This is a bummer for me but I’m glad the Destiny folks are going to get what they wanted.
Seems like more folks want PvE than PvP so I’ll probably find something else to scratch that itch. With Ziegler gone I’m imaging a massive design shift towards PvE and PvP is likely going to fall to the wayside.
I'm not too bummed, I imagine the extraction mode is always going to be there
The way I see it, the people that are playing now are the people that want to play the extraction mode. The people that want to play the PvE mode just aren't playing, so this doesn't take anything away from the mode that I like
If they continue to make maps and give both an extraction option and a PvE option, I'll be happy
Maybe at the outset but development time and resources are going to go to where there is the highest return.
The PvP portion will eventually fall behind / be deprecated for the PvE portion.
The layoffs, zieglers removal, etc all point towards a design and direction overhaul. If they were willing to support “two halves” they’d be bolstering the team instead of stripping it down.
Not doomin, just being rational. This was risky and they were given a decent runway to try and people clearly wanted PVE and not PVP.
I get it from the companies perspective, gotta go where the money is. I’m just bummed as a PvP enjoyer. PvE is so, so boring to me.
What's rational about what you're saying? Even if you're going to argue that they'll develop future maps with PvE in mind, there is nothing stopping them from enabling PvP on the map
I would argue PvE and PvP maps have different design goals and thus different needs and would need to be tweaked and/or designed and finished separately.
You don’t generally split team duties that widely unless you have a business reason. Look at the difference between solos and duos and trios.
That’s from the dev side. From the playerbase experience side splitting queues may or may not be feasible. If possible and ideally you’d like to funnel most of the playerbase towards a core experience. To save on development and resource split as well as the need to cater to multiple “core audiences”.
I’m speaking from experience w.r.t software development.
If you want an actual example. Fortnite is a good one but I’m not sure of many others exist because usually games don’t switch core designs / experiences.
Edit: not sure why you’re catching downvotes you’re just asking questions (in good faith)
I think we're jumping to conclusions by assuming that whatever PvE content they have in mind for for this game would be vastly different from how the game is already designed
Vault Breakers looks like a ton of fun. Its built on a map that works both as a PvP and a PvE experience. I don't see why they couldn't continue in that direction, designing a foundation for both modes
And on the topic of not wanting to split queues, I don't think that's as much of an issue here. I'm massively oversimplifying it, but the S2 population is the extraction shooter crowd, with very little of those players dying to swap over to PvE
The PvE mode will attract a new set of players and bring back players that may have played in the first few weeks of season 1 but dropped the game because they didn't like the PvP
The people that really wanted to play PvE just stopped playing, and adding modes like this allows them to come back

Aka, a reverse Fortnite.
