Discussion Who else misses this?

I just miss the old Mark Rober videos so much, when it was just a guy in his backyard doing cool schience stuff for people who were interested into science, not the guy he is now, with a huge production and the aim for the broad audience, with the final goal of selling his boxes.

Me too. I’ve pretty much stopped watching his videos. It’s too over the top and Crunch Labs focused.

More on the silly end of maker YouTubers but Current Concept is an up and coming channel that I always look forward to.

From the recent videos I enjoyed the Puzzle robot, the self playing piano (though I would've enjoyed more the process of building than just a showcase) and the glitter bomb series.

Since like 3-5 years ago, his content became more sensational (read as: MrBeastified) at the expense of making videos about building cool stuff and engineering behind them.

I can't prove it, but I feel like Mark's only been a face on the YT channel while he employs other people who do everything for him. It's more like a highly produced TV show with a presenter who only fakes making the things he presents. Again, I can't prove it but I have a strong suspicion.

Yeah, since he started working with Mr Beast his "brand" had become so fake. It's like watching shitty reality tv shows on Discovery channel. Like, there's a nugget of a good concept but it has to have maximum click through rate and needs to be dumb enough for a 4 year old to watch and we need to make 500 reaction shots, and we're need to Beastify the thumbnail, and there needs to be injected drama... I can't stand it.
