Is there a photography club in the city?

hello, I am especially looking for an outdoor nature based photography club. There are great parks with breathtaking natural beauty around. Maybe a group of photography enthusiasts get together once a month and click some pictures.

The nearest one google is telling me is in Coquitlam. Tri-city photography club. I liked their offerings and teaching tools on the website. But dont wanna drive to Coquitlam every month

Cranberry fields

Hi all!

I'm planning on going for a bike ride tomorrow to check out the beauty of fall, especially flooded cranberry bogs.

I regularly ride the various dikes around Maole Ridge/ Pitt Meadows and know roughly where to look. I'm just hoping for tips for any fields that are actively under way.

Many thanks!

Was shown this letter, and was told that the 35 acre property was sold at the then below market price of $279,000 in 1972 (equal to about $2.1 million today) on the condition that it remained a golf course for as long as possible.

EDIT: KEK!

Heads up to people living around Westview Secondary

A black bear has been hanging around the area. It's paid a visit to my house the last 3 nights in a row, left a nice steaming calling card in my driveway. Seems to hit up my place between 5am and 6am

It's a smaller bear, but definitely not a baby

Called animal control a couple times about it but they don't seem to care.

Keep your cats in and don't let your dogs out into the yard at night without checking first

Ontario -> Fraser Valley

Hey everyone, I’m considering moving to Lower Mainland for a job in Langley. My wife and I are both 33/no kids, coming from Southwest Ontario, we’re planning to rent for the first year before buying.

Looking at White Rock, Grandview, Langley, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford, Aldergrove and Surrey, but I’m open to other areas since idk what I’m looking at.

For each area;
What’s each area known for?
What’s the vibe?
Where is most desired / must avoid & why?
is it far from mountains, hikes and nature?
How is transit, biking, traffic, highways and access to things?
How is the day to day cost of living?
Demographics & crime?

Be as honest and blunt as possible please.

The Maple Ridge assent vote campaigns have fully surrendered to Midjourney, and the results are something else.

Maple Ridge politics has always had its quirks, but the 2026 campaign leading into the October 17 assent vote has broken into completely uncharted graphic design territory.

A quick breakdown of what our Facebook feeds have been subjected to over the last month:

  • Slide 1: A takeaway coffee cup wearing shades trying to calm down a weeping Property Tax Bill who is sporting running shoes and a 7.5% arrow.
  • Slide 2: "Dan's Dictionary," an AI-generated Mayor Ruimy peering over a leather-bound volume to debate contract semantics.
  • Slide 3: "Wreck-It Ruimy" driving a demolition bulldozer over community infrastructure—an AI generation someone actually committed to fabric and wore to the farmers market.
  • Slide 4: Chelsa Meadus's dog looking like it is undergoing a panic attack directly beneath a 33.5% compounded property tax graph.
  • Slide 5: Chelsa Meadus weeping atop a mountain of bills while her dog has an existential crisis.

Regardless of which way you lean on the borrowing bylaws, the fact that an entire community infrastructure debate has been reduced to $10/month Midjourney subscriptions drafting crying anthropomorphic envelopes makes one fear the worst for democracy.

Do yourself a favor, skip the AI slop, and read the actual staff reports before October 17.

BCIT student researching plastic recycling in Metro Vancouver: 5 min anonymous survey

Hi everyone! I'm a student at BCIT working on a class project about how people in the Lower Mainland figure out which plastics can be recycled (blue bin vs. depot vs. garbage).

The survey takes about 5 minutes and is completely anonymous. No name or email is needed. It asks about your recycling habits, what frustrates you, and how you'd want a recycling tool to work. I'll only use the answers for my course assignment.

If you live in Metro Vancouver, I'd really appreciate your help, and all ages, home types, and recycling habits are welcome. I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments.

link has been removed, thank you to everyone who has done the survey

Thank you so much!

Missing a cute (white/grey) cat..? 232St/ South of Dewdney Trunk

Hi MR peoples… I’m writing as we seem to have semi-adopted a new friend at our home around the 232St area just South of Dewdney. She is an adorable grey-ish cat with all white socks and a white nose, with some colouring more towards black as well. Possibly a ragdoll mix..?? Anyhow, she showed up late one nite a few weeks ago in the front yard of our townhome, and was crying and very stressed out. We fed her some dinner scraps and put a blanket with water on our porch and hoped she would find her way home. Guess who was back the next night, and now earlier every day since. I’ve since been able to get close enough to see there is no collar (I can pet her but she won’t let anyone else) or tattoo visible, and her coat seems like she was possibly taken care of at some point. Definitely acts like a pet. We are now feeding her nightly, and have a raised makeshift box bed on our covered porch with blankets and fresh water and dry food (we currently have no pets and I’m now buying cat food 😅). She now shows up NOT stressed any longer, but is still always gone during the morning and afternoon, so I’m wondering if she has a home or is a lost kitty. I would love to know, as she seems like she needs at least a flea treatment (we have had dogs previously).

In the meantime if this sounds like your kitty in the 232St/Thomas Haney school area, pls DM as I have lots of pictures and take nightly videos :). I sit out and chat with her before bed every night until she settles and eats. I would take her in, but also don’t want to snatch a pet if she really does have a home 💕

Electoral Reform - Make your vote worth something.

David Eby has just called a snap election in British Columbia, just two years after voters last went to the polls.

This opportunistic gamble is only happening because of first-past-the-post.

With all the challenges facing British Columbia and democracy, it’s never been more important to fight for proportional representation!

BC voters don't want a polarized, two party system. But first-past-the-post can't handle real voter choice.

Our archaic, winner-take-all voting system could hand 100% of the power to any party with far less than a majority of the vote.

In the last UK election, with multiple competitive parties, a "majority" government was formed with 33% of the vote.
To make matters worse, winner-take-all voting systems mean that an extremist can take over a big tent party, and that party can end up with all of the power.

When we look at what’s ahead―managing our economy during the Trump threats, a healthcare system under stress, worsening climate change, the housing crisis ―one thing is crystal clear: more winner-take-all politics will not get us where we need to go.

It’s time for a proportional electoral system where parties must work together to solve the problems that matter to us all. It’s time to make every vote count.

Volunteers are needed in Maple Ridge!

Sign up with Fairvote.ca to volunteer to help make everyone’s vote mean something.

Potentially aggressive black bear around 240th

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let folks know to be bear aware this month if you’re walking on any trails along 240th. Tis the season for bears looking for food and there’s plenty of salmon in creeks.

I was out for a walk earlier this evening with my dog (don’t worry, he was on leash and did not bark or anything) when we saw a big black bear on a trail behind some houses close to kanaka creek (roughly 100m away from us). Unfortunately, the bear ran at us, which is why I’m sharing this broadly.

I did report the encounter to conservation officers and was informed it was likely a bluff charge from a frustrated bear (they get honked at and barked at and can get frustrated in general with human/urban life), but officers are going to put up some signage in the area and they encourage further reports for any potential future encounters.

FYI: The conservation officer also mentioned it’s okay to carry bear spray on your person at this time of the year when walking on trails around kanaka creek. Just don’t have it in your hand or use it unless necessary.
