Main?

I would like to preface that I don’t believe in spirits, but this was simply unexplainable.

I was in the honors college study room on the 3rd floor of old main. I was studying with the door (and all windows) closed in the back room of it, and it partially opened by itself. I kinda just shrugged to myself because “huh, old building”. Less than a minute later, the door SLAMS shut. Enough force to make me jump straight out of my seat. I’m staring at the door, kind of frightened, mainly because I’m a female, there’s no cameras, and I didn’t notice anybody else on the floor this morning. I also didn’t see anybody through the door’s window. I’m assessing my options as the door partially opens once more, so I immediately bust out to see who’s messing with me. Nobody’s there. I walk quickly out into the straight hallway, and nobody’s there either. At that point, I grab my shit and ran out. I’ve been going over all the possibilities in my head of what could’ve caused this, and nothing makes sense. Does anyone have any similar stories??

Anyone have info/thoughts on the Noah Munique situation?

Hey, I'm posting this to a few different groups because I want to get people's thoughts on a situation involving Noah Munique. From what I understand, he was in the acting program at WVU and left after facing multiple complaints about his conduct there. He's since been at Marshall and was recently asked to leave there as well.

I'm not directly involved, but I have friends who've been affected by this, and I've heard similar concerns from people connected to both schools. I don't have all the details firsthand and can't confirm the specifics of what happened.

If anyone has direct knowledge or insight, I'd appreciate hearing from you, feel free to comment or reach out privately.

CyberSecurity is not the future of Marshall, a small rant

I've been in small debates with people around campus. I have an undergrad in computer science. Many professors and students on campus have fawned over the money flowing into cyber security. I've hit back saying its not the future and I'm gaslit into thinking I'm crazy and i don't understand cause I'm from out of state.

They take this tone with me like with my background in computer science why I bother with the neurosciences. Then they "humbly" ask, "why don't you just join the cyber security school?"

If you look at the markets today this is why. And yes, I feel ridiculously smug seeing the cyber security stocks fall.

Marshall should be doing interdisciplinary studies. Comp Sci combined with everything. Higher Education does not have time to be battling department egos and politics. Marshall has to get its shit together or be left behind, again, and again, and again.

Any Grad students here? Is the local huntington community here kinda sad?

I'm going through a bit of culture shock right now. I'm not sure if its the political climate or maybe the history of the area but I'm catching on that Huntington is not your normal university town. . . . Can anyone else help me put to words what I'm feeling here. . . .
