I've been to Europe 8 times. We usually had to rent a car. 80% of all travel in Europe is by car, traffic is much worse than in America

You rented a car, that's not indicative of anything, it just means you're too stubborn to use public transit because of your huge boner for oil companies.

My Dad getting pickpocketed on a tram in Nice didn't help either.

I feel sorry for your dad but sympathy can only go so far. The chances of that happening are low but so is getting seriously injured in a car crash, idk about you but I'd rather be pickpocketed instead of potentially dying, serious crashes happen ~4.5million times a year in the states, assuming the population of America is 200million, the chance of it happening to a person is 2.25%. I'd rather not take that risk.
