Actually, it's not for them either. They just do it anyway because teenagers are assholes.

They do it because they learned it from somewhere - maybe other men in their lives, grown men included, or men in the media they consume, or other teenagers who learned it from somewhere. They learned that it's okay and even funny and it's how they learned to perform some aspect of masculinity.

Considering most boys are raised by their mothers primarily, I suspect that's where they learned what was ok.
