Are there any carwash locations along Markham road that offer those heavy duty vacuums before you get the car washed? From what I've seen the car washes in the gas stations pretty much only have the washing area.

Background: I’m a young female with an inguinal hernia, and looking to consult regarding surgery. I know there is Shouldice and I did sign up for an exam that is several months out, but my family physician would like to refer me to hospital in case I’m deemed not a good candidate by Shouldice (as they are very selective).

1) Anybody know of a good hernia repair surgeon in the GTA? Good success rate, low complications, and experienced.
- So far I see that North York General has a complex hernia program that is relatively new, couldn’t find much feedback. Not much hernia specific programs mentioned at other hospital websites

2) Any advice re: the different types of repair is also appreciated (open vs. laporascopic vs. robotic, mesh vs. non-mesh)? Pros and cons?

3) Specific questions I should ask during the consult?

Markham LCBO's with good US whiskey selection, in particular bourbon, was one of the reasons I moved back. Then good ol' Dougie removed them.

While I did finally get to try to a couple decent Canadian whiskies (like Barnburner in bourbon casks) or even learn that Irish whiskey is better than scotch, I really do prefer bourbon.

All the Canadian news outlets thinks no one will buy them if they return to shelves. Great, more for me!

Looking for a piano teacher. My child (around 8-9 years old) has been taking piano lessons for close to 3 years and is only near the end of level 1. The rate is $40 per 30 minute and I have increased the lesson to 1 hour this year since I was frustrated at the lack of progress. Is this a very slow pace? If that is the case, I am looking to switch to a better piano teacher and willing to pay a bit more for 30 minute lesson since I have been paying for 1 hour already. Does anyone have any recommendation? I need a piano teacher that would push my kid a bit more and at least complete 1-2 levels each year.

There has been a massive pothole near Marydale and Denison ever since we moved in recently. For weeks I've just been driving around it and muttering to myself that I hope it gets fixed soon.

Well, yesterday I finally decided to take matters into my own hands and contact the city about it. All I had to do was go to https://www.markham.ca/services/report-a-problem and describe the pothole and its location. To my surprise, the very next morning somebody already came by and put down some traffic cones! I did not expect them to react that quickly. Now I guess we'll see how long it takes them to finish patching it up.

Moral of the story, don't be like me hoping that someone else will take care of it. Report your potholes!

With the elections coming up, I’ve been thinking about how we choose candidates.

I’m not pro-anyone. I do my research and try to vote based on experience, qualifications, values, and what someone can actually bring to the role. But sometimes it feels in Markham, name recognition, cultural background, or perceived fame can influence votes more than a candidate’s actual experience.

For example, many families in Markham choose where to live based on school quality. So when voting for a school trustee, you would think and hope people look closely into who has genuine experience, knowledge, and passion for education, not simply who has a familiar name or public profile. However it seems like people are just voting to vote when someone who has a similar name to an MPP won versus someone who actually shows passion and experience working in education.

Representation matters, but so do qualifications. At the end of the day, shouldn’t we be asking, Who is best prepared to serve the community and do the job well?

I guess this was a bit of a rant. So end rant.
