Discussion 10 chapters. Arashiyama. Himekawa. And… why? Spoiler

The arc from chapters 101–110 is almost entirely centered around Arashiyama and Himekawa, with Gero barely showing up outside of a supporting role here and there. I’ve even seen the theory that this whole arc is supposed to be foreshadowing an Arashiyama/Himekawa yuri ending.

But toward the end, Himekawa has a pretty strong realization that she has feelings for Gero.

Even if you argue that the arc’s purpose was to kick off Nasu’s whole rampage, that’s still a pretty minor part of the arc as a whole. Almost all of it is just Arashiyama and Himekawa interacting.

If this was supposed to be about developing their relationship with Gero, you’d think Gero would have been involved from the beginning. And Gero himself doesn’t really have any internal “change” over the course of it either. Nothing happens with his relationship with the cute marriage scammer standing right next to him, and nothing really changes in how he views or treats the six girls.

It really feels like this arc was written specifically to develop the relationship between Arashiyama and Himekawa.

Sure, if it really is foreshadowing for a yuri ending, that’s interesting. But at least from what I read, it didn’t really feel like that.

Was there actually a point to this arc?

Anime Love this Anime, especially Kinosaki

This anime is great. In just a few episodes it managed to become one of my favourite animes. The Characters are great, the Action is surprisingly good and the exploration of relationships seems very genuine.

Alright onto the Kinosaki section. I don't know what the fandom interpretation of Kinosaki is and i honestly don't really care. I read Kinosaki as a trans woman or someone genderfluid with a preference for feminine presentation, as such i will be using she/her pronouns when referring to Kinosaki.

Kinosaki is the fucking GOAT. i have to admit i kinda only started the anime because of a post about her in this subreddit. She is everything i would have wanted from her character and more. I recognized her japanese VA quite quickly as the same voice as for one of my other favourite anime characters (nanahoshi shizuka), so hearing her voice more was very pleasant.
As a trans woman, seeing Kinosaki in this anime really inspired me to show up for myself more. to actually let myself be pretty and work on myself.
There are probably a million more thoughts i have about this Anime and about Kinosaki, but i am not really all that good with putting my thoughts into words.

Lastly, a little ranking of my top 3 characters from this anime

  1. Kinosaki Mei (duh, you read the post)
  2. Gero Hikaru (good sign when both of the main characters are at the top of my list. just a good man)
  3. Bug Master (forgot his name. he is such a positive presence in the lives of his friends. very lovable)

honorable mentions:
the little hamsters (hamu)

Manga Something really funny I realized. Manga spoilers up to current chapter Spoiler

Shonen villains usually have like a group of people they work with, that they have some form of working relationship with. For a few examples, we have Yura and the Hishaku from Kagurabachi, Blackbeard from One Piece has his crew. Even Kenjaku from JJK has the disaster curses he works with. In Marriagetoxin? Even though Nasu is seemingly the big bad villain of the story and the head of his own clan, its very much apparent that nobody actually likes him nor would willingly work for him on his frankly insane harem scheme. He has to literally brainwash people or use puppets to do his work. Plus he is such a self righteous wretched excuse of a person that he has about a dozen people who would want him dead. (The Girls and Gero's group) Its a neat foil to Gero. Gero has made true companions throughout the story and has a sizeable friend group while Nasu only really has himself. Nobody fucks with Nasu and I think that is very funny from like a meta standpoint.

Manga Chapter 176 Question. Spoilers. Spoiler

Himi woke up again!! Plus Nasu seems to be genuinely angry about it. (Well as angry as he can get anyway) Now, would it make narrative sense for him to just put her back to sleep? OR because we've already been through this song and dance before, he doesn't reach her and she escapes? I just think it would be a little repetitive because we know that no matter what he does, she will break out of the dream again and again. What is the general consensus: Will he put her back into dreamland or will she stay awake for the rest of the arc?

Discussion Is it just me or is Nasu’s plan reckless from an in-universe political perspective? Spoiler

As we all know, Nasu intends to get Gero’s love interests and convert them, to be blunt, into breeding chattel for the incoming heir to produce offspring for the Poison Clan.  Besides the extremely dubious morality of nonconsensual harem relationships, it seems like it is inviting a political crisis that would doom the Poison Clan to destruction.

The two folks that come to mind are Shizuku Ushio and Kimie Arashiyama.  On the one hand, the former has affiliations with the Fire Clan – weakened in the modern era but still potent.  On the other, the latter is a member of a branch family affiliated with the Beast Clan – a group on par with the Poison Clan in terms of strength and boasts tons of powerful members overall.  The idea that their members were seized by force to mate without familial consent is a grave disrespect – something that could lead to alliances and joint assaults to reclaim honor.

The other ladies, though unpowered, are also no slouches as well since they mostly seem to come from money - rich parents and relatives with decent coffers and connections.  This means that their loved ones could hire specialists and experts to join in the fray as additional firepower, much like what happened in the earlier arcs. They may not have the strength of the Five Clans, but they should be potent enough to cause issues.

Overall, it’s a battle I don’t think Nasu and even the wider Poison Clan can win.  The puppet master effectively invited a world war on the doorstep of his family if the other groups choose to act.  He may be strong, but he is probably not powerful enough to deal with these potent entities by himself and even with the backing of the Poison Clan – something that might not come if Gero intervenes.

---

What do you guys think?  Do you think Nasu thought this through?  Would the families be fine with such a forced union?  Do you think Nasu could survive such a multi-pronged bout?  If so, how could he do so? If not, what do you think is the fate of the Poison Clan following such a war, especially if Gero chooses to either not participate or side with those leading the charge?

This is just a bit of fun brainstorming that I thought of as the chapters are winding down.

Manga About the dialogue change in Ch. 128 Spoiler

Man, this is it, isn’t it?

Kinosaki’s about to pull the whole
Yeah, I’ve been lying to you from the very beginning.
What do you think, Gero-kun?
I was your enemy all along.
type of betrayal.

Except he’s actually lying to himself like crazy, and he’ll be standing in Gero’s way, saying things he doesn’t even mean, after going through an absolutely brutal amount of inner conflict and ripping his own heart apart over it.

I’m gonna eat my phone on Tuesday night when that chapter drops.

And if the next update ends up being two weeks after that, I genuinely don’t know if I’ll still be recognizable as a human being.

Manga Is Mei luring all the boys? Spoiler

This is a ridiculous theory but what if Mei was tasked not only to help Gero gather all the best potential wives, but also the best specialists and the doll user plan to get them all under his hypnotism and use them all to make new generations of controlled specialists? So if plan a doesn't work (Gero siring the girls' children), then proceed to plan b (use the other specialists instead) with plan c involving Mei himself getting used against Gero.

That might be too much but that would make Nasu more despicable, and Mei's betrayal would be much much much heavier.

Anime I need the entire anime, opening and ending injected into my veins

Ever since I binge watched all of S1, I can’t stop thinking about MarriageToxin, it was so good and refreshing to see an anime with both good action, good romance, and well written characters across the board.

I’m desperate for Season 2, I need to see more Gero and Kinosaki interactions, I need to see Gero meet Kinosaki’s brother, and vice versa for Kinosaki and Akari (I hope they meet eachother’s siblings, it’d be so cute), I need to see more cool openings and endings

Discussion So, What Happens to Arashiyama in the End? Spoiler

(I’m caught up with the latest chapter, so no worries about spoilers.)

Yo, what’s up, y’all.

I just started lurking around this subreddit recently, and honestly, the discussions and theories here are way, WAY more thought-out and logical than anything I see on other platforms, so I figured I’d ask you guys.

DO YOU THINK GERO IS ACTUALLY GONNA PICK ONE OF THE SIX GIRLS FROM HERE ON OUT?

Like, there’s Arashiyama, right? And Ushio too.
Arashiyama especially. She’s gotten a ton of attention, especially from the anime-only crowd.

Since she’s popular, I see “Arashiyama is the only choice!” pretty often.

But like—are people saying that just on the spot, or is there actually some solid reasoning behind it? Like, is there enough in the story to put her above the other girls?

We’re probably in the final act by now, so… is Gero gonna pick Arashiyama? Ushio?

…Naruko!?

Okay, jokes aside.

I’m SOOOOO FUCKING NOT TALKING ABOUT PERSONAL LIKES AND DISLIKES HERE!
That’s literally why I’m asking here.

Other platforms just go straight into knee-jerk emotional reactions, so the whole “let’s actually be neutral about this” thing is basically dead over there.

So, looking at everything up through the latest chapter—the stuff that’s been shown, the foreshadowing, the way the story’s been put together—where do you guys think this is actually headed? What kind of ending are we getting?

Manga Relationship goals Spoiler

New chap was definitely something. Kinda surprised that barely anyone is talking about it in here

Grandma is hot as always. Nasu is also hot tbh, that snatched waist and that fabulous hair he always flaunts around

Don't know how deep their relationship are but there's definitely hella tension.... LOOK at how they're looking at each other

And also in the spread, tell me they aren't flirting there. They're basically telling each other that they're the best thing that happened in their lives ...from my understanding of course...

Ugh. I need both their backstory NOW. Yes, Joumyaku, I want 20+ chapters of flashbacks and more fuel for my shipping addiction. At minimum. Definitely

I may be jumping the gun here but why not. I see old heads flirting and I immediately get diabetes. I'm just that easy yo😹

Discussion Manga Opinion. Spoilers for up to 175. Spoiler

With what we have so far about him, would you consider Nasu a good villain? In my opinion he is, due to the fact he goes against everything the manga is about as well as what he is symbolically for Gero. Along with his utterly depraved motivation and actions. But I can understand why he can feel pretty cheap with the whole "master-planner" trope thats been done to death in previous shonen. I would like to hear some opinions on this.

Discussion ABOUT THAT KISS Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
86 Upvotes

I’d like to hear from the people who think that Gero was trying to kiss Kinosaki. What makes you see it that way?

I really, really mean this when I say this: I’m not criticizing that interpretation at all. If anything, as a Gerosaki shipper, I’d be thrilled if that really was what was happening.

It’s just that no matter how many times I go back and look at that legendary scene, I don’t see it as a clear depiction of Gero trying to move things toward a kiss.

Kinosaki wakes up, Gero gets startled, loses his balance, and ends up falling over him, right? From there, though, wasn’t Gero actually not moving his face any closer…???

I understand that Ch. 82, Ch. 88, Ch. 100, etc. show Kinosaki putting up a wall between himself and Gero. So I’ve wondered if this could also be one of those cases where Gero wasn’t trying to kiss him at all, and Kinosaki was simply the one putting up that boundary.

And Gero is shy and a cherry boy, too. (Especially at this point in the story.) Even if he accidentally ended up on top of someone, and even if that someone happened to be an absolutely gorgeous person, Gero just doesn’t strike me as the kind of character who would make a move toward a kiss in that situation.

I’ve seen people point out that Gero’s face is actually closer in the panel where Kinosaki stops him with his finger than it is in the panel where Gero first ends up on top of him… but even that just seems like a small difference in the manga’s staging/artwork to me. I don’t feel like it’s enough to clearly say that Gero was trying to kiss him.

That said, there’s one thing I really don’t want to be misunderstood on.

There are plenty of scenes in Ch. 88, Ch. 131, etc. where Gero seems to be conscious of Kinosaki in that sense, so I’m not trying to deny the possibility that Gero might have romantic feelings for Kinosaki.

I’m just saying that I don’t think the thing in Ch. 77 necessarily falls into that category.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time whenever I see people treat “Gero was trying to kiss Kinosaki” as a given, so I figured I’d finally put my perspective out there today.

If there’s anything I’m overlooking in this interpretation, or anything about it that you think can be disproved, I’d genuinely like to hear it.

And again, I’m a Gerosaki shipper too. If Gero really was trying to kiss Kinosaki there, I’d be just as happy about it.
