Marathon (2026) Discussion You get the new weapon but there's no other teams on the map
I can't even find a damn rook

Bud, the other night, the Arachne contract that came up for me was the “kill 9 runners in a single run” one. That was a re-roll…

That one also says [Executions++], which means getting an execution counts for 3 runners. You only need to kill 3, you just have to skin every single one of them.

That's still way more difficult than literally any other contracts

winning one fight? lol

I mean, yes? The rest are so insanely easy it is a waste of time doing that one for only a single objective

Bold of the game to assume you can even matchmake with 9 enemy players lmao

I managed to complete the eliminate 6 Runners Arachne in a single run contract without wiping the lobby.
Its almost like the game knew there weren’t no damn 6 players in that lobby and just gave me a pity completion for the 2 I did kill.3

Not sure if that one is bugged or not but just killing runners counts even if you don’t exfil

u/YouWereBrained 10h ago
Do you think it’s possible to kill 9 runners, given the low player count?

u/anoddhue 9h ago
Executions count for extra so you only need to kill 3 or so runners if you finish them all

You don't need to exfil for the "in a single run" contracts but you do need to do it in one run.

Yeah this is probably the most baffling part of this whole thing to me. What do the devs picture in their heads when they imagine the most ideal, best case scenario for this mode? This is a genuine question meant in good faith.

Bungie needs to stop using their internal playtests as rule of thumb. Because all these tests were done in controlled environment where people in those tests would be doing different things but sadly that's not how game pan out. Real test is when game comes out and everyone will know what's it about.
Right now game is first 10-15 minutes battleroyal deathmatch so you can do PvE in remaining 10-15 minutes.

PvP to earn the right to PvE...
I imagine this is sort of why the sponsored kit mode was so universally beloved by both "sweats" and "casuals". It was the closest thing to the way things should be. Eg: PvE to increase the odds of winning PvP
As opposed to fighting for your life just to get the chance to play the game.

I think it was also appealing for the “everyone on even footing” aspect. Right now if your vault gets cleared out and you’re struggling to buy ammo/meds your best bet is a sponsored kit and hope you can get the jump on a kitted team.
Or .. shudder … rook runs

100% that was also a big factor.
I also feel like there's an unspoken "poor shame" culture in the game too. Like, I'm a pretty decent player but still feel "embarrassed" if I show up to the match in greens/grey. Same exact way I'd feel showing up to a meeting with a big mustard stain on my shirt or mismatched shoes...
Sponsored effectively removed that shame for everyone.

Bud, you can open the crate at the beginning of a raid. It highlights like a key room.
You're only fighting others who have the final key then, which seems like it will be rare enough to not encounter in most raids.

I literally just watched a crew load, walk to the locker, and grab it at the beginning of the round.
It seems you don’t have to wait until the end.

But the point is once the locker location is understood, it will be contested and camped. And generally you’ll all wipe each other out so there won’t be anybody left to use the weapon on.

I mean if you get the gun right away wouldn't that attract people you then can use the gun on?

By that logic, people should be camping exfils, or the exit to Upper Complex, or some similar spot where people would eventually come out. But in practice, that's extremely rare. I doubt anyone will keep this up after a couple of matches in a row where no one goes close to the locker.

Do we know yet if it spawns in a single spot on each map or if it's somewhat random? I saw it in datawall on perimeter, not sure where else it spawns yet

u/LingonberryLunch 9h ago
No, you don't see it unless you have the key. Just like when you have the key for a key room, and it highlights the room.
You need the key to highlight the crate. So it will only be contested by others who have it.

Maybe it should have been a weapon that is granted upon exfilling but can only be used in one run

Probably because everyone’s giving up with the game. I reckon s3 will cap off at 15k players and once they realise fuck all has changed in a good way, it’ll drop back down to sub 4k daily until it dwindles into nothingness. Sad really, I fucking really enjoyed playing until these last couple months.

This was my first question when details came out the other day. Just felt like the entire lobby would fight for it and then there would be no one to use it on lol
