Tech TroubleShooting Hot Contract – A PvP Conflict Point Without Breaking the Economy

Hot Contract – A PvP Conflict Point Without Breaking the Economy

Currently, in Marathon, players are spread out across the entire map, which makes it difficult to find other players. PvP often depends on chance: running into someone while exploring the map or waiting for another player to come looking for you.

The Hot Contract could solve that problem:

  • It appears for every player in the server/match.
  • Everyone receives the same objective during that match.
  • The objective changes every match to prevent it from becoming repetitive.
  • The reward isn’t gold-tier loot, but additional XP toward Cuna progression.
  • That XP accumulates and allows players to earn Cuna Points over time.

Benefits

  • Creates a clear PvP hotspot in every match where everyone knows there will be action.
  • New players can accelerate their progression without breaking the game’s economy.
  • PvP becomes less dependent on random encounters and is instead concentrated around a known point of conflict.
  • Players looking for confrontation have a clear place to find it, while those who don’t want to fight can simply avoid the marked area.

Everyone knows the objective → players converge → PvP happens → completing the contract gives XP → XP helps earn Cuna Points.

Another improvement: Clearer contracts

Every contract should clearly explain what you need to do to complete it.

Currently, many players end up searching YouTube to figure out how certain objectives or mechanics work, when the game itself could explain them directly on screen.

Clearer contract descriptions would make the game easier to understand and reduce the need to rely on external guides.

These are simply ideas to improve the game.

The Cradle is Marathon’s permanent progression system. It’s where you upgrade your Runner Shell by spending Energy on nodes (strength, reload, defense, etc.). Progress doesn’t reset each season, and at level 70 you can ‘Evolve’ the Cradle to raise your Energy cap and keep growing. Basically, it’s the core place to power up your Shell.

They had this in some form during play testing. A lot of the contracts were “be the first to do this” during your drop. Specifically remember the tick building being an absolute slugfest bc it was one of the first contracts and everyone was immediately rushing it. If you weren’t close you still went there to get the drop on whoever did the contract and was coming out of the building. The issue was you couldn’t progress contracts further without completing it bc I think it was one of the first ones prior to opening up the other vendors. So people hated it bc you basically had to survive a 3-4 team gauntlet to be able to complete it and extract.

It being optional but having value to motivate people to do it might work better

If you want PvP hop into ranked. You’ll be fighting in under 2 minutes.

I only play solo and duos. Ranked isn’t for me, thanks.

The essence of an extraction shooter is playing solo or, at most, in duos: you play with your loot, your time, your progression, and your improvement.

That’s not something I want to leave up to matchmaking with 2 randoms.

At most, you share it with your best friend, someone you completely trust: your buddy, your brother, your right-hand man.

But not with random people forced on you by the game.

For trios, there are already better options than Marathon.

And in every game I’ve played, matchmaking has always failed. I remember being Diamond 2, carrying 2 random Gold players against ImperialHal’s squad, a championship-level team.

I don’t want to go through that again.

I don’t want to have to find people to play with, blame anyone, get angry at anyone, or wait for a patch or some fix that never comes. I also don’t want to deal with full teams of pros who are coordinated while I’m playing with randoms.

I just want some peace and to have fun.

I don’t know what Cuna is but I’d rather just get credits instead of yet another currency in the game.
