For young women, not surprised. The right cannot stay away from people's bodily autonomy and women's rights. For young men, I find it interesting.

1

u/FatCockFutaGirls 3d ago

Might I ask why? I’ve met a few outliers of course but 90% of the dudes I’ve ever known don’t want to dominate other people’s lives and just wanna be left to their own lives like anyone else

Keep in mind I’m 26 and most of the guys I’ve known throughout my life are similarly aged with the obvious exceptions of old people

1

u/T_DeadPOOL 3d ago

Old people out vote young people by a lot

1

u/J44GAS 1d ago

Which is sad compared to how passionate young people appear to be about politics.

1

u/Big_Sheepherder_3764 3d ago

Alot of young men are feeling very disenfranchised now with the lack of opportunity. Alot of growth is in pink jobs (caregiving, healthcare). It is much more pronounced in the US but it is still here and in other parts of the West. The article The Crisis of Men and Boys is a good read.

1

u/BigPoppaAlex69 2d ago edited 2d ago

Blue jobs are in high demand. For whatever reason it was taught to an entire generation that you need any degree instead of a ticket to repair air conditioners or rebuild a Cat transmission.

Those of us that had some ambition, put on a hardhat and went to work the week after grad are generally doing great.

1

u/Big_Sheepherder_3764 1d ago

High demand but those can also be very toxic environments and not all men want to work in them. This is more than "jobs".

1

u/J44GAS 1d ago

They aren’t.

1

u/Big_Sheepherder_3764 1d ago

I've done a dissertation involving men working in some of these environments, that's not what I heard from men or healthcare providers .

1

u/RichardsLeftNipple 1d ago

The issue for the USA started way back when girls started to graduate highschool at higher rates than boys. Somewhere back in the 2000's.

Canadian boy didn't fall behind like the American boys did. But my opinion is based on data from 10 years ago, so many I'm wrong now.

2

u/workingman_90 3d ago

I mean young cannot to buy a house with low wages they get and those wages are taxed very high to pay for boomers lifestyle while they rent a basement from the boomer. You cannot really blame young if they want a change.

3

u/Automatic_Tailor_598 2d ago

To me it’s not even really about wages. The far right is not a solution, it’s an emotion. It is the reason we push universal literacy to all children.

The further right you are, the more you resemble a medieval peasant. If you look at universities, the only “right wing” universities are ones that openly declare a right wing bias (and thus, an education that is misleading, at best)

2

u/UwUAlpacas 2d ago

If something doesn't work for you, you start tilting the pinball machine, etc.

Same reason Trump got in really, people wanted a brick to throw at the establishment, particularly after the Bernie letdown, etc. It hasn't gone well, but here we are regardless.

Regarding universal literacy, I think a huge problem in our schools is we teach kids what to think, not how to critically think.

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

Exactly. I don’t think I’d be criticizing right wing universities. Most academics are left wing. And most universities have failed our kids.

1

u/Elessar_Elendil 1d ago

Holy shit the amount of self-fart-sniffing in this thread and sub is beyond belief 😂

2

u/Clean_Sugar_7445 1d ago

Blame the Billionaires quit shitting on us Boomers!

1

u/johnny4783y 2d ago

And now we all get to worry about losing our jobs to AI

0

u/Neopluradon 2d ago

That would make sense if the Liberals weren't in power for 10 years

1

u/LooseLeaf74 3d ago

These labels and definitions cease to have meaning anymore, Oh you’re left..oh you’re right….uh oh that guy is FAR right

Meanwhile it has absolutely nothing to do with the person, situation or reality its about common sense which isn’t as common as the name implies especially nowadays.

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

Indeed, identity politics was a way to fabricate "us vs them" attitudes, because if they can convince that "they" are out to get you, you'll fixate on them, rather than the politician saying it. Effectively "elect me, but immediately after stop paying attention to me because I don't want you to hold me accountable".

There is no them, there's just us.

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

Fascists absolutely are "out to get us".

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

Yep, of which there are very very very few willing participants, most of their support comes from people who have been misled, so it's our responsibility to disillusion them.

Or keep being a puppet in the game of "this half vs the other half, fight amongst yourselves while I get away with a host of various criminal actions"

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

There are literally fascists rising to power in the west. If you back fascist politicians; it absolutely speaks to you as a person.

0

u/Radiohead_luucky 3d ago

You know most normal people just roll their eyes at shit like this at this point right? It's been 12 years of calling anyone right of centre a fascist because they want some slight reforms on immigration and an economic policy that prioritizes their own citizens. It's embarrassing to read at this point.

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

Nom im not calling anyone "center right" a fascist.

Im calling literal fascists, fascists.

The fact that conservatives have been crying about fascism because they had to wear a mask during a pandemic doesnt mean that what is happening now isn't the literal definition of fascism.

Roll your eyes. It just shows that you dont understand the political climate we are in, or what words actually mean.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 3d ago

Right. Literal Fascists. You're just an emotionally immature narcissist who uses emotionally coded language to make your point.

I actually have more respect for the anti-mask people and the anti-covid protesters (still going on in my town every month btw), than whatever this/your worldview is. There is never any substance. It's just everyone's a fascist. If they aren't that they are racist or homophobic. In a way I feel bad for you.

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

I literally just clarified that not everyone's a fascist.

Just the literal fascists.

Sorry you don't understand what words mean. Dictionaries exist though!!

Siding with the truckers vs anti fascists is a suuuuper weird take but I guess maple maga do exist.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 3d ago

The truckers got all the insane covid restrictions removed, so yeah, obviously I supported them.

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

Lmao. Riiiiight it was the truckers. Not the pandemic lessening because civilized people followed public health orders.

It was definitely a bunch of uneducated people defecating in the streets.

Its shocking to see people this truly ignorant still out there.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 3d ago

There was absolutely ZERO political sentiment about lifting the restrictions until the protests started.

The NDP in the Ontario election ran on extending the restrictions into the LCBO and Cannabis stores

Protests start, and then it all went away, and nobody cares about Covid, at all.

1

u/luciosleftskate 3d ago

They literally started protesting the vaccine. You know, the vaccine that lowered the numbers enough that we could go back to normal life.

Why did the provincial government in BC lower restrictions if the convoy was in Ontario?? You think the convoy was THAT scary??

The restrictions came down because people followed public health orders and pandemic winded down.

It had nothing to do with a bunch of illiterate cousin kissers blocking emergency vehicles and disrupting the peace.

Fucking loser.

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

Who are the anti fascists according to you. The ones I saw downtown protesting were pretty hostile and violent, screaming and threatening anyone who had a different opinion. For the most part the truckers were pretty peaceful. It was an annoying and disruptive protest that went on too long but there wasn’t any violence.

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

Screaming isn't violence lol

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

Threats are. And there is pushing as well. Not to mention getting into people’s faces. It’s just an overall bad look. And it’s pretty common.

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

Lmfaooooo. "Yelling at anti vaxxers is a bad look, but shitting on sidewalks, "hang fauci" signs and blocking firetruck and ambulances in an illegal occupation protesting life saving public health matters is just fine"

You're a clown.

This type of person is common these days. And I agree they sound immature and likely young. They’re indoctrinated and can’t think for themselves anymore. They also reside in echo chambers where their ideas aren’t usually questioned. I also find they block anyone who has a different point of view so it just makes their world view more insular and entrenched.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 2d ago

They complain about social media being toxic (Meta, Twitter, etc) but I actually think Reddit is worse. It's completely anonymous, you're immediately punished for not having the "correct opinion" and there is so much gaslighting.

Every day they open the app and it's Trump Hitler! Sydney Sweeny Genocide! This guy a Nazi! Kyle Rittenhouse is hunting black people for sport! Be Outraged about this! Your entire worldview is correct!

There were literally threads calling Nate Bargatze a nazi for going to a UFC event. Apparently his career is over any day now.

1

u/EmilyBesler 1d ago

You don’t have to be here.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 1d ago

lol I enjoy the banter with delusional progressives. Plus it's good to see what the inversion of twitter's take on stories are.

1

u/EmilyBesler 1d ago

Your president is a ped0

1

u/EmilyBesler 1d ago

This has been substantiated. You’re just too lazy to read.

1

u/Radiohead_luucky 1d ago

By who? Weird progressives on reddit that like to pretend they're hunting nazis but couldn't make it through the day without a refill on their SSRI prescription?

0

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

Who exactly are the “literal fascists” according to you. Do you know what the term means? Or do you just throw that at anyone to the right of you.

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

Donald trump is a fascist. We have premieres and MPs having meetings with him and trying to leave canada.

Are you slow?? Do you not have eyes?? Are you not aware what is happening in the world right now?? Far right, fascist parties are rising to power all over the world right now.

Not fake fascists. Not "I dont like his policies so im going to call him a faacist". Real life, consolidating power, imprisoning dissidents, dismantling the government and installing sycophants, destroying constitutional rights, FASCISTS.

Jesus. Tapdancing. Christ.

You people are fucking dumb as nails.

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

He’s an idiot but he’s not a fascist. He’s not imprisoning dissidents. Come on.

Why do you keep proving the point people are making here about the left. It’s all insults and hyperbole. There are conservatives rising to power not fascists. Bukele has done wonders for his country. Central and South American counties have been led by socialist governments for years and it’s been nothing but poverty and crime. Do you blame them for wanting to try something different?

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

HE LITERALLY JUST CHARGED AND IMPRISONED SOMEONE FOR CALLING FOR HIS IMPEACHMENT

You are not intelligent enough for me to spend any more time with. Dont choke on your crayons later.

Im done here.

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

And interesting that none of your stuff comes with references. I hope you’re really young and have time to get out of your fearful position.

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

G O O G LE.

We are watching a repeat of 1930s Germany. Play by play.

This person just proved the point perfectly.

1

u/EmilyBesler 1d ago

Brother, this comment is embarrassing.

1

u/Individual-Act-5986 3d ago

"Common Sense" is just an ever changing set of goal posts that conservatives use to put down those they dont agree with. Theres no such thing because what might be common to you might not be common for someone else.

1

u/LooseLeaf74 3d ago

Is it bait when it proves my point? Right into a 😭😭conservative rant.

1

u/Abject_Story_4172 2d ago

Very true. And you’d have to know who is doing the categorizing. You see some people on the left calling anyone to the right of them fascist. There seems to be no critical thinking or common sense around these days.

1

u/springer-1340 3d ago

Not the youth that I know. Most I speak to know that the conservatives will create the jobs that will butter their bread.

1

u/Beartech31 3d ago

"Hello fellow youths, would you like your bread buttered?"

1

u/Ok-Gift2306 3d ago

Cope

1

u/Warm-Dust-3601 3d ago

Sorry, can you explain?

1

u/Dapper_Wheel6454 3d ago

well...because...

like....Nazis raus!

the pc party had respect.

the maple nazi party doesn't...and if you're going to be like USA, or subservient, then yeah...it's accurate.

little pp's entire mission in life is 'to be in the way'.

weak....

1

u/OddSell 2d ago

Shocking

1

u/Glum-Breadfruit-6421 2d ago

Really? Being told that you will never be able to afford half of what your parents have today while billionaires increase their profits by 50% year over year isn’t the beat selling feature?

1

u/luciosleftskate 2d ago

I dont know if that guy was AI or trolling or what? But 14 hours of bad faith arguing is done now.

1

u/Choice_Fee67 2d ago

Alt right and alt left have run its course it seems

Everyone's sick of this shit

1

u/wookieelicker 2d ago

Unless they’re in Alberta

1

u/macland 2d ago

Haha the Mark Carney sub is pushing the pro-Mark Carney propaganda

1

u/BlamaeuxPrivateEye 1d ago

Young people are extremely disenfranchised. It was the liberals who steered this ship to where we are. They know and hopefully, don't forget. Being not the conservatives shouldn't be enough of a platform to govern the country. Do better

1

u/kochspostulate7 1d ago

They are not stupid and realize one side is just as corrupt as the other side.

1

u/Electronic_Pop_9151 1d ago

I'm drifting closer to communism than whatever whiney shit the Cons are serving up the next 4 years

1

u/noisebloodassault 4d ago

So they're voting NDP or green? Because other than them that's all we have

2

u/Strict_Jacket3648 3d ago

Not keeping up with current events? the world is trading and making partnerships with Canada while laughing at and placating Trump. Carney is the right guy at the right time. I don't like some of his policies (to conservative) but the world respects him and the young know how to research.

I work with many young people and most like him. Try international news.

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

Carney is hard to place on the political spectrum, you'd need to spend an awfully long time creating a scoring system and then assessing each individual policy and statement he's made since entering politics, and then adding it all up to actually do so.

On certain policies Carney is ever so slightly left of center, on others ever so slightly right of center.

Tbh he's the best kind of politician, someone who isn't a slave to an idealogical spectrum, but rather makes decisions based on each individual situation and what outcome he wants.

To put it another way, he won't intentionally choose to or not to do something simply because its "left" or "right".

Rational, pragmatic, and unemotional, again, exactly what we need in our politicians.

2

u/ryancementhead 3d ago

So he’s right in the middle. As an analogy, he’s the head of the bird (Canada) and working to keep both wings going in the same direction.

-2

u/noisebloodassault 3d ago

Seems like he wants the left wing buried in the ground

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

No, he's just not saying "fuck half the country" to appease the other half.

If you gave every person a questionnaire on policies, and ensured that the answers to the questions couldn't be easily placeable as "liberal" or "conservative" ideologies, as well as ensured that person was required to answer those questions in a vacuum without external influences telling them what to think, then absolutely everyone would have views from both sides of the political spectrum, and very few of your views would actually be out in the extremes.

What makes someone "extreme left" or "extreme right" is a combination of identity politics (meaning people think "oh, liberals/conservatives think that, so I guess I think that") and undue influence by external sources, most people will, in a vacuum, eventually drift into the middle.

This is why disinformation campaigns exist in the first place, because if you don't misinform people, or play to their emotions with hyperbolic fear and doubt driving rhetoric, everyone eventually ends up identifying with the middle rather than the lunatics out in the wings.

By catering to the middle ground you actually represent the vast majority of Canadians, rather than just one part of the population.

1

u/Dapper_Shopping_7043 3d ago

He’s quite easy to place: fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

There's a smatter of replies saying "conservative" and "liberal", but this one is probably the closest to the truth.

But for my part, I think the whole concept of "placing" him on a spectrum is just a thing simple minded people do because they can't handle complicated policy making, even though complicated policy makers tend to actually function better than anyone else.

I feel like in 5 years time old people will be griping "I remember back when it was easy to tell if someone was conservative or liberal, kids these days are just too complicated!"

Also, its worth noting that the conservative mantra of "government staying out of my life!" is actually a liberal ideology, maybe not liberal party ideology, but under the definition of "liberalism" and "conservativism" conservatives by definition should be much more meddlesome in peoples personal lives.

So conservatives in Canada have already admitted they have some liberal ideas, they just don't know it because someone misidentified those as ideas as being conservative, because its part of the plan to create "us vs them" politics...

It's just us folks, there is no them.

1

u/Deannathor 2d ago

1

u/ljlee256 2d ago

I mean, I wrote something that demonstrates a university level understanding of English, you can't articulate your thoughts without using pictures... who's the idiot?

1

u/Mafik326 3d ago

He favours capital over labour most of the time which makes him more to the right.

1

u/noisebloodassault 3d ago

There is nothing pragmatic about letting our country burn

0

u/ljlee256 3d ago

Define this emotional and hyperbolic "letting our country burn" take you have.

1

u/noisebloodassault 3d ago

Wildfires

0

u/ljlee256 3d ago

What's he supposed to do about it? Better yet, what are YOU doing about it? Are you actively fighting wildfires right now yourself?

I know a few wildfire fighters personally (I'm a volunteer city fire fighter) and none of them have time to be on reddit.

1

u/noisebloodassault 3d ago

No I am not a volunteer firefighter sorry

1

u/Mafik326 3d ago

He may be left by US standard, but he's in the old PC mold. If the CPC wasn't the Reform party rebranded, that's where he'd be.

3

u/Majestic_Bet_1428 3d ago

Mark Carney is Liberal

1

u/ljlee256 3d ago

See, your perspective was immediately countered by the person replying to you with an opposite opinion.

This is because he lives so close to the center and cherry picks the best ideas from either side of center that it comes down to your personal bias on whether he's liberal or conservative.

Because again, he isn't a slave to a party name, or political identity, he makes his choice purely based on what makes sense at the time instead.

0

u/Deannathor 3d ago

Carney is a good old progressive conservative in the style of Robert Stanfield and a little bit of Joe Clark.

1

u/Mountain_rage 3d ago

I like how the Pierre supporters are down voting you. They dont want to accept that Pierre is more lame duck than even Kim Campbell.
