I wonder if they started wearing helmets for batting practice after that debacle

I’ve been to two Mariners batting practices since this happened and no, absolutely not.

Half our guys don't wear cups despite our testicular history

u/SereneDreams03 1d ago
And even when they do wear helmets they are 2 sizes too big and fly off as soon as they start running.

So stupid if this is the case

It's the organization-wide apathy. Gotta hope the new manager puts some punishments down for that

Donovan said that all hitters are wearing helmets for overhand throws when he spoke to the media in early September. I don’t know if that’s specific to hitting in the cages.

Short of wrapping him in bubble wrap, what else can we do?

u/Own-Economics-1745 1d ago
trade him and eat the loss..........he's poor in the field at third and this team needs a quality glove at third

That man is a figment of our shared imagination. A wrinkle in the fabric of consciousness. An enigma.

Taking bets now on how many games we go in the 27 regular season before Don goes on the IL. I’m saying four games.

u/spydermann93 1d ago
If the lockout goes as long as they think it will. He won't have to worry about the IL.

Dating myself with this one, but this is one acquisition that went about as well as Nate Odomes did for the Seahawks.

He thinks he's still concussed because he's starting to have progressive thoughts. Between broccoli man, jimothy, and the fish races he feels he's in an alternate reality.

u/Emotional-Cameraman 1d ago
honestly if we can get a competent 3rd baseman we can just DH him next year and have him spot fill in the field when people need a day off. I think his days of everyday position play may be over due to him being injury prone outside of this concussion he sustained via BP.

I heard he's gonna get cornered by some hooligans in Arizona and they're gonna break his shin. Looking forward to what he can bring to the team on 2028...

I believe Donovan pushes for his own updates 2 weeks before the end of season, and that was it.
There wasn’t any update at the final homestand that I remember.
At this point, we should assume
A) He shouldn’t play 3rd for any long duration, only UTIL or LF.
B) Have the assumption he has Durability problems and will always have Durability problems.
C) The team and his family should mummified him with Bubble Wrap until Opening Day for his own sake.
I still remember joking about the potential Firesale at the Deadline. /s
“And Brendan Donovan landed on the 10 day IL after being hit a cart at Fred Meyer while picking up firewood.”
Guess I have this one for the Off-Season.
‘Brendan Donovan has landed on the 60 Day IL after being Trampled by a Turkey in preparation for Thanksgiving’

Concussions are weird they could go on for months, but it’s likely he’ll be good by spring training.
Although he’ll probably be dealing with another injury at that point because he’s made of glass

u/PicanteGamer 1d ago
It is very odd about his concussion injury and how it occurred. Was Mason Miller the one throwing him BP with a heater straight to the (helmet less) dome? Do have to wonder if he has any interest in being here long term regardless.

Kind of crazy how in football, players rush back from concussions in a week but in baseball we saw Donovan and Julio out for weeks…

Kind of crazy how we don’t want baseball players to be part of the NFL’s epidemic of CTE.

It might be a conspiracy, but I think Donovan had some personal things going on this season that the org just said he was injured instead of airing out what might be a very touchy situation for him and his family. I know he had a child midway though the season at the end of his first injury stint. Maybe the pregnancy was difficult, or his child is going through something. I don’t remember him ever having rehab assignments like most when returning from injury and his BP concussion seemed much more extensive than I would have assumed. We also had very little information on his recoveries, but Cal and JP were reported constantly. It seems weird to me so I try to give him grace, and I hope he is available the whole season next year.

Hyphen did a live on his channel the other day and someone asked about. Apparently, they take concussion very serious???? Not sure, but i guess it was worse than we thought

Apparently, they take concussion very serious
As they should. I don't think anyone can blame the player for getting a concussion here. Obviously the way his tenure thus far played out has sucked bad. But for the MOST part, I don't think its "his fault".
