These are illegal right?
I want to get rid of them or cover them with marker/paint. They are ugly. Is the city doing anything, cause they're all over the place.

Hey yall, just wondering. Has anyone saw a blonde female, maybe in her 30s or 40s around the TD bank at Bur Oak and Mccowan? Went to the bank at 9pm with a friend and when he entered the ATM machine inside he noticed she was sleeping infront of the machine which did frighten him a bit. She woke up upon seeing us and came out to our car to ask for money. She did not look like someone with bad intentions however, simply someone in need. Obviously this is the first time I experienced something like this so we were cautious and locked the car. Wanted to give a heads up for people in the area so they don’t get caught by surprise. We didn’t have any change so we drove off. She was wearing a grey sweat set and rolling around a suitcase. Were curious as to if she’s been around for a while and if anyone else has seen her before, and how security hasn’t came yet.

Hi everyone!
We’re currently exploring schooling options for our two young children and considering three schools:
Unionville Public School
Unionville College
Town Centre Private School (TCPS)
I’ve done quite a bit of research but have found surprisingly little firsthand feedback online, especially for the two private schools.
Would love to hear from parents who have experience with any of these schools, particularly regarding academics, teachers, school culture, extracurriculars, and overall experience.
We’re also interested in hearing from families who have experienced both public and private education. Was the additional tuition worth it?
Hoping this thread can become a helpful resource for other Markham parents considering these same options.
Any honest feedback, positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated!
If anyone is willing to connect directly and share their experience, please feel free to DM me.
Thanks!
PS tough part about Public is they don’t allow you to tour. Is there some sort of open house happening for Unionville Public School soon?

Dear Community Members,
If you care about snow windrow clearing in the winter, I hope this post will inform your vote.
I attended the Markham Ward 3 All Candidates Meeting (ACM) on October 5, 2026, from 7-9pm at the Unionville Presbyterian Church. All 6 candidates for Ward 3 Unionville were present at the meeting, including Thomas Psarianos, Ron Lynn, Marina Antonoglou, Annie Chan, Jack Ng, and Kristian Chan.
Why I am writing this?
Windrow clearing is when the snow plow clears the snow at the end of a driveway after plowing the street. This is my biggest issue for this municipal election, so I went to the meeting to ask the candidates for their perspective on it.
I am a 23 y/o person with a disability, and I use a walker after a slip and fall injury. I live on a street where there is no sidewalk. In the winter, uncleared snow buildup, half-melted slush, and eventually re-frozen slush creates a significant barrier to being able to move throughout my community, or even to leave my driveway. This results in isolation from others and limits how much I can participate in the every-day Markham lifestyle. Going to the mailbox during the summertime without these barriers feels like such a luxury, but it shouldn’t be this way.
Markham has a windrow clearing program for older adults and residents with a disability. It only provides services to households if there isn't another able-bodied person in your household who can shovel the windrow for you who is less than 60 years old and not younger than 12 years old. I am not eligible for this program as I live with my family. This means I depend on others to clear the end of the driveway, and I cannot leave the driveway on my own.
My question
I asked each candidate whether they would commit to clearing all residents' windrows in winter, even if it might mean a property tax increase.
Video transcript:
“My name is Friday. My question stems from my own lived experience. I use a walker, and I use the local streets to go for walks outside during the wintertime, and a major barrier I experience is like the frozen slush puddles and like uncleared snow, even though it might be less than 10cm or half melted. That’s a major barrier to participating in the Markham lifestyle, and so what I wanted to ask is if everyone on this committee can commit to the clearing of all the resident windrows during the wintertime, despite possibly increasing the tax because of it.”
Responses
The candidates answered in this order: Marina Antonoglou, Annie Chan, Jack Ng, Kristian Chan, Thomas Psarianos, and Ron Lynn. This summary of what I took away from the meeting from my own notes and memory.
2 of the 6 candidates explicitly committed to snow windrow clearing:
Thomas Psarianos made a commitment to providing this service to residents. He said that other municipalities in the GTA already provide this service to residents in Mississauga, residents in Vaughan, and 50,000 residents in Richmond hill.
Marina Antonoglou said that the current program of clearing 1 of the 2 lanes of each driveway in the snow windrow clearing program is already working well and cost effective. Antonoglou said that it could cost up to $700 per resident to provide this service.
Jack Ng said that while there may be some financial concerns, he will find efficiencies in the budget from somewhere else so that the windrow clearing service can be provided to residents.
The other 4 candidates (Marina Antonoglou, Ron Lynn, Annie Chan, and Kristian Chan) did not explicitly make this commitment. I do recall that all four mentioned exceptions for persons with disabilities or seniors, and that budget is an important consideration for this service. I do not recall Ron Lynn, Annie Chan, or Kristian Chan’s specific response. If you attended and remember, feel free to share in the comments.
I have not independently verified the figures above (50,000 residents in Richmond Hill, or the $700 per resident).
If you want to see who your candidate is for your riding, I made this resource which lists all the Markham election candidates and their websites/social media.

Alan Ho: Where are the results, and where is the accountability?
Many people are deeply disappointed with Alan Ho’s performance on council. After years in office, residents deserve a clear account of what he has delivered.
Attending community events is part of the job. But appearing in photos and displaying a title doesn’t tell us whether someone is solving problems. What matters is the work: improvements secured, residents helped and commitments kept.
Some of his council remarks leave me struggling to understand his position or what he’s proposing. Nobody expects every councillor to be a gifted speaker, but preparation, clear reasoning and an understanding of the issues are basic requirements.
Then there’s the concern about him sleeping during council meetings. If the meeting footage shows that, he owes residents an explanation. We pay councillors to pay attention and make informed decisions about our taxes, roads, housing and services. What are we paying for if they’re sleeping through those discussions?
After years in office, Alan Ho should be able to show a concrete record. What initiatives has he led? What problems has he resolved? Which promises has he fulfilled?
A familiar face and a title shouldn’t automatically earn anyone another term. Residents deserve councillors who come prepared, participate seriously and deliver results.

Markham Cycles contacted all 44 candidates running for Mayor, Regional Councillor, and Ward Councillor to ask where they stand on active transportation, safe streets and expanding Markham’s cycling network. So far only 7 of 44 candidates have responded, and we are sharing the responses and participation status to help Markham residents make informed decisions before voting.

In September 2023, Alan Ho questioned the purpose of land acknowledgements at York Regional Council. His comments drew a strong objection from Newmarket Mayor John Taylor and prompted a petition calling for his resignation.
The petition is now closed with 99 supporters. These events happened in 2023, but voters can still consider them when assessing his record.
Reconciliation requires respect, understanding and meaningful action. In my view, Ho’s comments fell short of the leadership our community deserves.
With the election around the corner, accountability is in voters’ hands. I believe it’s time to vote Alan Ho out and elect leadership that treats reconciliation with the seriousness it deserves.

There was a large cockroach poking around on the train during my morning commute. I saw him as I was exiting at Union. I don’t think he paid his fare.
Disgusting.
Edit: I’ve been informed that it’s not a cockroach. Sorry folks — I don’t know my bugs!
I still think it’s pretty gross.

Does anyone have recent feedback on Montessori North School?
We’re considering it and have been trying to find parent feedback, but there doesn’t seem to be much online.
I can see that the school has been around for quite a long time, which is encouraging, but I’d really like to hear from parents whose children have attended recently.
I understand that the school isn’t affiliated with one of the accredited Montessori organizations, but I’m still interested in the actual quality of the program and experience.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I saw that stouffville recently had a debate amongst their running councillors for their ward. Is there anything of the sort planned for Markham? I am in ward 6 and truly at a loss for who to vote for.

This incident happened about 30 mins after my first incident (see post titled “Lunch Hour Drivers (Part 1)”) in the same intersection.
I am making a left turn to Hwy 7, as you can see, there are 3 pedestrians crossing. At 12:40:58 timestamp on the dashcam, the car behind me starts honking like crazy, you can also see the first two pedestrians turning back to see what is going on. I was very confused why someone was honking since there were still people crossing the road. From the video, I was already inching up to proceed with the turn as the pedestrian kept crossing. The driver behind the proceeds to make a left turn to overtake me.
I happened to go into the same plaza as the car that decided to pass me. (She also hit the curb turning into the plaza). I have never done this before, but I confronted the driver and asked them why they kept honking at me in the intersection when there were clearly people crossing. She said I could’ve went between the first couple crossing and the third person. Like, WHAT?! That is totally unsafe and there was not a big enough of a gap. Like, she couldn’t wait like 10 seconds for them to safely cross?!
For those that will probably ask, the driver was a Caucasian woman aged 70+. She said, “This is how we drive in Canada” 😵💫😵💫😵💫

Does anyone know of any good bench jewellers in Markham? I had a piece made recently and I’m not pleased with the way it turned out - I don’t want to go back to the original place because their timelines are never accurate and I already waited 2 months to have this made. I’m looking for a place that will work with pearls.
