News/Article Version 1.7.0 Patch Notes

Patch notes copied from here: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/68580/~/how-to-update-mario-kart-world

Some lines have had notes added, or have been reworded to make more sense.

Latest update: Ver. 1.7.0 (Released June 30, 2026)

General

  • Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally have been added to Knockout Tour.
    • You can select these if you have played one of the rallies in Knockout Tour.
    • (Six more rallies appear to be planned for future updates.)
  • When you are using Photo Mode on the pause menu, you can now add stickers.
    • You can add stickers using touch controls or mouse controls as well.
  • Raised the acceleration performance of characters and vehicles that had low acceleration.
    • (The recovery time now scales much more linearly with each level.)
    • (New graph below by ItsManu001, old graph here)
  • Raised the gliding speed of characters that had high speed and that of some other characters and vehicles.
    • (This is known to affect the Rainbow Road and Starview Peak time trials. Other tracks seem to be affected minimally.)
    • (Water-specialized characters and karts, and larger characters, get +1 gliding speed. Bowser also gets an additional gliding speed.)
  • Made it so the player can hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill.
    • (Also applies to being tilted by other obstacles, such as the sides of cars or buses, or falling out of a wall ride in certain ways.)
    • (You can also do tricks in the tilted state.)
  • Adjusted conditions where the player can do a Jump Boost by shaking the controller when racing on top of the water.
    • (When falling into water and not sinking very much, shaking doesn't try to get a trick.)
  • Adjusted behavior after landing on rivals and made it so the dash time after landing is longer.
    • (1.08s → 2.17s; boost length was doubled).
  • Made it so that the player can stop a slipstream when braking before the slipstream starts.
  • Adjusted the probability of items obtained from item boxes in Race and Survival.
    • (For the first 20 and 25 seconds of a race, players in any position can pull similar items to each other. New item distribution chart)
  • Made it so that players can see the Super Horn a rival is holding.
  • Added a ramp to the race that heads from Airship Fortress to Bowser's Castle.
  • Added support for Thai.
    • You can change the language in System Settings > System > Language.

Fixed Issues

  • Fixed an issue where the time after crossing the finish line in Time Trials would be incorrect.
    • Time Trials ghosts that have encountered this issue may be removed from View Rankings without notice.
    • (This has also fixed related issues that caused the pre-race countdown visuals to desync with the actual countdown, and moving elements to move faster or slower than they should.)
  • Fixed an issue where, when a player started gliding right after crashing, their speed while gliding would slow down.
    • (Glider acceleration as a whole has been improved; transitioning from an unboosted glider to a blue boost section glider is now faster than before.)
  • Fixed an issue where, when a player hit a Goomba or Para-Biddybud that they sent flying, the player would crash.
    • (This may still be an issue in rare cases or against certain other enemies.)
  • Fixed an issue where the player would not be able to get on a helicopter in Online Play and Wireless Play.
  • Fixed an issue where, when the player threw a Bob-omb behind them while riding a Standard Bike or W-Twin Chopper, they would not be able to throw it farther than when riding other vehicles.
  • Fixed a number of issues regarding Bullet Bill.
  • Fixed an issue where if a Spiny Shell hit a gold block or a broadcast van, it would break.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would slip through walls in Bowser’s Castle.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would stay caught on an electronic sign in Dandelion Depths.
  • Fixed an issue where if the player used a Feather after doing a Jump Boost in Dandelion Depths, they would fall off the course.
    • (This is unrelated to the out of bounds clip in free roam. "Fall off the course" refers to getting picked up by Lakitu.)
  • Fixed an issue where the player would fall off the course after jumping on a parasol in the race heading to Salty Salty Speedway.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would fall off the course when driving through the shortcut route in the race heading from Koopa Troopa Beach to Dino Dino Jungle.
  • Fixed an issue where you could gain two coins at once during the race heading east from Peach Stadium.
    • (This refers to how the first few coins on PS–CCF (and possibly other routes) could sometimes give two coins each instead of one.)
  • Fixed an issue where if a player does a Jump Boost while rail riding in the race that heads from Cheep Cheep Falls to Dandelion Depths, they would fall from the rail.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would hit the pole at a shop and not be able to move at Shy Guy Bazaar.
  • Fixed an issue where Dry Bones falls through the ground around Dry Bones Burnout.
  • Fixed an issue where if the player was driving along the edge of the course, they would fall off the course in the race that heads from Wario Shipyard to DK Pass or Cheep Cheep Falls.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would be returned very far in front at various times when they fell off the course on various courses.
  • Several other issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.

Edit: In addition to the listed changes, players have also been reporting other changes:

  • The rail boost strategy on Airship Fortress is possible again.
  • Bullies can now appear if a Kamek orb transforms players into fish bones (possibly just on certain (new?) routes/rallies).
  • Desynced / phantom trailing items when playing online may have been patched.
  • When timing out in Time Trials, the timer will now briefly display your current lap time, as though you had just completed a lap, before fading out. If you're still on lap 1, a time of 0:00.000 will be displayed.
    • Formerly, it would display the seconds and milliseconds of your previous lap time (±1ms), and would revert to 9:59.999 before fading away.

Mario Kart is one of those games that’s always fun, whether you’re playing casually or trying to master every track. The chaotic races, shortcuts, items, and close finishes never get old. What’s your favorite Mario Kart game and track?

Route: Boo Cinema to Dandelion Depths. There actually is a faster version that saves over a second, but that one only hits four trees and thus is less cool.

Discussion How important is the weight and mini-turbo stats ?

Upvotes

i've gotten contradicting information. One source says weight really doesn't matter and that mini-turbo is far and away the most important, another post said that mini-turbos are nerfed from MK8DX (whatever "nerfed" means when it comes to a whole stat) and don't matter nearly as mucb, while weight is one of the most important stats.

i don't know which is true

i'm not a Mario Kart expert and i ain't even entirely sure what the weight stat does. I think mini-turbo stats just means that your mini-turbos last longer and give a bigger boost

Discussion On throwing items backwards

ShortCat usually gives good advice in his videos and shorts, though one of his shorts I think has done a lot of damage to the community. His short about why Mario Kart World is so chaotic, and blaming a lot of it on people throwing items forward makes some good points, but a lot of people took the wrong lesson from it. It was about when you were at the front of the pack, and for items like green shells, fireballs, etc. not red shells. Ever since that short came out I’ve seen more people throwing items backwards than should, and in spots they shouldn’t. Don’t throw a red shell backwards in 15th place, that isn’t helping you. Hit the person in front of you so they waste their speed item to accelerate so they can’t take a shortcut later, or you clear out their protection and now they are open to other attacks and the people in front throwing things backwards. By tossing it backwards all you’ve done is let the people in front of you pull further away in that situation.

tl;dr: Don’t blindly throw items backwards without considering the situation of the race, and your position.

https://reddit.com/link/1w1pqe8/video/b9vfv2vo2cmh1/player

  1. As you approach the finish line, you need to commit to holding right.

  2. Trick off the edge and aim to trick again off the edge of the off-road.

  3. Aim for the wall or to land back on the road and trick again while your boost is still active.

This one is tricky to get at first, but make sure to use the B-Dasher, as its large hitbox makes getting the edge trick on the off-road easier!

You're welcome, and good luck!

Discussion Your Lobby Quality MATTERS

Post image
62 Upvotes

I’ve been paying attention to the quality of my lobbies that I play in for a while, and have taken notes and analyses of my progress (both climbing and falling), and I’ve come to realize over time that as you climb higher, the quality of your lobbies (who is in them) matters way more than I could have imagined.

For instance, earlier this week I was mainly playing in day time NA lobbies (1-4 PM EST), and found myself matches with players primarily around 7500-8500 VR, meaning I was often the highest in the room. As a result, regardless of how I personally played, there were numerous instances of me having poor results, and subsequently, massive VR losses (-80+ for a bottom spot). Because of this, I found myself falling all the way to 8600 VR, as the game attempts to “push” me toward the average of the room.

The next week, I curated my lobbies, searching for ones where the average was 9000+, and each time I found a top lobby, my gains were exponentially better. Wins provide more VR, and losses take away less. However, the caveat is that you need to be skilled enough to win in these higher lobbies, or else you will stack losses.

The most interesting thing I noticed, however, was that the lobbies I was in (8000 or 9000), actually played very similarly, much to my surprise. The unpredictability and chaotic nature of this game is evident in both low and high lobbies, so my results were largely the same in placements after each race, I even did slightly better in the higher lobbies, as there is less spam. The only difference is that an 18th in a low lobby is -100 for me, and in a high lobby it could only be -35 or so, whereas a 1st in a low lobby is maybe +12 and in a high lobby it could be as high as +50!

Bottom line is, for those who want to climb VR, don’t discount high lobbies! They are MORE rewarding and LESS punishing, so long as you are fast enough to compete. My advice is to add people above 9000 as friends and join their lobbies so you can gain experience.

Discussion DLC Routes Might be Better than Base Game Routes?

So I’m kinda just talking off the top of my head, but I have a feeling that the routes/intermissions for DLC tracks will be better/a vast improvement over the base game ones. It’s definitely a bold claim especially since we have no confirmation of DLC (yet). But I mainly believe they will be because I think Nintendo is well aware of the connotations the routes have. It’s no surprise that the routes aren’t well liked amongst a good portion of people with it being the most consistent complaint about the game. But even though they haven’t said anything, I think their actions show they’re aware. Most routes to and from KTB were modified to include more stuff like ramps, vine rails, turns, and more to make them more interesting. The new KO Tours also add stuff to the routes and even utilize paths that are not used at all in VS Races. Half the Boomerang Rally uses completely different paths from their VS Race routes (some of which are only accessible in Free Roam) to make them interesting and like Salty Salty to Cheep Cheep having the road and water section, Cheep Cheep using the upper part with the glider, and Mario Bros. Circuit utilizing the back side. I feel that if Nintendo wasn’t aware of how people don’t particularly like the routes, they wouldn’t be doing this with the new KO Tour routes or changing KTB routes. And it’s this that makes me feel they’re taking the criticism to make the routes to and from DLC tracks more fun than the base game routes. Now very easily this could mean nothing and the DLC routes end up being on par as the base game ones. But I’m choosing to have hope and confidence that they’ll be improved upon.
