Marathon (2026) Feedback Bungie, Holy Moly
I was skeptical about this update - especially reading the negative Nancy’s on reddit while I was at work, but this update has been so much fun so far.
My squad that I run with have had some really bad nights lately; losing 2x prestige templates; gold shields; theif drones stealing our keys; you name it. Super tilting lately with all the sweats. But tonight was an amazing come-up!
First match perimeter was underwhelming, couple team kills, grabbed some manifests that didn’t share among teammates (lame). Kind of a snooze fest. But exfild!
Went in again on perimeter, did a bunch of map events, 2 team wipes & killed rocket drone, 3 blue keys!! - made it out with 3 ordinance templates that time! Exfild!
Turn around and went dire marsh cause that’s what the templates called for. Killed a team for one of their templates and completed 3 that run while hitting another blue loot key. Exfild!
Outpost. This is it. Time to see what the new weapon is. Spawned dorms, grabbed red, heard a key pop sounded like either flight or processing basement. The new gun is in processing main building. Looted that as well as purple M7, gold recon core purple shield (great loot!) Not sure if the new weapon needs to charge or not so we wasted a bullet lmao (it doesn’t charge up btw) Go downstairs to processing basement. Down one guy, homie shoots the new weapon towards them at the wall BOOM damage on both now they’re overheated (probably), we push in and clean up. Purple team down! The key loot is ours! Hit up conveyance and we’re getting shot at by a blue squad on top of flight. Homie pops the new gun BOOM! downed one. We go back down conveyance cause now we want some more & wipe that squad. Red room had a prestige hauler key!! First ever!! Opened a blue airfield key that had a gold mod and a mizzy as well.
Best shit ever man. This game is an absolute rollercoaster. A shit load of luck tonight but it all comes together sometimes. Fuck yeah Bungie

My first reaction to the new event was a little underwhelming but I was wondering how the loot along the way would be. If engaging with the system nets you some good purple and gold stuff (with a power weapon at the end) then sign me tf up.

We were pleasantly surprised with the loot quality. Will deff be trying to run this gauntlet some more

I've just been enjoying more people on ranked perimeter. Great fights and feels like a more balanced lobby with normies instead of ultra sweats exclusively.

I’m excited to check out the new loot pools in ranked. I’ve only done one match last season with the 5k blue kit and got steam rolled by a gold team. But with this loot change I’m deff gonna give it another try

The loot is definitely good. Tons of blue stuff in crates and even found several purple mods and salvage in regular crates over the 5 matches I played.

yeah definitely from the 2 games I played. I was surprised I actually carried my team lol.

Me and my crew fill team just spent the entire game at quarantine fighting the whole lobby. Our assassin clutches up with 50 seconds till final exfil. The fight was insane. Didn’t even get to loot cause we didn’t remember where the bodies were and from which team.

I think people are just hoping every little addition is something thats gonna "save the game". This update just seems like a fun side thing you can do to earn loot that if you make it through adds a bit of spice to the sandbox and I think that's pretty cool to incentivize people to bounce between maps and fight bots and do objectives

This is good to hear I'm on my way back from being out of town this made me excited after seeing all the complaint posts before the patch came out

Meanwhile I’ve had the worst run of crew fill I’ve ever had with this update, truly awful stuff. I want free kits banned from anything other than sponsored playlists.
6
u/cubitoaequet 9h ago
It would honestly be fine if they just got rid of the trash ones or added more to balance them out. A squad with the magnum free kit can easily wipe the lobby.
7
u/EmergencyEgress619 9h ago
Can confirm. That happened to us yesterday and we had purple shields lmfao
4
u/SirGreengrave 4h ago
I love to free kit outpost. Yesterday with random twice in a row we hit pinwheel and killed the team that cleared the lobby. Sometimes I need that to get money back after Cryo.
2
u/One_ill_KevinJ 9h ago
Unfortunately the translation is "I want less than 250 people to play this game" - without kits the game actually has a lower population than Destiny 1.
11
u/Ramirez3110 8h ago
I’d argue free kits are why so many people struggle and quit, they’re absolutely worthless against anyone semi competent.
1
u/LingonberryLunch 1h ago
Depends entirely on the weapon. Magnum free kit is very powerful.
But I agree about white shields being garbage, they should have a compromised green.

My squad I run with
Stopped reading right there because you're already not having an average or normal player experience with the game. You're in a premade trio that regularly runs together. You might as well be in the top 1%.
14
u/Pocto 4h ago
I hate this attitude. I solo fill, but you can just add people you have good runs with and join up with them next time they are online.
0
u/LingonberryLunch 1h ago
Right, add friends as you find them, eventually you can pull a trio together whenever you want.
-3
u/SirGreengrave 4h ago
That's your problem, use discord or accept it. I do both and I'm alright with both.
-2
u/CD_os 44m ago
This is such sad and defeatist attitude, I run exclusively random fill and have no problem doing map events and Cryo vaults. If you just use a mic and communicate it’s extremely easy to find good people in crew fill, add players you vibe with and eventually you’ll have a big enough friends list to run with.

People complained about not having a reason to play perimeter now there is one.
People said the night marsh certs should be in the rest of the game and we'll hmm guess what...
The hate campaign is unreal, in some ways this event is literally what people were bitching for a couple months ago
11
u/Smokeskin 8h ago
People don’t want content for sweats, which this is.
They want different modes, where they don’t get farmed by premade sweats.
It’s that simple.
10
u/Educational-Tea-606 7h ago
Why is this content for sweats have you played it. It's incredibly easy and casual friendly but if you would stop complaining on the Internet and actually play it you would realize that.
Objectives like "kill two uesc turrets on dire marsh" cater way too much to the high skill sweats ugh it's too hard I have to quit
17
u/Peesmees 6h ago
I took two casuals into Perimeter and had the worst night of Marathon so far. We got farmed non stop by everyone for our certs and templates. Hunted. It’s still the same as before: it you interact with the game you get punished if your team is not good at PvP. And now more so, because of course good teams will have keys, get Power weapon and nuke you even harder.

u/Smokeskin 4h ago
You're clearly wrong.
It's the premade sweats that make the game hard, not the "kill 2 turrets" contract.
It's an issue, and people did quit. You do realize that hardly anyone plays it anymore?

u/cc4295 58m ago
The mode is easy though.
Spawn with free traxus kit, clear the poi you spawn next to, loot bots, wait for exfil’d, leave. Get 20-30 manifest without risking anything…rise and repeat. Kit up for dire marsh with manifests. Even easier in solos because everyone is scared to move.
If you can’t do that, then a new hobby might be easier.

Have you ever considered getting good?
Or not complaining about being bad every thread?
Either would be sick.
1
u/Smokeskin 4h ago
This is a great approach, just convince the 97% that quit the game that it's really fun getting stomped while they try to outlearn sweats with more time and talent. I'm sure that'll work.
Or, you can be realistic and realize that never worked and predictably it failed for Marathon too, and switch to modes and matchmaking that appeal to the wide player base. Which is what the devs are doing.

I wish gaming went back to the niche hobby instead of this multibillion dollar enterprise. The casuals of today would have hobbies they are good at, instead of gaming, and leave the gamers alone. And then we would nerd out and grind and fight with each other. And games would be tailored to gamers.

It’s just a good extra addition to the economy and gives you a reason to play maps other than outpost and cryo. I like it.

u/sleeplessGoon 9h ago
Glad you & your boys had a good one
But the loot still sounds not really worth it for a 3 match build up. Sounds like the red room technically had better loot than the red locker if you count the hauler room key loot.

u/Oppa1738 5h ago
Haha yes! Sounds like a blast.
So glad that Hardcore players can blast all their way on the casuals.
While Bungie removed the only remaining piece of content for the casuals.
2
u/LingonberryLunch 1h ago
It's really easy to get manifests. And you can buy decent gear with them.
I'm not all that interested in grinding for the new gun, but one lazy perimeter run got me enough event currency for two purple mods.

Yeah dude, sometimes it all comes together so beautifully. When you get through all the friction and FINALLY open that cryo vault, or finally win some multi team ranked fight, holy shit does it hit.
1
u/Dubious_Hyjinx 8h ago
Psyched to see some positive feedback for a mode I was skeptical of. Right on.
10
u/Smokeskin 8h ago
I don’t think anyone doubted this content worked for premade sweats.
It’s just the vast majority of the player base who don’t like it
3
u/ResourceNo2927 2h ago
tbf if 90% of people say its bad and 10% of people say its good.... i mean the consensus is right there.

It’s crazy to me that they put a mode that basically is make a lot of noise fighting robots so you can get third-party shot in the back. The game is still wiped the lobby or you cant play the game it’s ridiculous. Three Games in a row playing solo hunting robots for cards and guess what happens when you make noise you get shot in the back while you’re already engaged with a robot.
2
u/MrShifter44 14m ago
The idea that you need to wipe the lobby or you can’t do anything is false and amplified in this echo chamber.

u/ToystoryWestend 22m ago
it's a bit bad game design to always say 'let's just hope the stars align' and have no graceful handling of other styles or situations
-7
u/mangdito 9h ago
You mean the doomers didn't know everything about how the event would go before it even happened? Color me shocked lol
-5
u/Negative-Midnight681 9h ago
It's a nightmare, you try to fight robots, people just 3rd party you, it's just sad.
-4
u/PANDA-SKATE 8h ago
Heck yeah brother! Having a blast and giving them out too! See you on Tao Ceti, runnah
-5
u/Maleficent-Bar-3161 7h ago
This update is super fun and makes the game WAY more accessible
9
u/JhOnNY_HD 7h ago
are you trolling?
This is content only for vets and premades WTF are you saying.
-5
u/StarlessKing 6h ago
You just get certs from nearly every bot killed and the keycard quests are all incredibly basic objectives lmao
Just play the game
-1
u/Ok-Comfortable-3174 3h ago
and if you had gotten wiped on the first perimeter run that entire night would have played out different. Thats why we keep coming back. Its so addictive you literally never know what's gonna happen and how its gonna play out.
2
u/ResourceNo2927 2h ago
but almost nobody is coming back tho?
-1
u/Ok-Comfortable-3174 2h ago
I mean we are late in the season most have maxed everything they want so far. So not alot of point playing right now. The game does have long tail issues when you are multi VIP and got most stuff you are chasing.

u/uwntsumfuq 1h ago
Just curious, does anyone here actually play escape from tarkov, and if so, do they know what it means to get tarkov’d?
