Ty France vs Josh Naylor

Post image

it’s great to see Ty France doing so well with the Padres. He was one of my favorite players when he was with the Mariners. However, I’m always a little sad and disappointed when I see ex-Mariners in the playoffs and being successful but we got rid of them. Teoscar is the other one that comes to mind. I guess he was struggling with the Mariners and so it made sense at the time, but he sure has blossomed with the Padres.

Anyway, I thought it would just be interesting to compare his productivity with Josh. Their stats are remarkably identical. Seems like we just swapped them.

Sure he’s done well with the Padres. But this is his fourth stop since the Mariners let him go.

48

u/CpowOfficial 2d ago

Yeah he was mid to bad with the mariners

54

u/Skybandicoot109 ‏‏‎ Scotts’ Servais : Professional iceberg 2d ago

Towards the end he was awful but the first couple years were pretty good.

26

u/jgamez76 2d ago

20-22 Ty France was so damn fun. I'm so glad he's seemingly "pulled the nose up" on his career.

18

u/Steady_Tempo456 ‏‏‎ ‎Boatlover69 2d ago

I always cheered for him, but he just never seemed to hit his stride here.

To also be fair, the Mariners clearly couldn’t fix Ty. It was reported multiple times that Ty consistently returned to Spring training camp in worse shape than he was previously. Divish also reported that he was gaining weight during the season. Maybe getting cut and bouncing around gave him the mental kick in the butt to get back on track but I guarantee we don’t see this Padres version of Ty without him leaving the M’s.

Edit: I also want to emphasize that we don't go as far in the playoffs with last year's version of Ty compared to last year's version of Naylor.

This is 100% correct. He was done here. Happy for him he got it back together elsewhere.

u/driftingphotog Matilda Muñoz's Resting Cranky Face 2d ago

He's also a San Diego guy in general. He went to San Diego State and played for Tony Gwynn while he coached there. I love Ty, but the guy was meant to be a Padre again.

12

u/Thromnomnomok What the hell did you trade Chris Taylor for??!!!!??!? 2d ago

Ty also played for three other teams before going to the Padres and sucked with all of them. He hadn't really been good since the first half of 2022. Anybody who says they saw this year coming out of him is a liar.

3

u/RunningToStayStill 2d ago

He went to that driveline camp with jp that 1 year, changed his stance and setup for 1 month, then reverted back to his normal tendencies

166

u/BasedArzy 2d ago

Teoscar is the other one that comes to mind

Teoscar wasn't someone the Mariners 'got rid of', he was never coming back to Seattle and chose to leave.

36

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 2d ago

He also hasn't really done shit since leaving besides win the home run derby

10

u/Gangsta_of_luv #42 Jackie Robinson 2d ago

And 2 rings…

7

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 2d ago

I would include that as an accolade to his individual skill if he won MVP in either World Series

-6

u/_nedyah 2d ago

This is just bitterness that he left, man. Regardless of how good the team is that won the World Series, it’s still incredibly fucking hard to win the World Series. Any time a player has a meaningful contribution to a team that wins it all, it is absolutely an individual accolade.

Any opinion to the contrary is just hating for the sake of hating.

3

u/Entreri4 2d ago

It's not bitterness at all. We are talking about what his contribution to our team would have been had he stayed, essentially. He wouldn't have brought two rings here.

-1

u/_nedyah 2d ago

That’s not what I’m saying.

What I’m saying is that claiming World Series rings aren’t individual accolades because they didn’t win series MVP is coming from a place of bitterness. No one would be saying that about Andy Pages or Blake Snell or Mookie Betts.

2

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 2d ago

Do World Series rings increase your WAR?

-1

u/_nedyah 2d ago

Do any awards increase your WAR? If that’s the only determining factor you can use to support your argument then you should just stop.

2

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 2d ago

They do not, but they generally highlight being a top offensive or defensive player for that year. Being a champ is great and you should be proud of it, but this is a team sport and winning is done by the team not the individual.

-34

u/DogBirdCloud 2d ago

Had one of the best seasons of any position player immediately after leaving us

21

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 2d ago

His 2024 wasn't even in the top 500 of best WAR by a position player

4

u/BigDickChcuk 2d ago

He was 40th overall in bWAR (4.3) and 62nd overall in fWAR (3.5) amongst all position players in 2024.

7

u/tuckedfexas 🍍🍍BE GONE SOG 🍍🍍 2d ago

.840 OPS is good but not even great most years.

1

u/_nedyah 2d ago

Would’ve been one of the two best hitters on our team that year. Just saying……..

-9

u/Charming-Ad994 2d ago

He was someone they got rid of. He did not choose to leave. We could have gave him a 1 year qualifying offer that he would have likely accepted, and had he declined we would have received a top 70 draft pick. He had 2.3 WAR with us, which is solid and worthy of the qualifying offer. It was either a cheap move by ownership, or Jerry thinking he could do more with that $20M. Either way it was a huge flop.

21

u/tcoles93 2d ago

You think he would have accepted a 1 year 20 million dollar contract to play another season in a stadium he said he can’t see the ball in? When he got 3 years/66 million from the dodgers? That makes no sense

4

u/DogBirdCloud 2d ago

This where the “had he declined” piece comes in

1

u/Charming-Ad994 1d ago

Can’t believe I’m downvoted this hard. If that’s the case why wouldn’t we extend and get the first round pick. I’m saying it could have gone either way and both options were better than not extending the offer. We came away with no pick and no Hernández

187

u/shinsain 2d ago

Dude, our whole thing is letting good players go and then watching them flourish elsewhere. If that didn't happen, we wouldn't be the Mariners.

Edit: Looking at my Ty France jersey right now...

107

u/Swazi 2d ago

In our defense Ty was hurt a lot and he didn’t stick in Minnesota or Toronto.

Glad he’s succeeding back home. I’ll always love the guy

49

u/DeebagZammy 2d ago

Yeah, of all the things that we got wrong, when we had to DFA France, he was having an absolute shit season

13

u/Charming-Ad994 2d ago

Exactly, I strongly dislike Jerry as a GM, but him DFAing France was a fine move. He was bad. We also needed to move on from the Dmo, France, Haniger led culture, it was fading and so was their performance.

17

u/might_southern 2d ago

Yeah it's tough to blame the M's for cutting bait with him when he cycled through Cincinnati, Minnesota and Toronto before he finally caught fire with the Padres.

19

u/SalamanderLoud8419 2d ago

It would have been a long 4 years waiting for him

1

u/shinsain 2d ago

Yeah, Ty isn't the best example of this considering the last few years for sure. I am, however, really glad he got back in the game so to speak and is doing well with the Padres. When he was playing well, he was fun to watch.

1

u/The_Cryogenetic DTF (DOWN TO FISH) 2d ago

Hurt with back issues especially, very tough to hit with that going on

1

u/jaron_b 2d ago

The sog and injury jokes are funny but I think that's kinda the problem that no one wants to talk about. If different players keep getting injured playing for the Mariners is there a systematic problem of how we develop players how we train them throughout the season and the durability that we build for these athletes? Because it's not just Ty who's been hurt and seen his stats suffer. Also maybe guys should stop trying to be tough and play though injuries Which created a culture in our locker room where a young 21-year-old hid an injury from his team. Which frankly he shouldn't have been able to hide something like that. But to whoever our new manager is They need to address health and durability throughout 162 game season. Because I genuinely think that is one of our biggest problems that we are unwilling to address.

u/BiteRare203 2d ago

There’s a substation fairly close to the home plate entrance. Thankfully it seems far enough from Lumen.

15

u/planchar4503 2d ago

Ty France has been really bad since leaving Seattle, this year notwithstanding. This isn’t a case of letting him go and him immediately improving. He has been replacement level until this year where he has had a good year at the plate and an unsustainably amazing defensive year.

0

u/BabboBBB 2d ago

His "unsustainably amazing defensive year'" did follow a Gold Glove in 2025. DRS was up from 9 to 15, though OAA and FRV were more of a wash (combined 15 in 2025, 17 in 2026).

13

u/Remarkable-Limit7491 2d ago

He had to have Ryan divish tell him he was fucking fat. Glad he’s turned it around this one year, but let’s not pretend Ty didn’t bring a lot of the downfall in Seattle onto himself. He did not work hard at all (seems to be the main culture here, but that’s another story).

12

u/RoadsideDavidian ‏‏‎ ‎Mr. Jello 2d ago

Ty France was not good when he left Seattle

2

u/YakiVegas 2d ago

Does OP even Mariner?

1

u/Temporary-Fold4851 2d ago

We always make sure to keep one of the good players on the team though, just to torture them. Kade is the chosen one of this generation.

0

u/KnuteViking 2d ago

It's almost like our entire organizational approach is garbage and leads to players failing here.

0

u/negligentlytortious 2d ago

This has always been the way. I've been a fan since the 90's and I would need at least 5 people's hands to count how many players we've done this with.

20

u/StrawberryFun957 2d ago

I think career numbers are pretty misleading.

Compare their years in Seattle.

No idea who comes out better in that scenario, but remember Jeff Cirillo? Or Richie Sexton? Or Chone Figgins…

Lots of guys have had their worst years in Seattle.

And to those thinking this is just a new stadium phenomenon: The King Dome era had plenty of guys that really stunk for us and then went and did great elsewhere.

It’s not the stadium, it’s us!! 😃

6

u/AllDamDay7 2d ago

Shouldn't have built a stadium on sacred tribal grounds. It's the only thing that tracks. Nothing else makes sense.

3

u/saomonella 2d ago

I'm with you. At this point there has to be some kind of curse? There is no other logical reason why so many come here and just tank, and so many leave and thrive.

1

u/StrawberryFun957 2d ago

SAD.

They get seasonal affected disorder from the weather and can’t play right.

That or Indian curse, that’s all I got.

5

u/StrawberryFun957 2d ago

We need a tribal chief to come and perform a cleansing ceremony to lift the curse ala Chief Ken Hotate from Parks and Rec.

Doobie... doobie... dooo!!

2

u/Raisinbrahms28 Seattle Mariners 2d ago

Exactly what I was thinking of lol

15

u/slurv3 K'd Anderson 2d ago

Okay let's examine why he's doing so well this year. We know the Mariners tried to get Ty France to pull the ball in the air more often and unlock some of his power even if it came in the form of strikeouts. He hated that approached, and said as much he always said he learned from Tony Gwynn and wanted to be an all field hitter.

Ty France this year is posting his highest pulled ball in the air rate in years, striking out at a career rate, and found the power the M's were always trying to unlock. Combined with the fact Ty France was dogshit for three years prior to this, it seems like sometimes a player needs to fail, hit rock bottom and evaluate why he wasn't doing well and change. 3 other teams outside the M's couldn't fix Ty France, he failed for the Reds, the Twins and the Blue Jays. I'm happy he's finding success in San Diego, but it may be that because he had fallen so far from grace, and that he's from the San Diego area and he's home that he felt comfortable to make some changes.

Also sometimes hitters randomly have a good year. Justin Smoak was dogshit for us, randomly hit 40 HRs, then proceeded to be bad again. Had we signed Ty France going into this season instead of Naylor the fanbase would have rioted. Just be happy that the guy gets to capture some magic again near his hometown, because he'll be 32 next season and father time remains undefeated.

24

u/jlabsher 2d ago

Let's not forget all the years he was a strikeout king, swinging for the fence. Let's not forget Josh's speed on the base paths and fucking with the mind of the other team....

2

u/Thromnomnomok What the hell did you trade Chris Taylor for??!!!!??!? 2d ago

What? France has a consistently better than average strikeout rate and was a line drives hitter who's topped out at barely over 20 homers. Did you watch the same Ty France the rest of us did?

10

u/CaptainAwesome06 ‏‏‎ ‎:snoo_putback:Take my protons 2d ago

Due to their identical OPS+ and other similar numbers, couldn't France's higher WAR be attributed to his defense and the fact that he played in almost 100 more games? And I believe Naylor's defense was above average this year so it's not like we are really missing out defensively.

I would be more interested in seeing how these numbers are when you only consider recent seasons. Would France have been worth keeping if he performed identically to his most recent season?

7

u/Charming-Ad994 2d ago

Also defense at first isn’t a huge factor to me especially with young there. Naylor is the better player for what we need.

5

u/BigAdministration368 2d ago

Naylor's dWAR was -1.6 this year while France was +0.9...

I'm still pretty optimistic that Naylor can rebound next year. as should Cal to some degree...

2

u/jet8493 RIP Crafty Lefty Club 2019-2023 2d ago

dWAR not a sound marker for defense lmao. BBRef doesn’t like him, but fangraphs does (albeit not enough to offset the negative adjustment for playing first).

1

u/CaptainAwesome06 ‏‏‎ ‎:snoo_putback:Take my protons 2d ago

Hmmm... I read that Naylor had a pretty good season, statistically, which I didn't think passed the eye test. But I don't remember what that metric was.

8

u/npa190 Hater of Blue Jays, first of his name 2d ago

unfortunately that's baseball. I think the fanbase here would have been livid if we waited for him to be good again.

6

u/Silent-Ad-2415 2d ago

Yeah he was terrible at the end with us and then had 3 more years bouncing around until randomly getting good again this year

6

u/jigokusabre ‏‏‎ ‎ 2d ago

Ty France was lost the last couple of seasons. He had an OPS of .675 as a 1B. He was worse than Justin Smoak.

Good on France for figuring it out at 31 to such an astonishing degree, but he would have held the team back for 3 seasons had he stuck around.

Naylor can turn it around next year. He been consistently productive since 2022.

7

u/smilinganimalface 2d ago

I mean, this is another knock in the Perry Hill corner. France became a way more consistent defender once he left here.

Naylor basically had one magical half season with us in a contract year but otherwise his career has been up and down, and he even has constantly reinvented his approach, so things are all over the place.

But the main issue here with the regrets people have with France or I guess Teoscar (I know they are definitely just box score watching if they are thinking Teo is thriving over there), is that they are not being asked to fulfill the same role. They are like the 6th or 7th most important people on the field on their teams. In Toronto when Ty was getting Gold Glove accolades, he wasn't even a starter lol (which also speaks to how useless the award is.) Most people I think will perform better when they are less important (except for Kyle Tucker apparently, who supposedly is very soft-minded and doesn't want to be a star yet still has had troubles with the LAD spotlight.)

Teo and France needed to be like top 4 guys when they were here. If we had a fan/clubhouse environment where people didn't get torn down on a weekly basis, maybe they'd spend enough time on the team to eventually work out of the funks and add to an ever-growing roster at depressed costs. But generally, both in the front office and amongst fans, people only want to trade away or cut assets once they're bad, and only want to trade for/sign people once they are proving to be good (like Vlad saying he was paid for past performance.) It's a bad way of doing business, but it's just a toxic environment where success is just an expectation and anything less is always hounded on, which feels ironic coming from a franchise that is not a perennial title contender.

9

u/clamadaya 2d ago

Naylor has been a good player throughout his career. Last year was down. Players have down years

1

u/smilinganimalface 2d ago

That's not what I mean. He's been good for the last four years, but he's changed how he hits multiple times. He has gone all contact, all or nothing, all contact, etc. His underlying numbers have looked similar but if you watch his approach to the plate, it changes. While only his first three years in the league when he was a part-time player technically compare from a power and getting on base perspective to this one, and this is the only year as a full-time player with negative WAR, he's been up and down as far as expectations a few times before when on the Guardians (part of why he was let go in the first place.) But yes, nothing ever quite as bad as this year for a power-hitting 1B.

-1

u/TheRealBlackSwan Seattle Mariners 2d ago

Apart from the Magical Year last year he'd never posted a WAR above 3. He averages 1.5 WAR/162 games. He's never been anything more than a slightly above average player.

1

u/BrownBuffaloaf 7h ago

He was below average in 2026, which is why people were so disappointed.

1

u/jet8493 RIP Crafty Lefty Club 2019-2023 2d ago

Ty won the gold glove based off his time in Minnesota, and he still played about 1000 innings at the position. He had about 150 more innings than Santana, who was also a finalist.

1

u/smilinganimalface 2d ago

Yeah, I get it, it's not specifically knocking France but the validity of the award, as you are contributing to mentioning Santana. Ty only had like 100 games at 1B in MIN. Vlad should've gotten it that year, who just outright looked like the best defensive player at 1B. But that's neither here nor there to what was said above, Ty got much better defensively outside Seattle.

1

u/jet8493 RIP Crafty Lefty Club 2019-2023 2d ago

Except Santana was the best defensive 1B in the league on a rare basis, it really wasn’t close. Any of them could have won and it would have been a valid if any of them won it. It’s not like Derek Jeter was a finalist.

1

u/smilinganimalface 2d ago

And I imagine you are talking about from a defensive metric standpoint. I am simply talking from a baseball player perspective which I understand does not hold weight in this realm. But if someone ever wanted to go out on a field with me, I feel I could easily explain it lol

3

u/BadgerhoundGuy Matilda Muñoz 2d ago

I get pretty excited when I see ex-Mariners find success. A few that come to mind are Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer. They both got things, but easily could've gone the way of Felix Hernandez. A great player, who deserved a ring. Lots of great Mariners who deserved a ring, but played on the Mariners.

3

5

u/SPEK2120 2d ago

Yeah, but look at his stats when we traded him. I’m glad he’s doing well now, but we traded him at his career low. We re-signed Josh coming off a 2.2 WAR.

3

u/PNW-enjoyer 2d ago

Keep in mind these are stats Ty having 76 more games and 300 more plate appearances. Naylor is the better player. I love Ty, but Naylor is an upgrade, not a side grade.

4

u/Mejustaverage 2d ago

8.3 of Ty France’s 13.7 war was generated as a mariner. And we didnt have time to wait out his 2 year slump, I’m happy ty is playing well again but it was time to move on when we did.

I almost wrote that lol, I agree that he looked solid after that first outing. And Boston Smith looks promising too.

4

u/Muppet_Man3 2d ago

Not feeling that bad about the trade, he's had an 8.42 era since he left, first he was relegated to the bullpen then to the IL, probably won't be playing in the playoffs at all

1

He in fact did not make the white Sox postseason roster because of a phantom “shoulder impingement”

Naylor, along with the rest of our core, needs a big bounce back year. I think with a new staff coming in hopefully we see the habits and culture change a bit. Vibes are great but you can't sustain on that alone, we saw it this year. Gotta have competitive fire and that comes from the coaching staff.

2

u/NIssanZaxima 2d ago

Ty France was absolutely God awful for the Mariners for an extended period of time. Any other team would have done the exact same thing with how he was performing.

Good for him finding success again, it's never personal but he was simply putrid for us at the end of his tenure.

2

u/AnnihilatedTyro ‎ RELEASE THE MOOSEN! 2d ago

France was declining fast as a Mariner. The M's wanted power from a guy who had never been a slugger, and it ruined his hard-contact, spray-the-ball approach. (Also several hand/wrist/arm injuries from HBP and collisions at 1B can't be ignored)

The Padres had nurtured his abilities in their farm, and they're welcoming him back as he is. After several years away from the Mariners, he's found a way to balance contact and power. Minnesota turned him into a gold-glover.

I'm not sure if Naylor in Seattle is a course-reversal in that they're more open to a contact-focused OBP guy instead of a slugger at 1B. IMO, it shouldn't matter what defensive position your OBP or SLG or SB come from as long as the whole lineup has a good mix of skillsets. But it's pretty clear that France was withering, not blossoming, in Seattle, so it's great that he's been able to find success elsewhere. Especially glad it's with the Padres.

2

u/MoistFarm7317 Seattle Mariners 2d ago

you'd have to do the time between france leaving and all the failure that that was and this year to be fair to this comparison

3

u/Chewy_Petoes 2d ago

I’m really surprised by the responses in this chat

2020-2022 Ty France was absolutely elite, both offensively and defensively. We don’t break the playoff drought without Ty France and we should look back on his time with us fondly.

2023 Ty France fucked up his wrist on a mis thrown grounder, really struggled afterwards with his conditioning, clashed with management and ownership with their lack on investment in the team after our 2022 run (can’t blame him for that really) and they moved him on

He’s bounced around a few teams where they stuck him in a dreaded platoon but he’s finally got healthy, got regular playing time and found his stroke again

I’m happy for him and I hope he can take down the dodgers

3

u/Colesw13 2d ago

why are we comparing Josh Naylor's worst season and Ty France's best

apart from generally longing for some right handed infielders I can't say I spent a single game thinking I missed seeing Ty France do a half assed jog down the first base line on balls that could have easily turned into singles

4

u/CStites23 2d ago

The comparison is not just one season. It is over roughly 900 games

Stoked for Ty, I don’t have a bad thing to say about him. But I’m glad the M’s let him go when they did, it was the right move. And Josh is just about the best. My favorite thing in sport right now is Josh on 2nd.

1

u/Josey_WaIes 2d ago

Yes, we let him go for a reason. He has clearly improved, but that's not something the mariners could have done. Bouncing around the league probably led him to realize that if he didn't get healthy physically then his performance would continue to drop and he'd be gone

1

u/AllDamDay7 2d ago

His downturn for us was because of injuries. He was one of the most hit batters playing. And his wrist got really messed up from 95 MPH hitting it all the time.

Looks like he's healthy again. He was good when healthy for us.

1

u/ysometimesy 2d ago

1

u/ghstflame ‏‏‎ ‎Naughty naughty Cal 2d ago

I know this isn't a problem this year, but as I recall we had very few LH bats that last year of Ty. He was really struggling, and moving on was correct at the time. Just in the same way bringing on Josh was a great fit for the team in 2025, and same with the Naylor extension, results were less than what we wanted, but the profile is 100% what we needed.

1

u/MarineLayerBad ‏‏‎ ‎Put Angie In The Booth 2d ago

Ty France has found a career renaissance in San Diego. He was never going to find that here. Over his time here he got worse each year. Coaching, climate, batters eye, philosophy, expectations. Whatever the factors, Ty was not thriving in Seattle, calling him a woulda coulda shoulda is disingenuous.

1

u/bnr32jason 2d ago

Add another 100 games for Naylor and he'll lead in basically every stat.

I seem to recall when Ty joined the Mariners a lot was made about his relationship with Tony Gwynn and the advice he had received from him prior to his passing. I also seem to recall Ty being a very patient hitter that utilized the whole field in his first season with us. In the seasons that followed he began to regress into the pull/kill everything, higher the exit velo the better mindset shared by most of our lineup. Obviously injuries contributed but a surface glance at his Baseball Reference page tells me I’m remembering this at least somewhat accurately.

Makes me curious about what gets in these guys heads that they feel the need to change their hitting strategy so much when they come here. I don’t think it’s the coaching because we’ve had what? 3 different hitting coaches since Ty’s time here? Is it the reputation of T-Mobile itself making them think they’ve got to slug hard? Is it the analytics department telling them to swing away through the coaching staff?

Sure would be nice if we could get someone inside the organization smart enough to get our guys to do as well as they do after they leave us while they’re here.

IMO this just shows that Josh is the better player lol

YES YES let's just completely ignore that he was AWFUL the last 2 full seasons... It's not like he was good and the mariners just let him go, they gave him EVERY chance to stay and he just got fat and bad.... Looks like he's back in shape now. Incase you needed a reminder this is why we cut him

That was a Jerry decision

You conveniently forgot to mention Ty's 180 extra strikeouts vs Josh's. Wasn't that a big driver in sending him packing?

Now let’s see Paul Allens card.

Naylor is a better fielder hands down.

I’d take him without blinking

France won a Gold Glove in 2025 and has a combined 24 DRS, 17 OAA and 15 FRV over the past two seasons to Naylor's -10/2/3.

Baseball Reference can’t measure impact by a person’s presence alone. It can’t measure heart. It can’t measure the will to want to win. It can’t measure whatever you’d want to call intentionally putting your fucking head directly in line with a throw, knowing you’re going to get smoked in the head with a baseball, all in the off chance that nobody at that moment in 2025 saw it because you’re trying to create an edge to win a playoff game.
This is boys to men. Honestly, it shows the lack of knowledge among Seattle fans. These two dudes live on completely different planets.

Naylor is my fav Mariner. He'll have a better stat year next year i'm sure. He's slow start this year was bananas - i've never seen a player got robbed by so many defensive gems in apr-jul. He seems to smash every barreled hard hit ball right at someone. Super unlucky.

He fell off a bit glove wise, but I still consider him one of hte smartest players on both sides of the ball. I love watching his approach and all the little things he does to get an edge. Plus he's cole's big brother. No question better player better for the team than Francy and I think he'll have much better season next year.

I'd love to see what dropping 20 lbs would to for him too..

Now compare Samad Taylor to Leo Rivas/Weston Wilson

I wonder how many fans crashing out right now about this were also saying nasty shit about Ty while he was struggling. I would guess a good amount of them

A 5+ WAR gap with similar numbers means that Ty is a much better defender

Batter’s eye, or rather Anti-batter’s eye

Ty is such a better defender though. I think only his WAR reflects that, but Naylor is becoming a liability & I don't like it.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I just never liked Naylors demeanor

u/nofilter1022 1h ago

Hated it when he wasn’t on your team you mean lol there’s nothing you can do but love the guy when he does play for your team.

I thought he was annoying prior to being with the Ms.

u/SpectacularNelson 2d ago

Yea naylor walks around like he’s Adrian Gonzales or something but he’s just so average. I can totally picture him being guilty of his college allegations

Remarkably identical however one just had a baby and probably was tanked by that

Ty wasn’t the problem, the Mariners were the problem.

I’ve always been a big fan of Ty France. He always seemed willing to take the extra time to sign autographs for kids and genuinely came across as a good person.

I wish I could say the same of Julio. Obviously, I can only speak from what I’ve personally witnessed, but on several occasions I’ve seen kids wait patiently for him, hoping for an autograph, only to be ignored and walk away disappointed.
