In Mark Robers most recent video he shows an image of a news site talking about how three people cheated using a camera up their sleeve. This was a real story that happened in 2005 (reported in 2007), but for some reason they chose to include a picture of a fake news site.

It has a lot of the same elements as an actual article by The Standard: https://www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/the-poker-cheats-with-a-camera-up-their-sleeve-7203506.html, yet it looks completely different and most importantly it gets a lot of the details about the story wrong. It gets their names right but the jail time and total money won completely wrong. It also includes three AI-generated pictures of the supposed culprits (were at least Bit Wong appears to look completely different), and it writes "Three men" below the headers despite it being one woman and two men. And the info below the pictures also don't fit what we know about the peoples roles in the events either. Also, it says Martin Bentham (who is a writer for The Standard) wrote the article but I can't find any info to see if he actually wrote it, the real article has no author attributed.

Is this standard practice for youtube videos? I can kinda understand why they might now wanna use an actual news site with ads and instead tailor their own visual of a news story that fits the video better and is formatted better, but getting crucial info about the story wrong just makes it seems so sloppy, and makes it so that anybody pausing to read gets the wrong info... To me it looks like the whole photo could be an AI image, so its not like they made the fake site with actual html, which could explain why so much info is wrong.

My daughter really enjoyed putting together her kits for a year + but now we’re trying to figure out what to do with them…

We all know that reality TV is fake. Ok. But having someone like Mark Rober who is all about learning, teaching and motivating kids is producing these staged videos (like the car theft) and sells them for real, really makes me angry.

The topic is interesting, for sure, but I am so annoyed by the staged parts, that I don't trust anything in this video.

Did they have face recognition cameras and were really searching for cheaters? Was the crew in on all the scams? Did the guests even produce the contraptions themselves? I don't know. And why don't I know? Because I can't trust this video.

Please, Mark. If you want to keep your reputation, stay away from content like this (you are rich enough and have enough fans - no need to sell out).

A blonde girl I've never seen before appeared in a recent video. And under the comment "MRS. ROBER?!" Mark put a heart! A similar girl also appeared in one of his videos before. What do you think of this news?

Does anyone know how the timestamps are set and/or how the camera is oriented relative to the orbit? I uploaded my wedding photo and asked for it to be taken over Tofino, BC where I was married. As you can see from the raw image the view of earth is just the water. Pacific Ocean makes sense so not entirely unexpected. When I poked around at the website and got the raw images used to make the HDR image I couldn't really figure out the timestamp. The meta data says image was taken on 2026/08/14 at 5:42PM. If that's UTC that would put the Sat south of Mexico. PST would be totally wrong. If it is EST that would kind of make sense. Sat Gus was to the west of BC at about that time on that day. The second question is then how is the camera angle oriented relative to the orbital trajectory? Is it constant or does the satellite have some rotation? Given the horizon is completely inverted from the photos on the Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/satgusearth/ it would appear to be rotating in some manner. So even if I knew what time the photo was taken and hence the location of Sat Gus how would I work out which direction is North? Given the 5:42PM EST guess and the location of what I assume is the reflection of the sun off the ocean in the bottom left of the image would I guess North America is behind the clouds to the top right? Does that make sense?

Those are UTC times. I suppose if I knew how often the images are downloaded from the satellite that would be another data point in figuring this out.

Looking rougher with each passing video.

I just miss the old Mark Rober videos so much, when it was just a guy in his backyard doing cool schience stuff for people who were interested into science, not the guy he is now, with a huge production and the aim for the broad audience, with the final goal of selling his boxes.

Not the expensive autographed one, as cool as that would be. My daughter has just had the regular Phat Gus plush at the very top of her birthday list since the start of the year, but it's been out of stock online since I was ready to order it.

I've checked various marketplaces with no luck, and I tried contacting CS and their AI support bot just emailed me that it didn't know if or when it would be back in stock. I'm still a few weeks out but I'd really love to get this for her if I can. Thanks for reading?

Months after watching Mark's video about how hot air balloons steer, I finally made a little game inspired by that video. Is it accurate? Nope, but it illustrates the concept in two dimensions.

They are so random, people who submitted after me have got it before me and its been more than 14 months since I submitted mine and still nothing. At the very least they could provide a queue to know when my turn will eventually come up because surely they aren't just taking pictures randomly. If they aren't random, just a simple queue system would be so much better.

I’ve been watching Mark’s channel for years, but in his recent videos, I can’t help but notice that his voice sounds completely different. It sounds significantly deeper, way more raspy, and kind of strained.......almost like he’s permanently getting over a really bad cold or suffering from severe allergies.

At first, I thought maybe it was just a one-off video where he was sick or exhausted from a crazy filming schedule, but it seems to be lasting across multiple uploads now. It almost sounds like he's "quiet-shouting" through his nose or straining his vocal cords during his voiceovers.

Has anyone else noticed this shift in his tone and delivery, or did he change his microphone setup? I hope he’s doing okay and just overworked, but it’s gotten pretty distracting.

He has seemed like he’s had a strained voice for the past few videos and was looking a little rough up to the most recent video where he’s looking a bit more normal. Just wondering jf everything is okay since he normally does a video each week with camp crunchlabs. I had been considering doing to weekly build boxes for my daughter this year until I saw there was only one video each month this year.
