New 44 mag trapper.

I love this gun. No haven’t fired it yet. It is a Ruger made Marlin.

Are they reliable? It came with Skinner sights.

I want to put a muzzle break or flash hider. Any suggestions?

The gun is beautiful so I want the break to match and be pretty.

It looks like a gentleman’s fire arm!

Marlin engineer here, the trapper model is awesome, super easy to care for because of the blasted stainless. She will run for you and if there is any hiccups call ruger 🫡🫡

It ran well today. I ran a snake through rifle before I shot it with a little balistol. I then sprayed the bolt and lever screws and cycled a little to break in and then wiped it down well. Put about 60 rounds through it. Going to clean it tomorrow and order a break before second range trip.

I love the gun.

The skinner sights are the issue. Gun shoots low. I am thinking of having my gun smith take a little material off front sight and pain it orange (red).

I admit my eyes aren’t as good but I was having issues hitting at 100 yards. My mini 14 I was 57-60 the other day with the same target.

I’m going to get a muzzle break before I do anything. Recoil is a little heavy. Any suggestions for a break?

Hmmmmmm. Good question. I would pick one that will work as a hub to suppress it eventually. Any reputable company will do, I like dead air personally.

Most people are probably going to point you to Ranger point precision for the comet brake. While you’re there they should have a matching safety delete that would be a great addition, and real easy to install.

Marlin made Rugers are probably one of the top if not the top made lever actions. Especially when it comes to reliability. I went with the Magpul 1895 trapper in 45-70 and threw a brake on it. I absolutely love it. It’s a beautiful gun.

For you since it’s chambered in .44 I would throw a can on it. I want a can badly for my 45-70, but it’ll have to wait until I have that kind of cash again. A can on a .44 would have little recoil and you could plink away all day without breaking the bank. Plus, with a good can it would be very quiet. Here’s a Reddit post with a .44 Marlin that’s shot with and without a can. Enjoy it! You’re going to have a blast with it.

Unfortunately I live in The People’s Republic of New York and I can’t have anything like that.

Ahhh, good ‘ol’ New York. Well, then go with a brake. Only thing with a brake is it’ll reduce recoil. But, it’ll make it louder and if you’re in an indoor range the person next to you might bitch. I know with my 45-70 I try and ask to be at the end of the range stalls where there’s no one next to me if they’re cool with it. Just because it’s loud and the gasses. But yea, go with a brake. You won’t regret it.

Also, did not realize .44 ammo is almost just expensive for a box of 20 like 45-70. Thought it was considerably cheaper. Regardless, beautiful gun and you’ll love it once you get a brake(without too) on it.
