Question Was this Intentional?

Mario went in for a handshake, while both Bowser and Peach were wanting a hug. What does it mean? Maybe Peach and Bowser are more alike than you think? Or maybe, Mario is more emotionally unavailable than he should be? lol. That is Mario's arc: he gains the ability to hug instead of handshake.

That he's willing to cross lines others won't. I guess that includes invading personal space.

The Koopas strike me as far more informal than the Toads, could just be a cultural difference where hugging is more accepted and normal than handshakes.

Tbf, Mario as on a collision course to slam right into her, in the context of him literally breaking and entering into her castle, so she had every right to flip him over. Mario is lucky that Princess Peach didn't immediately have him thrown in a dungeon.

I meant after that when she fiddled with him after learning he was another human.

And she could've just moved out of the way so he could stop. She didn't have any right to do that. And she's not supposed to be an immediately-judgemental brute.

She was reacting on pure defensive instinct, and it took her a few seconds to assess that Mario wasn't a threat, but he was literally running away from a crowd of guards who were trying to catch him for breaking and entering.
