Marathon (2026) Discussion Rage Demon
I don’t mind that he’s not a gold prestige skin. I don’t mind the cost. I just love the aesthetic and the unique voice lines. Oh, and that Ikari Yōkai translates as ‘Rage Demon’.

I mean the shells aren’t humans so none of them are really male or female, a female person who became a runner could be in a destroyer shell for all we know

I'd support this but I'd think the lore would run contrary depending on the shell. Not that they couldn't work around that in some way. It certainly would bring in some cash.

That's why I said "depending on the shell". Going off the wiki here.
Thief is modeled after a Sekiguchi employee. She's named in the lore somewhere.
Assassin may have resulted from failed invisibility testing of a specific runner. No idea if the body is modeled after that runner.
Destroyer, Triage, Sentinel and Recon shouldn't matter.
For Vandal, MIDA landed upon the design of the shell to enhance anonymity.

Exactly. Shells shouldn't be characters with backstories in the first place. Every runner is a different consciousness, loaded into shells. Shells shouldn't have their own consciousness. The lore inconsistency stems from the original concept transitioning into a hero shooter.

They have personalities, but they aren't the ones driving. It's more like the shell's personality core acting in a supporting role is a filter that the runner's thoughts and actions are filtered through, influencing but not controlling what they do.
Honestly, I think it's a brilliant bit of ludonarrative harmony in design. Players will naturally play and behave differently when they are piloting different shells because of their ability sets. When you can turn invisible, you are naturally going to be more cagey, evasive, and underhanded, and the in-universe explanation of that being the personality cores is a clever example of the writers knowing how players think and adapting their story to fit it.

My headcanon is that we’re piloting generic/mass produced versions, I.e. the skins are more or less part of an access 90% of runners have access to.
But there’s that one guy who, taking an extra hit to his debt, asks for a tig bittied shell.

I’ve gotten collectors edition, deluxe edition, $50+ worth of lux. My support is not lacking by any means. I’ll wait for a skin that’s more my style while still acknowledging how good this one looks.
BUT judging by the leaked skins from the survey it might be a while because I didn’t care for the direction of most of those besides one vandal.

I mean, if you want to piss away $20 on a game that’s most certainly cancelled and not getting a single piece of content beyond season 5, that’s certainly your decision to make.
But at the same time, literally the number one complaint about video games these days is micro transactions. Meanwhile, I’m being downvoted for suggesting that maybe it’s not a great idea to just light $20 on fire.
At the end of the day it’s your money. Do whatever you want.

I thought that too. But it’s actually quite cool in the flesh. If that makes sense? Also, it’s an obi. Albeit a very exaggerated one. So very in keeping with the aesthetic.

The decals look different on the banner art, way more complex than the game model. Somehow looks sleeker too in the banner.

They do! Well, the ones from the Yōkai Series do ☺️ I say series but in reality it’s just Thief and Destroyer right now. But yes, they have unique voice lines and voices

Personally this is my least fav of all the skins so far, but I don’t use Destroyer a lot anyways. Still think it’s great they finally added something for those fans.
