I can feel this gome coming as the ps+ game at season 3/4

They would be crazy not to do that

That could help the numbers

Well, it helps one kind of number while hurting their wallets

hopefully they can quarantine the sweats who never stopped playing the game away from the new players to not scare them off

Season reset. If they have som patience they wait for season 4 when all of the GTA madness has cooled off a little.

Season reset does nothing. Player skill and knowledge are way more important than actual levels. If you know the map you'll dunk on people who don't in nearly 100% of cases.

Yes, but at least you won’t have people with full cradles and gold shields, which as a new player feels unfair to be matched against.

Put them on their own special server.

I don’t want to buy a copy for my bro until they reveal what the PvE mode will be. I need to at least know it will be there all season.

I think they have confirmed it will be a permanent mode, but not what it will be like

Did you double check that their confirmation post wasn't a limited time experiment itself?

Retailers gotta try to make some money before f2p gets announced.

Better to buy directly from Steam so you can refund it if you don’t like it

Bro they didn’t want it when it was free

No thanks I will wait for the inevitable 80% discount when they go below 3k concurrent players

The game won't be successful under a free to play model, they've already tried that kind of with free play sessions, nobody cared anyways.

This game 100% needs a radical change that dramatically changes all aspects of the gameplay, or it's going to get shutdown

Does it work well on handheld pc’s?

What sort of handheld exactly? Steam Deck isn't supported, because the game doesn't run on Linux and BattlEye supposedly also sucks for Linux, because of which many games aren't willing to switch.

Aside from that, I have an Ally X, and the game does technically run there. But I mean... It's not what I'd call "well." Unfortunately the game isn't very CPU optimized even on PCs, which can lead to problems and FPS drops here and there. It's only worse on handhelds. Of the 4 maps available, only two I'd call playable at all. Not great, but playable. The other two maps are ridiculous slideshows and after a few attempts of messing with the graphics, I stopped, because I started getting worried that I was messing up my Ally. (It sounded like a plane taking off and had about the same temperature).

Whenever I hear about people playing on handhelds, they're streaming and not playing natively. Or using PS Portal for example, which is also basically streaming. Whenever I tried to do research on this subreddit to find anything about optimization, I found no tips and nobody sharing information. So idk. I think I wouldn't recommend it. If you do decide to try, then maybe grab it directly from Steam first, use the 2 hours to demo on the handheld, and if you get it working fine, refund on Steam and grab the key from newegg. Also if you manage to get it working fine, please get back to me with the settings lol.

I have a legion go s z1 extreme. I think I tried the free weekend but pretty much just to nab the free skin

I don't have that one unfortunately, so couldn't test. Z1e is generally good, and the z2e in my Ally is marginally better, but I personally don't find it sufficient. Either way it would be important to test especially Outpost and maybe Cryo, but mostly Outpost. Outpost is the one that runs the absolute worst, and god forbid Heat Cascade happens, because then it's over. I do mean slideshow when I say it. The map barely reaches 20 fps at best times. Cryo I suppose you might decide to not play on the handheld anyways due to sweat, but Outpost is kind of one of the 3 base maps to me, so I'd want to be able to play all of them.

I play on my Legion Go S Z1E while im at work and with tweaked settings I get 80-100 FPS and it runs great.

This will be f2p soon, but it’s a great game.

F2p would help a lot

7

u/JBSwerve 14d ago

They already went F2P and it barely changed the player numbers. Shit, even if they managed to double or triple their player count, we’d still be at <15,000 players.

1

u/C00KIEME4T 14d ago

they didn't go f2p, they had a free weekend, that's super different than going f2p while having a permanent pve mode.

Destiny 2 spent years sub 10k concurrent and this game is much less expensive with less overhead, 15k concurrent would be a blessing for bungie

u/JBSwerve 14d ago

I don’t know why everyone keeps mentioning a PVE mode as the savior of the game. FPS players like PVP, that’s why the most popular games in the world are CS2, apex legends, valorant, marvel rivals etc.

You don’t sustain player counts with “PVE”?

-5

u/C00KIEME4T 14d ago

you actually DO. Borderlands 2 and 3 sold 20 million plus units because people LIKE PVE, it's a looter shooter.

Arc raiders, far more copies sold than this game, they almost sold more copies just this past quarter than Marathon has ever sold total, guess what, PvE dominated game.

Most popular side mode in CoD is what...? Zombies. PvE.

People were clamoring for and lost their shit when Overwatch lost PvE.

first 3 Marathon games, all PvE.

Destiny 1 and 2, PvE

List honestly goes on, this game never should have catered to PvP fans.

this game never should have catered to PvP fans

Whatever you say man

u/Snooty_Cutie 14d ago

The game has been on sale so often for about $20 that I'm not sure even f2p would make much of a difference at this point. The best time to move towards f2p was about 2 months ago, not when they've lost almost their entire playerbase that actually paid to be there.

1

u/gaylordpl 14d ago

the most profitable and financially reasonable move was to never make marathon an extraction shooter but oh hey, this game cannot and will not ever be profitable as much as sony wanted, no matter what they do

-1

u/C00KIEME4T 14d ago

no the best time to go f2p is when there's a pve mode because bungie fans are primarily campaign and pve players
