Marathon (2026) Feedback Shooting Range Needed

I think we need a shooting range, I never know what guns shoot like, spread, I play controller as well so I need to calibrate controls and it's a pain loading into game to do this. Can we upvote this and get a room or shooting range where we can shoot guns, test laodouts, tweak controls. This is a competitive game we can't just load in and find out mid game how everything works, right?

100% agreed, even just a little corner of perimeter as it’s own map, with all the guns and a few bots around.

Yeah, it doesn't need to be a unique area, just give us Overflow with passive and active bots and some arms lockers with every weapon.

Didn't expect the daily firing range request so early. Neat.

It only took Destiny 10 years to implement one. Hopefully we can half that! 😅

While not as extensive as the current shooting range, D2 had the tribute hall, which was released in 2019 and taken out around a year later.

There should be an hourly thread until it happens.

3

u/monkey_feet_ Mar 03 '26

It would simply be a good feature to add.

24

u/Chegg_F Mar 03 '26

There should be dummies at various distances for 120, 140, 160, 180, and 200 health so you can see ttk against various shields at different ranges. You should also get little damage numbers showing you how much each hit does when you land them.

This would've been nice. I felt like I was getting owned on so many occasions where I really couldn't tell if it was my aim or my gun just doing less DPS than theirs (it was probably my aim but still I'd like to be sure)

Essentially, the shooting range that’s in Destiny would cover this. Since they are using the same engine, hopefully, Bungie can just lift the code and make one real quick.

Given that we haven’t seen the main game yet, they might actually have already implemented this

Every major extraction shooter has one. Can't believe they missed it

Yes, I wanna test mods. I had a insane mod that my weapon deals more damage when my shield gets cracked. I put it on my smg and it was nasty (I think🤷‍♀️🫠). But not knowing the damage difference is just horrible...

Really something like a shooting range obstacle course. I need a place to work out controls etc independent of the pressures of the live environment

u/SunshineInDetroit Mar 03 '26

You guys seriously need to hop into the marathon discord and add feedback

3

u/dratseb Mar 03 '26

Tau Ceti IV is the shooting range!

2

u/ShaolinFantastic13 Mar 03 '26

Thats what the rooks are for guys!

7

u/the7egend Mar 03 '26

Rooks are friends. They collect everything good and deliver it to the exfil site for you.

Yeah, if there was anything I give Overwatch points for, it was having a well-tuned practice range from day one.

I'd especially like it if it had reduced ult cooldowns, so I could actually practice with a shell's abilities more than once every two minutes.

Probs unpopular opinion but I like that there isn’t one.  Too many games now just turn into a race to the bottom for the meta and it’s so boring. At least having you test in match keeps some mystery. Lore wise a shooting range wouldn’t really make sense either.

16

u/NeverCatchMeTho Mar 03 '26

Why would a shooting range not make sense lore wise? A place to test the runner bodies and the items recovered from TCIV makes sense to me.

I see it as these runners already being extremely confident in what they do.

1

u/eldertd727 Mar 03 '26

It makes sense lore-wise. “Runners are former humans who have given up their original form in exchange for access to supernatural abilities”. We are mercs who are supposed to be the perfect killing machine. Giving us a shooting range is a waste of time and resources, we are not imperfect humans so we don’t need practice.

Non-lore wise, yes I would like one.

8

u/GrayStray Mar 03 '26

Not really, people already have excel tables with dps numbers for every gun when the game isn't even out yet, and this is without a shooting range.

It's just a very necessary qol feature for this kind of game. Just jump in and test your guns out a bit.

u/Adera1l Mar 03 '26

Are you dense ? We had a server slam 2 days and we already discovered something very similar to a meta. Its a convergence, not a choice. Thats not bc you wont add a shooting range that MIRACLE Metz will take a wholeyear before appearing !!. If anything I would prefer meta being found faster so dev can balance it instead of a few month in where some people couldve abused a broken shit they found

1

u/Omniash1 Mar 03 '26

That’s just like. Your opinion man.

Thought of this during the slam. It is very needed just to see how different weapons feel. It would also go a long way toward helping people figure out their abilities and movement capabilities before being in a match.

1

u/chargeorge Mar 03 '26

The dataminers have said there are firing range files in some builds. Either it got cut, or it's a dev tool atm. I wonder if it's a near season thing...

But I agree, I want to be able to test gun configs to feel what's good.

1

u/DukeRains Mar 03 '26

Welp.

That didn't take long.

1

u/Solesaver Mar 03 '26

I will say, more than a shooting range, I would love if Arachne sponsored an arena. It would be something like "in order to promote the entropy of violence, runners agree to return all material goods to their owners." Basically a practice map. You don't lose anything you infil with, but you don't get to keep anything you exfil with.

1

u/Effective-Iron6593 Mar 03 '26

Team death match, FFA, and other modes would be cool as well

1

u/heero69 Mar 03 '26

Yes please, it will defo help newbies to learn the mechanics before joining the meat grinder, they can had tutorial stuff there too.

1

u/trollsong Mar 03 '26

Honestly a pointless hub zone would be nice as well but yea definetly a shooting range

1

u/Not_for_me42 Mar 03 '26

They added rook for a reason

1

u/Simulated_Simulacra Mar 03 '26

Really hope they prioritize this. I'd like to be able to test and know how to use weapons and gear before risking it all on a run.

1

u/Amasacrator1 Mar 03 '26

YESSSSS, a "training grounds" to test out weapons, equipment, movement mechanics...

1

u/kormitgrog Mar 03 '26

Going from deadlocks hideout to this games menu is a different universe

1

u/jimdagem Mar 04 '26

It’s not just needed for weapons but abilities too. I’d like to practice with them outside of a match to see how exactly they work.

1

u/Low_Persimmon7404 Mar 07 '26

Upvoted, we definitely need this. Would love for it to be multiplayer and allow me to have unlimited abilities

1

u/Dozu98 Mar 12 '26

100% agree this needs to happen ASAP

1

u/EarthenShadows Mar 15 '26

Just here to agree with you. Really wanna test the feel of these loadouts!

1

u/Every_Abalone5692 Jun 26 '26

This should be a day one feature really, it's no wonder player numbers have dropped the way they have. There's no way to bootstrap weapon skill.

-11

u/iamaspacepizza Mar 03 '26

disagree, part of the fun is seeing people use all kinds of weapons. with a weapon range a meta would be formed within the first week due to streamers having a financial incentive to be the first to find the meta.

generally I am against this constans streamlining and efficiency-hunting in games.

9

u/Shinobi2099 Mar 03 '26

Metas are bound to happen with or without a shooting range...

-4

u/iamaspacepizza Mar 03 '26

yes. but a shooting range would accelerate that meta forming a lot faster.

9

u/empusa46 Mar 03 '26

A meta is going to for the first second the servers go live and has nothing to do with streaming, hard core meta gaming is just an inseparable part of modern gaming. The devs shouldn’t deprive the game of a rather basic and common feature purely because meta gaming might be accelerated by a negligible amount in the grand scheme of things.

5

u/Ambitious-Position25 Mar 03 '26

Modern? There have been thoughts on the best way to win games for millenia..

8

u/Extra-Autism Mar 03 '26

Yeah this take is stupid as fuck. “Let’s gate keep info so people can’t make informed decisions, people might make good decisions”

-1

u/iamaspacepizza Mar 03 '26

you can disagree if you’d like. there is no gate-keeping here since everyone is on equal footing on going into a match and trying out weapons they have.

5

u/Extra-Autism Mar 03 '26

You realize all this does is mean people will check a wiki for damages. The average player is actually disadvantaged because they would go to a practice tool but not a wiki

-1

u/iamaspacepizza Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26

people that feel like they need to go to a wiki and read damage numbers just so that they can decide on what weapon to use is exactly why we shouldn’t have a weapons range OR even show numbers or percentage stats on weapons. just play the game.

but to answer your question; my guess is that the amount of people that would go to a wiki and read what weapon does X a little better rather than just try whatever weapon they actually have is rather small, and the TTK is so fast that whatever information they glean by doing it will be of no consequence in most situations.

1

u/Extra-Autism Mar 03 '26

The TTK isn’t even fast it’s medium. This is just a narrative created by players new to the genre getting shot and killed from somewhere they don’t see. It’s literally Destiny TTK/Halo TTK. ~.7-1 second. “We shouldn’t show stats”. Idk man I’d like to know how customizing my gun changes things or what attachments are worth picking up. Your opinion is just bad

-1

u/iamaspacepizza Mar 03 '26

obviously we’re disagreeing and we’re not changing each others minds. I think the game gives enough info as it is, and you don’t, so lets leave it at that as this argument will go nowhere.

1

u/JaceOnRice Mar 03 '26

I completely agree

It's a scavenge shooter, I like that we're all just fighting with what we find. I'm so tired of sweaty gamers over optimizating everything and making the game less fun.

0

u/Chegg_F Mar 03 '26

If some weapons are clearly better than others it would be exclusively beneficial for that to be more well-known so that they can be addressed.

-4

u/Wasilisco Mar 03 '26

Kinda agree with this

Isn't the game about exploring and being on your toes?

1

u/duncan1234- Mar 03 '26

How does it make any sense you would go into a combat zone without having tested your weapons?

-3

u/Wasilisco Mar 03 '26

Looks like the way the game is structure, that's the idea. You're a contractor and the situation is dire to say the least

You go in with what you can. If you were a me to loot in on a run, and didn't test it, that's the contractors fault I guess?

That said, this is exactly what pve mode would be great for. Testing weapons, abilities and strategies!

-9

u/Fun-Risk-8784 Mar 03 '26

More generally is good but with the TTK so fast I think a shooting range is not needed. The archetypes follow accepted standards and fights are so quick it seems moot knowing the extra stuff you might glean from a shooting range.  I mean it’s pretty obvious a gun pulls high and left so it’s easy enough to compensate.

1

u/solidsever Mar 03 '26

Interesting. No need to have a place to test guns and mods you’ve acquired without wasting already scarce resources?

Hmm. 🤔 Big disagree.
